Global Campaign Ruled Out Of Pegasus, Retired To WinStar For 2021

Grade 1 winner Global Campaign, third in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) at Keeneland Nov. 7, with a career-best 106 Beyer, will not resume training and has been retired, WinStar Farm announced today. Campaigned by Sagamore Farm and WinStar Farm, Global Campaign will stand the 2021 breeding season at WinStar for a fee of $12,500 S&N.

“We considered bringing him back for a final start in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational S. (G1) because he ran so well in the Breeders' Cup,” said Elliott Walden, WinStar's president, CEO, and racing manager. “He shed his frog in that race and the timing of getting him back into training is not going to work, unfortunately. He has been very popular when people see him, and we are excited about standing him next year.”

The 4-year-old son of Curlin emulated his sire by capturing the Woodward H. (G1) in his start prior to the Breeders' Cup Classic, earning a 104 Beyer in the front-running score for trainer Stanley Hough. The Woodward marked his second straight Graded win following a victory in the Monmouth Cup S. (G3) over the summer. Last year at three, he won the Peter Pan S. (G3), defeating next-out Belmont S. (G1) winner Sir Winston. All told, Global Campaign retires with a record of 10-6-0-2, having amassed earnings of $1,321,080.

A winner from seven furlongs to 1 ¼ miles, Global Campaign is out of the A.P. Indy mare Globe Trot, making him a half-brother to multiple Grade 1 winner Bolt d'Oro and multiple stakes winner Sonic Mule.

Curlin’s Honor To Stand At Pleasant Acres Stallions In Florida

Graded stakes-placed and black type Winner, Curlin's Honor (Curlin – Franscat, by Stormin Fever) – from the family of Fappiano – will be standing in Florida for the 2021 breeding season at Pleasant Acres Stallions in Morriston, with a fee of $2,500.

Curlin's Honor is a son of Curlin – two-time Horse of the Year and Eclipse Award Champion 3-Year-Old and Champion Older Horse. Curlin is sire of 67 stakes winners and 123 stakes horses. Curlin's Honor's dam, Franscat, has produced eight winners out of nine starters, including three black type winners and 1 Graded black type horse.

Trained by Mark Casse, Curlin's Honor was in the money 12 out of 17 starts. At 3, he won the 6f $100,000 Woodstock Stakes (Listed) in 1:08.85 for six furlongs by 2 ¼ lengths. In the same year, he placed second in the seven-furlong, $100,000 Paradise Creek Stakes and the nine-furlong $125,000 G3 Ontario Derby, beating graded stakes winner Mr. Ritz. At 4, he won the eight-furlong, $150,000 Artie Schiller Stakes (Listed), defeating Grade 1 winner Voodoo Song. In the same year, he placed second in the eight-furlong, $175,000 Grade 2 King Edward Stakes, and third in the seven-furong, $175,000 Grade 2 Connaught Cup Stakes, the seven-furlong, $175,000 Grade 2 Play the King Stakes, the six-furlong, $125,000 Grade 3 Jacques Cartier Stakes, and the 6 1/2-furlong, $125,000 Grade 3 Bold Venture Stakes.

Pleasant Acres Stallions has received many accolades for excellence, including 2017 Florida Freshman Sire of the Year for Poseidon's Warrior, 2017 DRF Florida-bred Beyer Award, 2009 Florida Breeder of the Year, 2009 Florida Broodmare of the Year, Breeder of the 2009 Florida Horse of the Year, and was ranked third in the nation for leading breeders in 2009 by average earnings per starter with 10 or more starters.

Curlin ‘Rising Star’ Looks Tough in Mazarine

Live Oak Plantation’s Souper Sensational (Curlin), a ‘TDN Rising Star’ and dominant last-out stakes winner, will take some beating as a likely prohibitive favorite making her graded stakes bow in Sunday’s GIII Mazarine S. at Woodbine.

Unveiled as a 6-5 favorite traveling seven furlongs here Sept. 26, the $725,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga purchase notched a handy 2 1/4-length success over a runner-up who was another 9 3/4 lengths clear of third. Hammered down to 3-5 stepping up into stakes company in the Glorious Song S. Oct. 17, the chestnut did not disappoint, racing up on a swift pace and running away to a four-length score.

While the chalk looks probable to benefit from an advantageous pace scenario in her two-turn bow, two contenders who could pick up the pieces if things get hot up front are Batyah (Pioneerof the Nile) and Designer Ready (Tapit). Rallying from well back to graduate going away by 2 1/4 lengths when opening her account over a grassy mile Sept. 19 at Belmont, $150,000 Keeneland September buy Batyah closed some ground to be fifth behind next-out GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies heroine Aunt Pearl (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) in the GII JPMorgan Chase Jessamine S. Oct. 7 at Keeneland. Bruce Lunsford’s Designer Ready broke slowly debuting over 1 1/16 miles on the local grass Oct. 3 before going from last to first to triumph by 2 1/2 lengths in a race that’s featured three next-out winners.

Pegasus Start ‘Under Consideration’ For Classic Third Global Campaign

Sagamore Farm and WinStar Farm's Global Campaign will stand stud at WinStar next year, but the third place finisher in last weekend's Breeders' Cup Classic could first be pointed to the Pegasus World Cup on Jan. 23, reports drf.com.

The 4-year-old son of Curlin was bred by WinStar out of the A.P. Indy mare Globe Trot, making him the half-brother to Spendthrift sire Bolt d'Oro. Trained by Stanley Hough, Global Campaign won the G3 Peter Pan Stakes as a 3-year-old, and this year won the G3 Monmouth Cup and the G1 Woodward. His record stands at six wins from 10 starts for earnings of $1,321,080.

“The Pegasus is something that's definitely under consideration,” Hunter Rankin, president of Sagamore Farm, told drf.com. Global Campaign will spend the next week or so at WinStar for inspections, then return to Hough's stable.

Sagamore Farm announced a dispersal of all its equine stock last week.

Following the Breeders' Cup World Championships at Keeneland, another horse reported to be under consideration for the 2021 Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park is Belmont Stakes winner and Classic disappointment Tiz the Law.
