Cox Pair Bound for Morny

GSWs Supremacy (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) and Nando Parrado (GB) (Kodiac {GB}), both trained by Clive Cox, will clash in the G1 Prix Morny at Deauville on Aug. 23, all being well. The former won the G2 Richmond S. at the Qatar Goodwood Festival on July 30 and claims two wins from three starts, while the latter broke his maiden at second asking in the G2 Coventry S. at Royal Ascot back in June. Cox is relishing the match up between two group-class colts.

“We’re very pleased with the way he’s come out of the race this week,” Cox said of his Richmond S. winner. “That was the first step and he will have an entry in the Prix Morny–we very much think that six furlongs will continue to be his trip. The G1 Middle Park S. at the end of the year is our plan at this stage and we couldn’t be more pleased with what he’s done.”

A minor injury scuppered plans for Nando Parrado to step forward in the G2 Prix Robert Papin, but the son of Kodiac is now in fine fettle 21 days out from the Morny.

Added Cox of Nando Parrado, “He worked yesterday and we were very pleased that he’s come through that work really well. I am very pleased that we’re talking about the race [the Prix Morny] for two really high-class 2-year-olds–a Coventry winner and a Richmond winner. At the moment they would both be intended runners, we’ll just have to see how it pans out. It’s just a huge thrill to be talking in the same breath about two horses of that calibre.

“Nando Parrado would definitely cope with more ease in the ground, if that was the case, but we can’t really be sure at this time of year. Supremacy will very much be in charge of his own well being in the mean time, having only run last week, but first impressions are very favourable.”

“I would say he [Nando Parrado] could have the potential to go a little further. He’s given me that impression–he’s a very strong, athletic colt. I think six furlongs is clearly agreeable after winning the Coventry as he did, but I think he has the scope and potential to go a little bit further as well.”

MISS CHESS (IRE) (Zoffany {Ire}) bids to build on her debut third at Yarmouth earlier this month on the same card that her G1 Prix de Diane-winning half-sister Fancy Blue (Ire) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) takes part in the G1 Nassau S. The Phoenix Ladies Syndicate’s €220,000 Arqana Deauville August Sale graduate is a relative of High Chaparral (Ire) and represents the Ed Vaughan stable in this maiden won in recent times by Rhododendron (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Amazing Maria (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}). Amongst her opponents is Jeff Smith’s Iconic Queen (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), a Ralph Beckett-trained half-sister to the G1 Juddmonte International heroine Arabian Queen (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}).

NOT IN DOUBT (GB) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) is one of the day’s intriguing juvenile runners as a daughter of the 2005 GI Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf heroine Intercontinental (GB) (Danehill). Andre Fabre introduces the Juddmonte homebred and also Lady Bamford’s Love Child (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}), a 700,000gns Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 graduate who is a half-sister to the G2 Prix Niel and G2 Prix Chaudenay winner Brundtland (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}).

Siblings to 22 G1SWs Catalogued for Deauville Select Sale

The Arqana Deauville Select Sale, which contains full- or half-siblings to 22 Group 1 winners among its 492-strong catalogue, will take place in Deauville on Sept. 24-26. Graduates of the rescheduled sale-which is usually held as the Arqana August Sale–have made an impact on the international stage, with French Classic hero Sottsass (Fr) (Siyouni {Ire}), G1SW Magic Wand (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and three-time American Grade I winner Uni (GB) (More Than Ready) among their number. Despite the difficulties presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, a total of 98 stallions are represented, while there are also 96 yearlings out of black-type winners.

Perennial champion sire Galileo has seven yearlings set to go under the hammer, including Ecurie des Monceaux colts out of G3 Prix Minerve heroine Golden Valentine (Fr) (Dalakhani {Ire}) (lot 103) from the family of Goldikova (Ire) (Anabaa); a full-brother to Group 1 winner Magic Wand (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) as lot 199; and lot 230, out of a Cape Cross (Ire) half-sister to G1SW Plumania (GB) (Anabaa). La Motteraye Consignment brings a colt and filly, respectively, to the Deauville ring-lot 4 from GSP Zut Alors (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) and thus a half-brother to Classic heroine Precieuse (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}); and the first foal out of MGSW Realtra (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) (lot 203). Another with an appealing international pedigree is Haras des Capucines filly lot 54, the daughter of listed winner Come to Heel (Ire) (Elnadim), herself a full-sister to the GSW Pasar Silbano (Ire) (Elnadim), edam of GSW & MG1SP Zousain (Aus) (Zoustar {Aus}). G1 Falmouth S. heroine Giofra (GB) (Dansili {GB})’s filly (lot 100) will be offered by Haras de la Perelle.

Monceaux also offers a Dubawi (Ire) half-sister (lot 251) to US champion and MGISW Sistercharlie (Ire) (Myboycharlie {Ire}), the aforementioned MG1SW Sottsass and GSW My Sister Nat (Fr) (Acclamation {GB}), one of six in the sale for the Darley sire. He also is represented by a half-sister to G1SW Biz the Nurse (Ire) (Oratorio {Ire}) (lot 34) from Allevamento Le Gi.

