Air Force Blue Sold To Stand In Korea

Air Force Blue, a European champion and young sire, has been sold to continue his stud career at Peter Hill's Pegasus Farm in Korea, BloodHorse reports.

The 8-year-old son of War Front previously stood at Ashford Stud in Kentucky, where he retired to debut for the 2017 breeding season. His oldest foals are 3-year-olds of 2021.

Leading the way among Air Force Blue's runners is Haddassah, who won this year's Prince of Wales Stakes, a Canadian classic.

Bred in Kentucky by Stone Farm out of the stakes-placed Maria's Mon mare Chatham, Air Force Blue sold to the Coolmore partnership at the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. He'd go on to be named Europe's champion 2-year-old male of 2018 after a campaign that featured Group 1 victories in the Vincent O'Brien National Stakes and Phoenix Stakes in Ireland and the Dewhurst Stakes in England.

Air Force Blue retired with nine wins in four starts for earnings of $844,919.

St Mark’s Basilica’s First Book Shaping Up

Champion 3-year-old St Mark's Basilica (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) is preparing to stand his first season at Coolmore Stud next year for €65,000, and his book is already set to include a plethora of Group 1 winners and producers. Gold Cup winner Estimate (Ire) (Monsun {Ger}), Matron S. victress Fiesolana (Ire) (Aussie Rules), Prix Marcel Boussac winner Tiger Tanaka (Ire) (Clodovil {Ire}) and Moyglare Stud S. winner Cursory Glance (Distorted Humor) are among the Group 1 winners already booked into the five-time Group 1 winner, as well as Northern Farm's triple Argentine Group 1 winner Carta Embrujada (Arg) (Storm Embrujado {Arg}) and Wertheimer et Frere's champion 2-year-old and Group 1 producer Safari Queen (Arg) (Lode).

Oaks winner Talent (GB) (New Approach {Ire}), dam of the G1 Prix Jean Romanet runner-up Ambition (Ire), is already booked in, and Prudenzia (Ire), dam of Group 1 winners Chicquita (Ire) and Magic Wand (Ire), is one of eight mares booked by Ecurie des Monceaux. The dams of Grade/Group 1 winners Belvoir Bay (GB) (Equiano {Fr}), Laurens (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}), Pretty Gorgeous (Fr) (Lawman {Fr]), Time Warp (GB) (Archipenko), Glorious Forever (GB) (Archipenko), Harry Angel (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}), Rockemperor (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}), Subjectivist (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}), Sir Ron Priestley (GB) (Australia {GB}) and Shakeel (Fr) (Dalakhani {Ire}) are also set to visit St Mark's Basilica, the winner of last year's G1 Dewhurst S. and this year's G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains, G1 Prix du Jockey Club, G1 Coral-Eclipse S. and G1 Irish Champion S.

Mogul Joins Coolmore National Hunt Roster

Mogul (GB) (Galileo {Ire}-Shastye {Ire}, by Danehill), winner of the G2 KPMG Champions Juvenile S. at two and the G1 Grand Prix de Paris and G1 Hong Kong Vase at three, has been retired from racing and will enter stud at The Beeches Stud in 2022 under the Coolmore National Hunt banner. He will stand for €4,000.

Among those that Mogul beat in his top-level wins were the G1 Deutsches Derby scorer and G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe runner-up In Swoop (Ger), who he will stand alongside at The Beeches; G1 Epsom Derby winner Serpentine (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Hong Kong Horse of the Year Exultant (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}). A 3.4-million gns yearling, Mogul is out of Newsells Park Stud's excellent producer Shastye and is a full-brother to multiple Group 1 winner Japan (GB)-who goes to stud next year at Gestut Etzean-and the Group 2-winning and multiple Classic-placed Secret Gesture (GB).

“As you'd expect of a horse who cost 3.4-million gns as a yearling, Mogul is a very-impressive looking individual with a great walk and an outstanding pedigree,” said Robert McCarthy. “His dam has produced five black-type horses and there are six Group 1 winners under his first two dams. And of course, like Frankel, he's bred on that great Galileo/Danehill cross. We are very excited to have himself, In Swoop and Santiago all joining the Coolmore roster for 2022.”

Ambitious Schedule for Golden Pal to Include Trip to Australia

Coolmore and trainer Wesley Ward have started to put together a 2022 schedule for their star grass sprinter Golden Pal (Uncle Mo) and it's likely to include at least two trips abroad.

With an eye on showcasing the colt and future stallion to as many people as possible around the world, Coolmore is planning on running Golden Pal in the June 14 G1 King's Stand S. at Royal Ascot, as well as a yet-to-be-determined race in Australia.

Golden Pal has raced twice in Europe, finishing second in the 2020 G2 Norfolk S. and seventh in the 2021 G1 Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe S. at York. A trip to Australia would be a first for this year's GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint winner.

“The Americans think he's the best sprinter in the world,” Coolmore's Tom Magnier told RSN. “If they think Golden Pal is the best sprinter in the world, maybe we need to bring him here to Australia.”

“We are planning a schedule for next year and it will include a trip to Australia at some stage,” Ward added. “They want to open up the Southern Hemisphere market for him so far as a stallion goes. We will look into whatever races are available. The race in Australia will probably be after the Breeders' Cup. It's hard to plan a year out with a racehorse. But we do want to race in the Southern Hemisphere with this horse. If the boys from down under get to see him race and see how great a racehorse he is, that would open up a lot of doors.”

Ward said Golden Pal will begin his year in the GII Shakertown S. at Keeneland, which will serve as a prep for the King's Stand.

“A win there would open things up for him if they decide to make him a stallion at Coolmore in Ireland,” Ward said. “It would show that he could do it over there in Europe. He hasn't done that yet. He was second as a 2-year-old at Royal Ascot and faltered this year at York, for whatever reason.”

Ward also said that Golden Pal could have a dirt race at some point during his 2022 campaign. He has raced just once on the dirt, winning a 4 1/2-furlong race last year at Keeneland.

“To me, he's equally as good on the dirt as he is on the grass, so we're also going to be looking at possibly running him on the dirt after Ascot,” Ward said. “If he shows on the dirt what he has showed on the grass, it opens up another market for him as a stallion.”

Golden Pal's 4-year-old campaign is also set to include a return appearance in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint, which will be run at Keeneland.
