Aqueduct to Re-Open to Fans Nov. 11

Aqueduct Racetrack will re-open to the public on Thursday, Nov. 11, opening day of the 2021 fall meet.

Originally closed to fans during the height of the COVID-19 emergency in March of 2020, Aqueduct then became the site of a New York State mass vaccination center in January 2021.

The vaccination center, which has distributed more than 300,000 COVID-19 inoculations to date, was a critical piece in the New York State led effort to quickly and efficiently vaccinate New Yorkers. The size and scope of the center, which occupied the entirety of Aqueduct's first floor, required the continued closure of the facility to the general public.

“We are proud to have partnered with New York State so that so many New Yorkers had easy access to these incredibly important vaccines,” said NYRA President and CEO Dave O'Rourke. “NYRA would also like to thank our loyal fans for their patience as we worked to bring them back to the Big A. Aqueduct is New York City's racetrack, and we couldn't be happier to finally be able to open the doors once again on Nov. 11.”

While the vaccination center will remain in operation, its footprint will be reduced and consolidated. Appointments are optional and walk-ins are currently being accommodated for COVID-19 vaccinations at Aqueduct.

New York City has established strict vaccine requirements for nearly all indoor settings. Proof of vaccination is currently required to enter indoor entertainment venues, sports arenas, restaurants, movie theaters, music and concert venues, museums, aquariums and zoos, convention centers, exhibition halls, hotel meeting and event spaces, performing arts theaters, bowling alleys, arcades and a host of other settings.

Live Racing at Belmont Park Extended Through Nov. 7

The Belmont fall meet, originally scheduled to conclude Oct. 31, will be extended to include three additional dates from Friday, Nov. 5 through Sunday, Nov. 7, it was announced Saturday. These dates were originally scheduled to be run at Aqueduct Racetrack as opening weekend of the Aqueduct fall meet.

New York State is continuing to operate a COVID-19 mass vaccination site throughout the first floor of Aqueduct. As a result, the facility remains closed to the public.

“NYRA is committed to supporting the ongoing effort to vaccinate New York, and Aqueduct Racetrack is an important piece of that puzzle,” said NYRA President & CEO Dave O'Rourke. “This schedule adjustment provides our fans the opportunity to experience world class racing on-track while enjoying Breeders' Cup weekend at Belmont Park.”

Belmont Park will host five stakes originally scheduled for Aqueduct, beginning with the Tempted S. and Atlantic Beach S. on Friday, Nov. 5. On Saturday, Nov. 6, the stakes action will include the GIII Turnback the Alarm H. and the Stewart Manor S. The extended Belmont fall meet will now conclude on Sunday, Nov. 7 with the GIII Nashua S.

The 15-day Aqueduct fall meet will now begin on Thursday, Nov. 11 and continue through Sunday, Dec. 5.

NYRA Extends Belmont Park Fall Meet Through November 7

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) today announced that the fall meet at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y., originally scheduled to conclude on October 31, will be extended to include three additional dates from Friday, November 5 through Sunday, November 7. These dates were originally scheduled to be run at Aqueduct Racetrack in Ozone Park, N.Y., as the opening weekend of the Aqueduct fall meet.

New York State is continuing to operate a COVID-19 mass vaccination site throughout the first floor of Aqueduct. As a result, the facility remains closed to the public. In order to accommodate racing fans who would ordinarily experience the Breeders' Cup World Championships – slated for November 5-6 at Del Mar – via simulcast at Aqueduct, NYRA will shift the first three days of the Aqueduct fall meet to Belmont Park.

“NYRA is committed to supporting the ongoing effort to vaccinate New York, and Aqueduct Racetrack is an important piece of that puzzle,” said NYRA President & CEO Dave O'Rourke. “This schedule adjustment provides our fans the opportunity to experience world-class racing on-track while enjoying Breeders' Cup weekend at Belmont Park.”

Belmont Park will host five stakes originally scheduled for Aqueduct, beginning with the $150,000 Tempted and $100,000 Atlantic Beach on Friday, November 5. On Saturday, November 6, the stakes action will include the $150,000 Grade 3 Turnback the Alarm Handicap and the $100,000 Stewart Manor. The extended Belmont fall meet will now conclude on Sunday, November 7 with the $150,000 Grade 3 Nashua.

The 15-day Aqueduct fall meet will now begin on Thursday, November 11, and continue through Sunday, December 5. A limited number of licensed owners, trainers, and staff will be permitted on-site at Aqueduct. NYRA will provide updates with regard to fan access to Aqueduct Racetrack as new information becomes available.

NYRA Issues Statement Of Charges, Notice Of Hearing To Bob Baffert, Marcus Vitali

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) today announced that it has issued a notice of hearing and statement of charges to trainers Robert A. Baffert and Marcus J. Vitali.

NYRA contends that Mr. Baffert and Mr. Vitali have engaged in conduct that is detrimental to the best interests of the sport of Thoroughbred racing or potentially injurious to the health or safety of horses or riders. Further, as detailed in the respective statements of charges, this conduct warrants revocation or suspension of their right to train horses, enter races, or engage in any racing-related activity at all NYRA properties including Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park and Saratoga Race Course.

NYRA has established Hearing Rules and Procedures that provide a formalized mechanism for a respondent to reply to charges and to participate in a hearing in accordance with due process rights. The hearing for Mr. Baffert is scheduled to begin on September 27, 2021. The hearing for Mr. Vitali is scheduled to begin on September 30, 2021.

“NYRA has a responsibility to protect the integrity of the sport of thoroughbred racing,” said NYRA President & CEO Dave O'Rourke. “We are determined to ensure the actions taken in furtherance of that goal comport with the requirements of due process, which is what the hearing rules and procedures established by NYRA provide.”

A designated hearing officer will ensure the proceedings are fairly and impartially conducted in accordance with NYRA's Hearing Rules and Procedures. Following the proceeding, the hearing officers will issue a report containing findings of fact, conclusions, and a recommended disposition.

The Honorable O. Peter Sherwood, a retired New York State Supreme Court Justice, will serve as hearing officer in the Mr. Baffert matter. The Honorable Robert Smith, a retired Judge of the New York Court of Appeals, will serve as hearing officer in the Mr. Vitali matter.
