Saturday’s Cross Country Pick 5 Features All Graded Stakes Action From Belmont, Keeneland, Monmouth

Saturday's Cross Country Pick 5 will feature graded stakes in every race to highlight action across Belmont Park, Keeneland Race Course and Monmouth Park in a wager hosted by the New York Racing Association, Inc.

Monmouth will start the action in Race 8 at 3:53 p.m. Eastern with the Grade 3, $150,000 Monmouth for 3-year-olds and up going 1 1/8 miles on the turf. The Chad Brown trained Almanaar will be making his first start since he won last year's edition of the Monmouth in May 2019, coming off a 17-month layoff by looking to make a repeat bid. Brown will also send out the English-bred Serve the King for his first graded stakes start. Bal Harbour, who has run third in three consecutive graded stakes at the same racetrack, including the Grade 3 Monmouth Cup in July, will look to break through in his turf debut for trainer Gregory Sacco.

Belmont will host the first of two Grade 1 events for the Cross Country Pick 5, with seven fillies and mares 3-years-old and up competing in the $250,000 Flower Bowl going 1 ¼ miles on the inner turf in Race 8 at 4:14 p.m. The contest, a “Win and You're In” qualifier to the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf on November 7 at Keeneland, will feature the top-four finishers in the Grade 2 Glens Falls in August at Saratoga all return. Civil Union, trained by Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey, won that contest last out and will face three Brown-trained contenders in Cambier Parc, My Sister Nat and Nay Lady Nay. Conditioner Tom Albertrani will send out a pair in Beau Belle and Lovely Lucky while the French-bred La Signare, trained by Brendan Walsh, rounds out the field.

Keeneland will get in on the party with the Grade 3, $200,000 Fayette for 3-year-olds and up going nine furlongs on the main track in Race 8 at 4:57 p.m. Mr Freeze, second in last year's running, will look to earn a trip to the winner's circle for trainer Dale Romans off a sixth-place finish in the Grade 2 Alysheba in September at Churchill Downs. Returning off a five-month layoff for trainer Danny Gargan is multiple graded-stakes winner Tax, who captured the 2019 Grade 2 Jim Dandy at Saratoga,.

The penultimate leg is the Grade 2, $150,000 Sands Point for sophomore fillies going one mile on the Belmont Widener turf in Race 10 at 5:20 p.m. Brown will saddle two strong contenders, with multiple graded-stakes winner Selflessly and French-bred Tamahere as the four-time Eclipse Award-winning conditioner looks to secure his fourth win in the race. Speaktomeofsummer will turn back in distance following a Saratoga summer campaign that saw the Summer Front bay capture the nine-furlong Grade 2 Lake Placid on July 19 ahead of a fourth in the 1 3/16-mile Saratoga Oaks Invitational on August 16.

The finale will be the Grade 1, $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup for 3-year-old fillies contesting at nine furlongs on the turf in Race 9 at 5:30 p.m. The English-bred Magic Attitude, winner of the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks last month in her North American debut, garnered acclaim for her career in Europe before coming over to the United States following a win in the Group 1 French Oaks in July at Chantilly. Steep opposition will be provided by multiple graded-stakes winner Sweet Melania, who captured the Grade 3 Wonder Again in June at Belmont for trainer Todd Pletcher; and a pair of fillies trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott in Saratoga Oaks Invitational-winner Antoinette and graded-stakes winner Harvey's Lil Goil.

The minimum bet for the multi-track, multi-race wager is 50 cents. Wagering on the Cross Country Pick 5 is also available on ADW platforms and at simulcast facilities across the country. Every week will feature a mandatory payout of the net pool.

All Grade 1 Cross Country Pick 5 Features Free Equibase Past Performances

A Cross Country Pick 5 that encompasses five Grade 1 contests across Belmont Park and Keeneland Race Course will highlight exciting action on Saturday in a wager hosted by the New York Racing Association, Inc.

