No Nay Never’s Deneuve Earns Rising Star Tag at Naas

Monday's Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at Naas was under the co-sponsorship of Coolmore's No Nay Never in 2017 and 2018, when Alpha Centauri (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) and Fairyland (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) launched their Group 1-laden careers by earning 'TDN Rising Star' status in the six-furlong contest, and this term's renewal went the way of Coolmore and Westerberg's Deneuve (Ire), a daughter of No Nay Never, who emulated those illustrious distaffers by digging deep for a debut success and a 'TDN Rising Star' of her own. The 13-8 favourite looked ready for the task beforehand and was well away to stalk the front two in a close third through halfway. Unflustered for the most part, she was nudged along passing the quarter-mile marker and exhibited a willing attitude, despite rolling around when quickening under late urging, to deny the tenacious pacesetter Comanche Country (Ire) (Highland Reel {Ire}) by a short head on the line. Her win was a fifth juvenile success, from just seven runners, for Aidan O'Brien.

“She's a grand filly and was babyish enough, but we haven't done an awful lot with her,” said the winning trainer. “She did plenty early, but had a little bit of a hold-up about six weeks ago and was only just ready to come racing today. We thought it was a lovely race for her. It was lovely ground, it's a lovely track and we thought the experience would do her good. Ryan [Moore] was very happy with her, he nursed her as best he could and felt there should be plenty of progress to come. We'll probably give her two to three weeks before she comes back. It will be interesting to see how much progress she does make. It's possible she could make plenty.”

Deneuve is the lone registered foal produced by MGSW G1 Phoenix S. third Actress (Ire) (Declaration of War), runner-up to Alpha Centauri in the 2017 renewal of this heat, who is a daughter of MGSW GI Spinaway S. second Nasty Storm (Gulch). Descendants of Nasty Storm, herself out of a multiple-winning half to MGSP sire Majesty's Imp (His Majesty), include last term's leading Italian juvenile filly and G2 Premio Dormello winner Atamisque (Ire) (Highland Reel {Ire}), GIII Santa Barbara S. victrix Causeforcommotion (Americain), G2 Gran Criterium third Amyntas (Ity) (Desert Prince {Ire}) and GIII Sweetest Chant S. third Born To Be Winner (Einstein {Brz}).

No Nay Never’s Aesop’s Fables Powers To TDN Rising Stardom at Navan

Aidan O'Brien's juvenile band is approaching full swing and the trainer's latest representative to hit the track, Coolmore and Westerberg's Aesop's Fables (Ire) (No Nay Never), earned 'TDN Rising Star' status with a taking debut display in Saturday's Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Navan. The 5 3/4-furlong dash was annexed last year by subsequent G3 Marble Hill S. runner-up, G2 Coventry S. fourth and G2 Railway S. third Masseto (GB) (Territories}) and Royal Ascot options abound for the half-brother to that meeting's Listed Windsor Castle S. hero Washington DC (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) following a 2 1/4-length defeat of Tanaiyla (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}). The 7-4 second favourite was sharply into stride from the outside stall to stalk the experienced 10-11 favourite Midnight Toker (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) in a close-up second through the early fractions. Nudged along at halfway, he came under increased urging once quickening to challenge passing the quarter-mile marker and found an additional gear inside the final furlong to go comfortably clear of his rivals.

“He's a very smart horse and has done all his homework very nicely,” commented Ballydoyle representative Chris Armstrong. “Aidan [O'Brien] was very happy with him and Ryan [Moore] has sat on him a few times and was very happy with him. We'll try and give him one run before [Royal] Ascot. It will either be in the valuable winners' race at Naas or there's a winners-of-one at the Curragh on June 1st. Then hopefully on to Ascot. Fingers crossed he is a very smart horse going forward. He's obviously from the family of Washington DC, who was a precocious 2-year-old, he's got plenty of options and is one you would love to have in your stable.”

Aesop's Fables is the latest of eight foals and sixth winner from as many runners produced by Listed Land O' Burns Fillies' S. third How's She Cuttin' (Ire) (Shinko Forest {Ire}), herself the leading performer out of a half-sister to the stakes-placed Escape Plan (Ire) (Key of Luck) and to the unraced dam of G3 Firth of Clyde S. victrix and G1 Cheveley Park S. runner-up Aspen Darlin (Ire) (Indian Haven {GB}). Hailing from the family of MG1SW sire Grand Lodge (Chief's Crown), the February-foaled bay is a half to G3 Phoenix Sprint S. victor and MG1SP sire Washington DC (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) and G3 Chester vase runner-up Sandhurst (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).

Uncle Mo Colt Summons $2.3M at OBS

A colt by Coolmore super sire Uncle Mo (Hip 206) inspired a furious round of bidding during the opening session of the OBS Spring Sale Tuesday, hammering for $2.3 million to bloodstock agent Gary Young, who was acting on behalf of Amr Zedan. Young did his bidding alongside Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, who will train the colt at the conclusion of his suspension. Coolmore was the underbidder on the bay colt. Consigned by Jimbo & Torie Gladwell's Top Line Sales, the :9 4/5 breezer, who is out of Borealis Night (Astrology), was purchased by Scott & Evan Dilworth for $250,000 at Keeneland September.
