Caravaggio Colt Highlights Doncaster Breeze Up Catalogue

There are 177 juveniles catalogued for the Goffs UK Doncaster Breeze Up Sale, the sales company announced on Tuesday. The breezes will be held at Doncaster Racecourse on Apr. 20 beginning at noon local time. The sale is slated for Apr. 21-22 with sessions starting at 10 a.m. local time each day.

Several Royal Ascot winners have been sourced from the sale in recent years, including G1 Princes Of Wales's S. hero My Dream Boat (Ire) (Lord Shanakill), G1 Commonwealth Cup S. winner Quiet Reflection (GB) (Showcasing {GB}), G2 Norfolk S. victors Prince Of Lir (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) and A'Ali (Ire) (Society Rock {Ire}) and Listed Windsor Castle S. winner Ardad (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}). Steel Bull (Ire) (Clodovil {Ire}), a Doncaster Breeze Up alumni, won the G3 Molecomb S. in 2020, while Bodhicitta (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) landed the GII Yellow Ribbon S. at Del Mar and Umm Kulthum (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) saluted in the G3 Firth of Clyde S.

Several notable lots include: lot 25, a Caravaggio half-brother to Group 1 winner Chachamaidee (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}); a More Than Ready colt (lot 47) who is out of a half-sister to Grade I winner Gift Box (Twirling Candy) and Grade II winner Special Forces (Candy Ride {Arg}) and a full-sister to Grade II heroine Stonetastic (Mizzen Mast); lot 76, a Kingman (GB) half-brother to stakes-winner Cloud Surfing (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) and out of a half-sister to Group 1 winner Together (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}); a New Bay (GB) half-brother (lot 96) to Group 1 winner Wizz Kid (Ire) (Whipper); a colt by Dark Angel (Ire) (lot 166) who is a half-brother to the listed winner Tarana (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}), the dam of champion and three-time Group 1 winner Tarnawa (Ire) (Shamardal); and a Blame colt (lot 172) out of a half-sister to Grade I winner Dance To Bristol (Speightstown).

In 2020, the sale was combined with Arqana and held in July due to the COVID-19 pandemic with a top price of £650,000. The aggregate was £12,980,100 for 153 juveniles sold from 176 offered (87%). The average was £84,837 and the median was £50,000.

Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent commented, “We are incredibly proud of the track record of this sale and the list of top-class graduates continues to grow each year, a fact that buyers are firmly aware of when buying their breezers. This sale is now the undisputed number one source of Royal Ascot winners with five Goffs Breeze Up graduates winning since 2016 and two of those at Group 1 level.

“The sale will again be held just eight weeks prior to the Royal meeting and the same window has been successful for buyers in recent years with A'Ali (G2 Norfolk S.), Prince Of Lir (G2 Norfolk S.) and Ardad (Listed Windsor Castle S.) all sold at Doncaster just eight weeks prior to the Royal meeting. This is a proven formula and, as ever, we are indebted to our loyal vendors who have again offered some outstanding horses who are guaranteed to continue to showcase this sale on the very biggest stage.

“Once again, all horses have been entered in the Swedish Derby and Oaks Series and we look forward to welcoming new buyers from this region whilst we will also be working in conjunction with GBRI to sell the Royal Ascot dream to all buyers, both domestic and international. The Doncaster Breeze Up Sale has a proven track record for Royal Ascot success and we are excited to offer buyers a genuine chance of getting in to the Royal winners enclosure later this year.”

Tattersalls Ireland Reschedules May Store Sale

The Tattersalls Ireland May Store Sale has been rescheduled for Wednesday, July 14. Tattersalls Ireland has taken this step due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and prevailing travel restrictions. The Tattersalls Ireland Select July Store Sale is slated for Thursday, July 15, and the remaining stores will be put under the hammer at the Tattersalls Ireland August NH Sale on Aug. 10-11. At this time, inspections for the various store sales are almost complete, and the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale remains as scheduled on June 23-24.

“Naturally our first preference would have been to hold what is normally the first store sale of the year in May but, we do not feel it is prudent to hold a select store sale in May or early June due to ongoing uncertainty and current travel restrictions,” said Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins. “Given that point-to-points are yet to resume, we feel that it is imperative that we allow time for the market to recover and ensure we provide a vibrant marketplace following the Derby Sale.

“We have received positive feedback from a number of vendors on this decision, who have echoed our concerns for the marketplace in May and early June and have welcomed the clarity at this early stage. We have liaised with Goffs on this decision to ensure that any changes to our sales dates are in harmony with their plans.”

Based on increasing vaccine availability and declining COVID-19 numbers, The Stronach Group and TOC outlined new protocols at Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields to allow licensed owners more access to the grounds.

SANTA ANITA PARK

Mandatory Santa Anita protocols, including social distancing (a minimum of six feet), face cloths covering your nose and mouth, health screening, temperature check and wrist banding will continue to be enforced for everyone entering Santa Anita, including the Stable Area.

Winner's Circle

After each race, the winning horse will be brought into the winners' circle and a limited number of owners will be allowed access for the customary photo.

  • Social distancing (minimum of six feet) in the winner's circle will be strictly enforced.
  • Entrance to the winner's circle will be restricted to a maximum of eight owners and/or guests to allow for social distancing.
  • Owners and/or guests will be required to stand on the West Side of the winner's circle.
  • Face cloths covering nose and mouth remain mandatory at Santa Anita, including the winner's circle.

Stable Area Access

  • Each trainer can authorize a maximum of two CHRB licensed owners to go to their barn at any one time between 10:00 a.m. – 7:00p.m. daily.
  • Prior to entrance, owners and their guest must pre-register with the Santa Anita Racing Office and submit one of the following to the Santa Anita Racing

Stable Office:

  • Negative COVID-19 test result that is received within 72 hours prior to the day requested (Negative COVID test can remain on file for a maximum of 30 days)
  • Proof of completed scheduled COVID-19 vaccination doses
  • Each owner may bring one additional family member.
  • Owners may only visit the barn where their horse is stabled.
  • Owners must keep their visits to the outside areas, including the stall entrances, and not enter stable offices, tack rooms or other enclosed locations.

Workouts/Afternoon Racing

  • The current protocol (i.e. CHRB licensed owners are permitted each race day) will remain in place for the time being, and CHRB licensed owners should continue to contact TOC to put your name on the reservation list for each race day. No reservation is required for morning workouts. Contact mforney@toconline.com, eperon@toconline.com, or call Mary Forney at (626) 826-3782.

GOLDEN GATE FIELDS

The grandstand and winner's circle at Golden Gate Fields are open for live racing to CHRB licensed owners with the following protocols in place:

  • Owners must provide a Negative COVID-19 test result that is received within 72 hours prior to the race day (Negative COVID test can remain on file for a maximum of 30 days).
  • N95 masks covering your nose and mouth remain mandatory at Golden Gate Fields, including the winner's circle.
  • Social distancing (minimum of six-feet) in the winner's circle will be strictly enforced.
  • Entrance to the winner's circle will be restricted to a limited number of owners and/or their guests to allow for social distancing.
  • The grandstand is open for morning workouts on Saturday and Sunday mornings to owners under the aforementioned protocols.

The local health department continues to mandate that the stable area at Golden Gate Fields remains closed to owners, however, conversations are continuing to lessen those restrictions as the COVID-19 numbers improve in the county, and an update could be issued soon.