Top-caliber racing will start at Belmont in Race 7 at 4:03 p.m. Eastern with the $250,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic for 3-year-olds and up going 1 1/2 miles on the Widener course. Grade 1-winning multimillionaires Channel Maker and Sadler's Joy will face one another for the 15th time, while 2-1 morning-line favorite Rockemperor will look to build on a last-out third-place effort to stablemate Digital Age in the Grade 1 Old Forester Bourbon Turf Classic on September 5 at Churchill Downs. In his prior effort, he was second, beaten by a neck to stablemate Instilled Regard, in the Grade 1 Manhattan on July 4 at Belmont, earning a career-best 102 Beyer Speed Figure. New York-bred Cross Border, the winner of the Grade 2 Bowling Green on August 1 at Saratoga, also will contend in the seven-horse field.

Keeneland will host the first of its three races in the sequence with the $350,000 First Lady for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up going one mile on the turf in Race 8 at 4:51 p.m. Trainer Chad Brown trains two of the field's six entrants for a race that is a “Win and You're In” qualifier to the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf on November 7 at the same track, saddling 2019 champion grass mare Uni and Newspaperofrecord, winner of the 2018 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas will send out Crystal Lake, with the field also comprising Beau Recall, Dalika and Daddy Is a Legend.

Another Breeders' Cup qualifier will highlight the third leg back at Belmont, where a nine-horse field of sophomores will compete in the 71st running of the Grade 1, $250,000 Belmont Derby Invitational going 1 1/4 miles on the inner turf in Race 9 at 5:06 p.m. A spot in the Grade 1, $4 million Breeders' Cup Turf on November 7 will be on the line for a race that features the top-three finishers of the Saratoga Derby Invitational – Domestic Spending, Gufo and No Word – all returning for a rematch. The Brown-trained Domestic Spending, who outlasted the Christophe Clement-conditioned Gufo by a head in August, has three wins in four career starts. Other contenders include Mo Ready, South Bend, Pixelate, Venezuelan Hug, Moon Over Miami and Ajourneytofreedom.

Keeneland will conclude the wager with the final two legs, starting with the $400,000 Claiborne Breeders' Futurity for juveniles going 1 1/16 miles on the main track in Race 8 at 5:24 p.m. A spot in the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile will be on the line, with Godolphin homebred Essential Quality, a winner on Kentucky Derby Day last month at Churchill Downs, headlining a nine-horse field. King Fury, trained by two-time Breeders' Futurity winner Kenny McPeek, was a 2 ¾ length debut winner going 1 1/16 miles on September 3.

The finale will be the $750,000 Shadwell Turf Mile for 3-year-olds and up in Race 10 at 5:57 p.m. Halladay, the winner of the Grade 1 Fourstardave this summer at Saratoga, will look for additional glory in a race that's an automatic qualifier to the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Mile on November 7, though Halladay earned a spot in the race with his last-out victory. Other contenders looking to punch a return ticket to Keeneland include Grade 1-winners Bowies Hero and Raging Bull, as well as Group 1-victors in Without Parole [Great Britain] and Ivar [Brazil].

Longshots Fuel $54,460 Payoff In NYRA’s Cross Country Pick 5

Exciting racing action from Belmont Park and Churchill Downs comprised Saturday's Cross Country Pick 5, which returned $54,460 for selecting all five winners for the 50-cent wager with a total pool of $128,145.

Big Engine powered the wager's first leg, defeating Tribecca by a half-length in a six-furlong main track sprint for allowance optional claimers in Belmont's Race 7. Off at 10-1, Big Engine complete the course in 1:10.07 under jockey Jose Lezcano, returning $23.40 on a $2 win wager. Trained by Linda Rice, Big Engine bested an eight-horse field that included stakes-winners T Loves a Fight and Celtic Chaos.

Action shifted to Churchill for the second leg, with Estilo Femenino rallying from last-of-10 at the half-mile mark to post a three-quarters of a length victory in the one-mile dirt contest for allowance optional claimers in Race 8. The 25-1 longshot, piloted by Joseph Talamo and trained by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen, paid $53.60.

