Goodwood Winner The Platinum Queen Possible for the Nunthorpe

The Platinum Queen (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}), impressive winner of Goodwood's Alice Keppel Fillies' Conditions S. July 27, is being considered for the Coolmore G1 Nunthorpe S. at York Aug. 19. Campaigned by Middleham Park Racing, the juvenile would have to be supplemented to the five-furlong test.

Sent off the 5-6 favorite in her latest start, the Richard Fahey-trained filly came home a four-length winner over nine rivals, setting a new track record for 2-year-olds while recording a faster time than the winner of the G3 Molecomb S. on the same card.

“We were quite impressed with how Trillium (GB) (No Nay Never) went about her business in the Molecomb, the jury was out on whether we should or we shouldn't have run in that race after [her win],” said Middleham Park's Tom Palin. “There were a few people thinking we'd done the wrong thing but she's quite a forward-going filly. She's not buzzy, she doesn't sweat or anything like that, but for her development we felt it was best to give her a slightly quieter day in slightly calmer waters to get another win under her belt.”

In addition to the Nunthorpe, Palin indicated the Listed Roses S. is also an option during York's Ebor meeting. Hollie Doyle is slated to ride.

“She will definitely go to York, the Roses is on the Saturday, the listed five-furlong race. I imagine she'd be even-money or maybe a bit shorter than that if she went there. It is still a definite option.”

“We will probably leave it as late as we dare, just so we know how the filly is. We'll make the decision and speak to the syndicate when we've got all the information at our disposal and we feel it's something we want to take a chance on.”

“It could be quite sporting to roll the dice and give it a go. She has speed but it's not just speed, she's classy as well.”

Cotai Glory Filly Strikes At Group Level In Milan

Bottle Of Bubbles (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}), one of two horses in the G3 Premio Primi Passi for trainer Florian Guyader and owner Theresa Marnane, ran out a narrow winner against colts in the 1200-metre contest at San Siro on Thursday.

Part of a 7-2 joint entry with stablemate Mandega (Fr) (Panis), the £18,000 Tattersalls Ireland September yearling raced at the rear of the field as Optically (Ity) (Le Vie Infinite {Ire}) led. She charged up on the heels of the stalking second Saputello (Ity) (Lord Chaparral {Ire}), before shifting toward the outside for her challenge past halfway.

It took most of the stretch to subdue the new leader as Optically dropped back, but she bested that foe just inside the final furlong, and held off a closing Vero Atleta (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}) to win by a neck. Saputello hung grimly on for third by a half-length. Mandega was a staying on fifth, behind Edith Dei Grif (Ity) (Sakhee's Secret {GB}).

A winner at first asking at Lyon-Parilly in March, the bay was second in the Listed Premio Alessandro Perrone three starts later in Rome on May 22. She was fifth at Chantilly on June 5 in her most recent appearance.

Pedigree Notes

Cotai Glory celebrated his third black-type winner and second group winner with Bottle Of Bubbles's victory. His Atomic Force (Ire) has won twice at group level in France, while Purciaretta (Ire) struck at the listed level in Italy. The young Tally-Ho Stud-based sire has eight other stakes-placed horses to his name.

The winner is the third foal and first winner for her dam, who won twice as a juvenile. This is the same female family as G1 Cheveley Park S. heroine Airwave (GB) (Air Express {Ire}), herself the dam of five black-type winners including Meow (Ire) (Storm Cat), the dam of Group 1-winning Galileo (Ire) full-siblings Churchill (Ire) and Clemmie (Ire).

Another Rising Star At Newmarket As Cotai Glory Filly Shines

After Dramatised (Ire) (Showcasing {GB}) in the meeting opener on Friday, the sharp and fast juvenile Miami Girl (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}) followed suit in gaining a TDN Rising Star tag at Newmarket's Guineas festival on Sunday. A touch tardy from the gates in the five-furlong maiden but soon racing exuberantly on the heels of the leaders, the 5-1 shot was sent to the front approaching the furlong pole and opened up with relish to record a 5 1/2-length verdict over Beautiful Sunrise (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}), with 3/4 of a length back to the 10-11 favourite Syndicated (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), the son of J Wonder (Footstepsinthesand {GB}) who pulled away his chance.

Trainer Richard Hannon, whose Threat (GB) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}) was labelled a TDN Rising Star in this three years ago, admitted to an element of surprise at the manner of performance of the winner who proved difficult to pull up passing the line. “That was a very good performance by a filly against colts–she hasn't been that impressive at home!” he said. “She needs to learn to relax a little bit, but of course Royal Ascot is the target. She surprised me a bit, as she was a little bit flighty in the parade ring and jogging at the start, whereas she's very relaxed at home. If she relaxes, she could maybe go to the [Listed] National [at Sandown] or the [Listed] Marygate [at York] first but if not we are very happy to go to Ascot with the bubble still intact. We'll make hay while the sun shines.”

Miami Girl, the first TDN Rising Star for her sire, is currently the last known foal out of Ebony Street (Street Cry {Ire}), a daughter of the G1 Oaks d'Italia heroine Menhoubah (Dixieland Band) who was also third in the G1 Moyglare Stud S. This is the family of the Listed Rosemary S. winner and G2 Cherry Hinton S. third Ahla Wasahl (GB) (Dubai Destination) and the G1 Sussex S.-winning sire Posse.

Time Test Leads Goffs Online Breeding Rights Catalogue

An online sale of three stallion breeding rights, in Time Test (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), Territories (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) and Cotai Glory (GB) (Exceed And Excel {Aus]), was announced by Goffs on Wednesday. Bidding opens on the timed sale after the last mare is sold during the Goffs February Sale on Thursday, Feb. 10, and closes at 12 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11. Entries are still being accepted by Goffs. The leading first-season sire by black-type winners, Time Test has sired the Group 1-placed Sunset Shiraz (Ire) and the Group 3 winners Romantic Time (GB) and Rocchigiani (GB), as well as the listed duo of Tardis (GB) and The King's Horses (GB). He stands for £15,000 at The National Stud this year.

Darley's Territories sired pricy auction purchase Rougir (Fr), who won the G1 Prix de l'Opera Longines last year and also counts the group placed Masseto (GB) and Rhoscolyn (GB) among his progeny. He commands £10,000 at Dalham Hall Stud.

Tops for first-season sires with winners (35) in 2021, Cotai Glory counts G2 Prix Robert Papin winner Atomic Force (Ire) among his best runners. The chestnut, who stands at Tally-Ho Stud for €8,500 this season, also has sired the group placed Pearl Glory (Ire), Eldrickjones (Ire) and the listed winner Purciaretta (Ire).

Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said, “Goffs Online was first introduced to the market in 2020 and since its inception it has proven a market leading platform. We have used it to aid our live auctions on both sides of the Irish Sea as well as hosting timed online sales which has seen it sell horses up to £300,000.

“We have secured the sale of breeding rights to three very promising young sires which have strong commercial appeal and this online auction enhances the extensive offering at our three-day Goffs February Sale next week. This online sale will open at the conclusion of the final day of breeding stock and if breeders wish to discuss adding any additional breeding rights to the sale, we invite them to contact a member of the Goffs team. This new departure for Goffs only widens our offering and the introduction of the Agents Commission, which was successfully introduced for the online London Sale last summer, should also broaden the sales appeal.”
