Lemon Muffin Leads Longshot Exacta Home in Honeybee

In a 28-1 shocker, Lemon Muffin (f, 3, Collected–Pelt, by Canadian Frontier) ended her four-race runner-up streak to break her maiden, pick up her first black-type, and score her first Graded victory in the GIII Honeybee S. as well as take home 50 points toward the Kentucky Oaks trail.

Never far from the leaders while traveling comfortably in midpack, she launched her winning bid entering the lane, and despite contact with Tapit Jenallie (Tapit), kicked home to win with open air between them. A jockey's objection from the runner-up was quickly dismissed. West Omaha (West Coast) kept on to collect third.

With her victory here, it tallies as jockey Keith Asmussen's first career Graded stakes win as well as give conditioner D. Wayne Lukas the hat trick on the day.

Collected Colt Guts Out Front-Running Score In UAE Derby Pointer

Michael Hilary Burke and Negar Burke's KILLER COLLECT (c, 3, Collected–Comforter, by Nobiz Like Shobiz) was game to the end of the Listed Al Bastikiya Presented by Longines to fend off the persistent challenge of Auto Bahn (Arg) (Asiatic Boy {Arg}) to win by a neck. A pointer for the G2 UAE Derby at the end of March, the race featured the winner pressed by his chief foe in earnest by the time they reached the 400-metre mark. Those two eventually separated themselves by daylight from the chasing pack and slugged it out to the wire. At one point, it appeared Auto Bahn would grind by, but Killer Collect fought back, and undoubtedly benefitted from a 10-pound pull in the weights. Tactical Bound (Good Magic) wound up third, 5 1/2 lengths behind the top two at the wire. The final time for the 1900-metre distance over the fast dirt was 1:59.01. Sales history: $70,000 Ylg '22 KEEJAN; $75,000 Ylg '22 KEESEP; €55,556 RNA HRA '23 GOFMAR. Lifetime Record: 4-2-1-0, AED741,500.

Girvin and Upstart Lead the Way at Airdrie on 2024 Roster

Girvin, the sire of three graded stakes winners including GI winner Faiza, and Upstart, the sire of GI Bluegrass winner Zandon, will both stand for a stud fee of $30,000 at Airdrie Farm in Midway Kentucky for the 2024 season, Airdrie announced Wednesday.

“We couldn't be looking more forward to the 2024 season as we continue to build momentum in our stallion barn,” said Airdrie's Bret Jones. “We believe we have two very special stallions in Girvin and Upstart headlining our roster this year. Both have built their success from the ground up, and their ability to so dramatically improve their mares has earned the faith of the best breeders in the industry. They are both poised to continue to climb the ladder as leading young stallions.”

Girvin has been given a $5,000 bump for 2024, while Upstart's fee remains the same as his 2023 fee.

Cairo Prince will stand for $15,000, the same as his 2023 fee.

Cairo Prince has once again been the leading sire of his stallion crop and a Top 25 General and Juvenile Sire throughout the year,” said Jones. “He has long cemented his position as a hugely popular value stallion for both the sales ring and the racetrack.”

Collected, who currently has two crops on the track, will remain at $10,000.

“With his first crop just three-year-olds, Collected has already sired three individual Grade II stakes winners and six stakes winners in all,” Jones continued. “That is an incredibly strong resume for a young stallion in his price range and we believe his arrow will continue to point up in the year ahead. And we also believe Complexity ($12,500) has every chance to be next season's leading freshman sire. He was an immensely talented runner and his first-crop yearlings generated the type of buzz at the sales that foreshadows major success on the racetrack.”

“When combined with our new introductions of the last two years in Beau Liam, Happy Saver and Highly Motivated and the future retirement of Kentucky Derby winner Mage at the end of his racing career, these are very exciting times for our Airdrie Stud team. As always, we will be supporting our stallions with the full force of our broodmare band and look forward to working with our incredibly loyal breeders to whom we owe our success.”

The complete roster, with fees, is:

Girvin – $30,000

Upstart – $30,000

Cairo Prince – $15,000

Complexity – $12,500

Collected – $10,000

Happy Saver – $10,000

Highly Motivated – $7,500

Beau Liam – $6,000

Divisidero – $5,000

Preservationist – $5,000

Summer Front – $5,000

Half-Brother To Collected Another Uncle Mo Colt To Shine at KEESEP

Into Mischief was the undisputed star of the show on the first day of selling at Keeneland September, but Coolmore's Uncle Mo proved an able understudy, as his son of Helena Bay (GB) (Johannesburg) was knocked down to Donato Lanni, agent for Amr Zedan, for an even $2 million to become the day's top seller of his sex. Hip 154, a half-brother to 2014 KEESEP purchase and hot young sire Collected (City Zip), was bred by Runnymede Farm, Peter J. Callahan and Three Chimneys Farm. The Feb. 12 foal was consigned by Runnymede Farm. Zedan campaigns Uncle Mo's 3-year-old son 'TDN Rising Star' Arabian Knight, recent wire-to-wire winner of the GI Pacific Classic.
