Bolt d’Oro Colt Runs to the Money at Monmouth

MAJOR DUDE (c, 2, Bolt d'Oro–Mary Rita {SP}, by Distorted Humor) shipped down to the Jersey Shore following a series of drills at Todd Pletcher's Saratoga base, including a five-furlong bullet in 1:01 1/5 (1/5) over the Oklahoma training track June 3. He wasn't off to the sharpest of beginnings on debut and was scrubbed on early by John Velazquez. The 3-5 favorite chased from an inside fourth and was stuck in some traffic entering the far turn. Johnny V threaded the needle while splitting rivals at the top of the stretch and Major Dude took care of business from there to graduate by 3 3/4 lengths over Notah (Flatter). Pletcher-trained stablemate Delegated (Uncle Mo) was fourth. Major Dude becomes the fifth winner for his freshman sire (by Medaglia d'Oro). The $550,000 FTSAUG yearling is the co-second most expensive of 97 yearlings sold from the first crop of Bolt d'Oro. The stakes-placed Mary Rita, a $230,000 KEENOV purchase by Clearsky Farms while in foal to The Factor in 2016, produced a colt by Audible in 2021 and was bred back to Authentic. Into Mischief’s Wonder Wheel Rolls Home at First-Asking

WONDER WHEEL (f, 2, Into Mischief–Wonder Gal {MSW & MGISP, $904,800}, by Tiz Wonderful) was sent off the narrow 2-1 second choice in this unveiling but put in a gutsy, professional performance to graduate. Not the fastest off the break, Wonder Wheel tracked from fifth and quickly made up ground coming through the turn, her march carrying her four wide into the stretch. Second at the head of the lane, the $275,000 KEESEP grad confronted a stubborn 24-1 longshot in Black Forest (Frosted), but got the better of that one by the final sixteenth. There were 2 1/4 lengths between them on the wire. Wonder Wheel is the second foal and winner for her multiple Grade I-placed dam. Older half-sibling Road Bible (Pioneerof the Nile) was a $610,000 purchase from KEESEP 2019 by Steve Asmussen. Wonder Wheel's 2021 full-sibling was born dead and their dam was barren after visiting Constitution for this season. Grade 3 Winner Kingly Retired To Stand In Chile

Kingly, a Grade 3 winner and sibling to several fellow graded stakes winners, has been retired from racing, and he will enter stud at Haras Mocito Guapo in Chile, the South American publication Turf Diario reports.

The 5-year-old son of Tapit finished his career with three wins in 17 starts, earning $289,165. He was primarily owned by Clearview Stables, which rotated through a handful of partners throughout his time at the races.

Kingly started his on-track career in the barn of trainer Bob Baffert, winning on debut as a juvenile at Del Mar. He became a regular at Golden Gate Fields during the first part of his 3-year-old season, with a win in the listed California Derby, a second in the listed El Camino Real Derby, and a third in non-grade Alcatraz Stakes. The colt moved up to graded stakes competition when he returned to Southern California for the second half of his sophomore campaign, highlighted by a win in the Grade 3 La Jolla Handicap and a third-place effort in the G3 Los Alamitos Derby.

Kingly continued to compete in graded stakes races over the turf in southern California until late 2020, when he was moved to the barn of Mark Casse and raced at Woodbine and Turfway Park before his retirement.

Bred in Kentucky by Clearsky Farms, Kingly is out of the multiple Grade 2-winning Dixie Union mare Justwhistledixie. He is a full-brother to Grade 2 winner Mohaymen and Grade 3 winner Enforceable, and he's a half-brother to Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner New Year's Day. Grade 1 winner Got Stormy is in his extended family, along with Grade 2 winners Penny's Reshoot, Smooth Air, and Overdriven.

Kingly joins a stallion roster at Haras Mocito Guapo that includes State of Play, a Grade 2-winning son of War Front, and Grand Daddy, a son of Scat Daddy who won a stakes race at Turfway.
