Night Of Thunder To Cover Southern Hemisphere Time

Night Of Thunder (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), last year’s champion first-season sire who continues to lead his sire crop, will cover a limited book of mares Southern Hemisphere time at Kildangan Stud later this year.

Night Of Thunder got off to a fast start last year, registering seven stakes winners in his first season with runners. He now has 12 Northern Hemisphere stakes winners, headed thus far this season by the G3 Jersey S. winner Molatham (GB). His seven European 3-year-old black-type winners this season leads all sires on the continent, and his 10.4% clip of stakes winners to runners puts him atop all Northern Hemisphere sires by that metric. While that first crop continues to win at a 55% clip (from runners), his second crop has also hit the ground running; it is currently registering 57% winners to runners and is headed by the ‘TDN Rising Star’ and G2 Coventry S. second Qaader (GB).

Meanwhile, from his lone Australian-conceived crop, Night Of Thunder has sired eight winners and two stakes winners from 16 runners. He is the only first-season sire Down Under this season with more than one stakes winner and his 12.5% clip of stakes winners to runners leads all sires in the nation. All of his Australian winners are rated 80 or higher by Timeform.

Eamon Moloney, nominations manager at Kildangan Stud, said, “The standard that Night Of Thunder’s progeny have achieved in both hemispheres to date are propelling him to an elite stallion status with global appeal. He has just finished covering an exceptional book of mares and is now receiving a lot of interest for a limited number of Southern Hemisphere nominations, which will be covered from his base in Kildangan Stud.”

Freshman Sire Buratino Off the Mark at Hamilton

Darley stallion Buratino (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}), who operates out of Kildangan Stud at a fee of €5,000 (on Oct. 1 special live foal terms), registered an overdue first winner when Hambleton Racing 38’s Tinochio (Ire) landed the spoils going five furlongs in Wednesday’s British Stallion Studs EBF Novice S. at Hamilton. The MG1SP G2 Coventry S. victor had so nearly cut through on Tuesday, but Michael Mulvany trainee The Blue Panther (Ire) was denied in the final stride of a Navan maiden heat.

TINOCHIO (IRE) (c, 2, Buratino {Ire}–Endless Peace {Ire}, by Russian Revival), who finished just under a length off the winner when a promising fourth in his June 10 debut tackling Pontefract’s one-turn five furlongs last time, was sharply into stride and raced in a close-up second through halfway in this straight dash. Last off the bridle when easing to the fore soon after passing the quarter-mile marker, the 2-1 favourite was shaken up approaching the final furlong and lengthened clear under mild coaxing in the closing stages to score by an impressive three lengths from Burning Cash (Ire) (Strath Burn {GB}). The April-foaled chestnut becomes the sixth winner from as many runners produced by a half-sister to five black-type performers headed by G3 Sandown Sprint victor and G2 Norfolk S. runner-up Hoh Mike (Ire) (Intikhab). He is half to a yearling filly by The Last Lion (Ire) and hails from a family featuring four-time G1 Irish St Leger hero Vinnie Roe (Ire) (Definite Article {GB}) and fellow G1 Irish St Leger-winning sire M-Lolshan (Ire) (Levmoss {GB}). Dubawi’s Lord North Sensational In the Prince of Wales’s

John Gosden’s decision to pitch Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed Racing’s June 7 G3 Brigadier Gerard S. winner Lord North (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) into Wednesday’s G1 Prince of Wales’s S. paid handsome dividends as the 4-year-old demolished his rivals. Settled in rear by James Doyle early, the 5-1 shot stormed to the front approaching the furlong pole and surged clear to beat Addeybb (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) by 3 3/4lengths, with Barney Roy (GB) (Excelebration {Ire}) 1 1/4 lengths back in third.