Other lots of note are: a full-sister to dual G1 Prix du l’Arc de Triomphe heroine Treve (Fr) (Motivator {GB}) as lot 269 from her breeder Haras du Quesnay; Haras d’Etreham’s half-brother (lot 274) by Almanzor (Fr) to MGISW Uni; a colt by Frankel (GB) out of G1SW Baltic Baroness (Ger) (Shamardal) from Gestut Ammerland as lot 30; another Frankel (GB) colt, this time from Ballylinch Stud, who is a half-brother to G1SW and Classic placed Al Wukair (Ire) (Dream Ahead) (lot 144); Haras du Logis Saint Germain offers a Gleneagles (Ire) half-brother (lot 277) to G1 French 1000 Guineas heroine Dream and Do (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}); and G1 Coronation S. heroine Watch Me (Fr) (Olympic Glory {Ire})’s Elvstroem (Aus) half-brother (lot 286) from the consignment of Haras du Petit Tellier; G1SW Polydream (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB})’s yearling half-sister (lot 194) by Siyouni (Fr) from Ecurie des Monceaux; lot 173, a half-sister to G1SW African Rose (GB) (Observatory) by Churchill (Ire) from the Haras d’Etreham consignment; lot 239, a Teofilo (Ire) colt out of G1SW Silca’s Sister (GB) (Inchinor {GB}) consigned by Haras de Grandcamp; and lot 39, a Dream Ahead filly who is a half-sister to MG1SW Addeybb (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) from Haras de Montaigu. There is one lot, lot 124, by the late Arrogate (Unbridled’s Song) from Haras de Colleville out of the GSP Kenriya (Fr) (Kendargent {Fr}).

During the 2019 Arqana August Yearling Sale, 228 yearlings sold of 304 offered (75%), with an average of €187,671 and a median of €125,000. The aggregate was €42,789,000. Topping last year’s sale was the Dubawi (Ire)-Prudenzia (Ire) (Dansili {GB}) filly Philomene (Ire), who sold to Godolphin for €1,625,000 from the Ecurie des Monceaux draft.

Part 1 of the sale will take place on Sept. 24-25 beginning at 2 p.m. each day, while Part 2 of the sale will begin at 11 a.m. on Sept. 26. Prix Jean Prat Winner Pinatubo Now Heading Standings For Cartier 3-Year-Old Colt

Pinatubo, winner of the Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt award in 2019, now heads the latest standings for Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt in 2020 following his victory in the G1 Qatar Prix Jean Prat at Deauville, France, on July 12.

The Cartier Racing Awards were established in 1991 to reward excellence in horseracing. There are eight equine awards – the Cartier Horse Of The Year, the Cartier Older Horse, the Cartier Sprinter, the Cartier Stayer, the Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt, the Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly, the Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt and the Cartier Two-Year-Old Filly.

European horseracing's top awards are delivered through a tried and tested combination of points earned by horses in Pattern races (30%), combined at the end of season with the opinions of a panel of racing journalists/handicappers (35%) and votes from readers of Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph (35%). The participation of the public plays a crucial role in determining the winners of each year's Cartier Racing Awards and gives horseracing fans the chance to put forward their favourite horses in a meaningful way.

In addition to the equine awards, the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Award of Merit goes to the person or persons who, in the opinion of the special 16-strong Cartier Jury, has/have done the most for European racing and/or breeding either over their lifetime or within the past 12 months. The 10 most recent recipients have been Pat Smullen, David Oldrey, Sir Michael Stoute, Aidan O'Brien, Jack Berry, Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Jim Bolger, Team Frankel, Barry Hills and Richard Hannon Sr.

The 30th annual Cartier Racing Awards will be awarded in November. Cartier continues its ongoing support with the presentation of Cartier Racing Awards in 2020, despite the cancellation of the traditional awards ceremony at The Dorchester in London, due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Cartier looks forward to resuming the awards ceremony in 2021.

Homebred by the Maktoum family's Godolphin operation, Shamardal colt Pinatubo (56 points) went through 2019 unbeaten in six races, culminating with G1 victories at the Curragh and Newmarket. The Charlie Appleby-trained colt began this season with placed efforts in the G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and at Royal Ascot in the G1 St James's Palace Stakes before registering a third career success at G1 level in the Qatar Prix Jean Prat. His closest pursuer in the Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt category is Santiago (48), who was successful in the G2 Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot before going on to land the G1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby.

Pinatubo also enters the reckoning for Cartier Horse of the Year, where the standings continue to be headed by Way To Paris (72), who has scored at G1 and G2 level already in 2020. Way To Paris, owned by Paolo Ferrario and trained by Andrea Marcialis, also leads in the Cartier Older Horse category. A significant mover in both the Cartier Horse of the Year and Cartier Older Horse standings is Nazeef (48), trained by John Gosden for Hamdan Al Maktoum. A daughter of Invincible Spirit, Nazeef has won all three of her starts so far this year. Her latest victory was her best yet as she took the G1 Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes on July 10, one of the highlights of Newmarket's Moët & Chandon July Festival.

Also successful at the three-day meeting was Oxted (40), who handed trainer Roger Teal a first G1 success in the six-furlong G1 Darley July Cup. The four-year-old Mayson gelding progressed through handicap company last season and displayed further improvement when landing the G3 Betway Abernant Stakes on his return to action at Newmarket in June. Oxted currently leads the Cartier Sprinter category alongside Golden Horde (40), winner of the G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot and third behind Oxted at Newmarket.

Love (64) continues to maintain her clear lead in the Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly category following her Classic victories in the G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas and G1 Investec Oaks. The Galileo filly, trained by Aidan O'Brien for a Coolmore syndicate, is set to head to York next for the G1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks in August.

It is a similar story in the Cartier Stayer division where Stradivarius (32), who was crowned Cartier Stayer in 2018 and 2019, continues to head the standings. Owned by Bjorn Nielsen and trained by John Gosden, Stradivarius claimed his third consecutive success in the G1 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot and is expected to attempt for a fourth win the G1 Qatar Goodwood Cup on July 28.