Belmont's Race 8 started the first of three graded stakes to close out the sequence, with trainer Chad Brown notching the exacta in the Grade 3, $100,000 Noble Damsel for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up going one mile on the Belmont Widener turf in Race 8. Two English-breds, Viadera and the 2-1 favorite Blowout, ran 1-2 for Brown, who won his fifth consecutive Noble Damsel. Joel Rosario, aboard Viadera [$13] won his third Noble Damsel in the last four runnings as his 4-year-old Bated Breath filly surged along the rail to edge Blowout by a neck in a final time of 1:32.06.

Churchill got in on the stakes action in Race 9 when Mr. Money earned the purse with a 1 ¼-length victory in the Grade 3, $100,000 Ack Ack for 3-year-olds and up going one mile on the main track. Conditioned by Bret Calhoun, Mr. Money went off at 6-1 but used a strong move near the rail to draw away from runner-up Bourbon Calling. Ridden by Gabriel Saez, Mr. Money completed the course in 1:34.85 and returned $14.80.

The finale saw a familiar face make a return trip to the winner's circle, as Firenze Fire registered a 2 3/4-length score in the Grade 2, $150,000 Vosburgh going six furlongs on Belmont's Big Sandy. The Kelly Breen trainee punched his ticket to Keeneland, with the 81st running of the Vosburgh serving as a “Win and You're In” qualifier for the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Sprint on November 7 in Kentucky. Off as the 2-1 second choice behind favorite and eventual runner-up Funny Guy, Firenze Fire, who hit the wire in 1:09.74, was ridden by Lezcano and paid $7.20.

NYRA Partners With Churchill Downs For Saturday Cross Country Pick 5

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) will partner with Churchill Downs for Saturday's Cross Country Pick 5, a unique offering highlighted by three graded stakes.

The sequence begins at beautiful Belmont Park in Race 7 at 4:08 p.m. Eastern with a six-furlong allowance optional-claiming sprint. The 10-horse field includes Liam's Pride, winner of the Gold Fever on a sloppy Belmont strip in July; popular 11-time winner T Loves a Fight; and the talented Hidden Scroll returning to the main track following off-the-board efforts on turf for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott.

Action then shifts to historic Churchill Downs for the second leg [Race 8, 4:21 p.m. Eastern] where a field of 10 allowance optional-claiming fillies and mares will travel a one-turn mile on the main track. Joy Epifora, a Group 1 winner in her native Argentina, returns to the main track for trainer Ignacio Correas, IV to face a talented group that includes multiple graded-stakes placed Gold Standard for trainer Brad Cox; and half-million earner Talk Veuve to Me, a graded stakes winner trained by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen.

A trio of graded stakes to complete the wager begins in Race 8 at Belmont Park at 4:42 p.m. Eastern with the Grade 3 Noble Damsel, a one-mile turf event for fillies and mares 3-years-old and upward. Four-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer Chad Brown sends out the talented troika of Viadera, Blowout and Noor Sahara to square off against the improving Feel Glorious, who searches for her first graded stakes win for conditioner Christophe Clement.

The penultimate leg from Churchill Downs [Race 9, 4:53 p.m.], the Grade 3, $100,000 Ack Ack, will see a field of 13 traverse a one-turn mile on the main track. Leading the charge is $1.3 million earner Mr. Money, a 4-year-old son of Goldencents trained by Bret Calhoun sporting a record of three wins from five starts at the Louisville oval. Steep opposition will be provided by Calumet Farm's Everfast, runner-up in last year's Grade 1 Preakness; and Grade 3 Razorback champ Warrior's Charge, a five-time winner for trainer Brad Cox who was elevated to first last out in the Grade 3 Philip H. Iselin at Monmouth Park.

The sequence concludes at Belmont Park in Race 9 at 5:14 p.m. with the Grade 2, $150,000 Vosburgh, a six-furlong sprint led by six-time graded-stakes winning millionaire Firenze Fire for trainer Kelly Breen. Opposition in the six-horse field is led by the John Terranova-trained pair of Funny Guy and Stan the Man.
