Churchill Schedules Memorial For Doc Richardson On Oct. 2

A public memorial to celebrate the life of the late Dr. J. David “Doc” Richardson will be held Saturday (Oct. 2) at Churchill Downs.

Richardson, the distinguished Louisville surgeon who was an owner, breeder and widely-respected leader in the horse racing industry, died Sept. 7 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. from complications due to a breakthrough COVID infection. He was 76.

The celebration will take place Saturday from 2-4 p.m. (all times Eastern) in the Starting Gate Suites 4th Floor. Guests should enter Churchill Downs via the Executive Gate, which is located next to the Kentucky Derby Museum near the Barbaro horse statue.

Saturday's sixth race, which is scheduled to run at approximately 3:18 p.m., will be dedicated to “Doc” and the “J. David 'Doc' Richardson Celebration of Life” trophy will be presented to the winning connections.

Kentucky Derby Museum: Free Kids Admission During Fall Break

Kentucky Derby Museum, located at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., is offering a Fall Break deal where children 12 and under receive FREE general admission on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from September 29 – October 20. This window of time ensures all local school districts in the Greater Louisville area can participate – including southern Indiana schools.

Families will be able to enjoy a Historic Walking Tour of Churchill Downs; see “The Greatest Race,” the Museum's 360° media experience; and take part in a scavenger hunt. Guests can purchase lunch at the Derby Cafe Express and make it a fun day out for the entire family!

A parent or guardian must be present with children at all times. Adults and children 13+ will need to purchase a general admission ticket to enter. Groups of 5 or more children will be required to have 1 adult for every 5 children in the group.

Guests can go to DerbyMuseum.org/fallbreak to plan their visit. Tickets for parents, guardians, and students who are age 13+ may be purchased at the door or online. Children 12 and under get in for free at the door.

King Fury Gets 97 Brisnet Speed Rating For Bourbon Trail Win

Fern Circle Stable and Three Chimneys Farm's classy multiple stakes winner King Fury earned a stout 97 Brisnet speed rating for his scintillating 13-length victory Saturday in the first running of the $275,000 Bourbon Trail at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

Trained by Kenny McPeek, King Fury's final 1 3/16 clocking was 1:56.01, which was just .04 off the track record set by Idol last November.

Also on Saturday's card, Columbine Stable's Carribean Caper earned a 93 Brisnet speed rating for her six-length romp in the $275,000 Grade 3 Dogwood, and SAB Stable's Everett's Song earned a 93 Brisnet speed rating for his closing win in the $275,000 Harrods Creek.
