DUGAT (c, 2, Practical Joke–Untraveled, by Canadian Frontier) faces straight maidens for the first time at career start number three, having finished a good third in allowance company on debut in heavy ground at Kokura Aug. 14 ahead of a solid fourth in the G3 Kokura Nisai S. Sept. 5. The $190K OBS March breezer from the family of MGSW juvenile Salty Perfume (Salt Lake) tries the dirt for the first time with legend Yutaka Take at the controls and should be winning. JASPER KRONE (c, 2, Frosted–Fancy Kitten, by Kitten's Joy) opened his account at first asking with a front-running 1 3/4-length success going this distance at Niigata Aug. 21 (see below, gate 14). The chestnut is the first produce from his stakes-placed dam, a $10K purchase by Machmer Hall at the Fasig-Tipton February Sale in 2018. The dam of the dark bay, who defeated Charlatan (Speightstown)'s dam Authenticity (Quiet American) in the 2013 GI Ogden Phipps H., is a daughter of GSW Sue's Good News (Woodman), whose yearling Runhappy colt is cataloged as hip 1693 at Keeneland September. GENDARME (h, 6, Kitten's Joy–Believe {Jpn}, by Sunday Silence), a Group 3 winner as a juvenile over a mile and Group 1-placed at 10 furlongs, has been reinvented as a turf sprinter and has adapted well to it, finishing third in the 1400-meter G3 Hankyu Hai this past February before earning a fourth career black-type success in a listed event over six panels in April. Koji Maeda's homebred is a son of champion Believe, the dam of SW & MGSP Faridat (Kingmambo) and of SW/GSP Fiducia (Medaglia d'Oro), whose son Gran Aplauso (Gun Runner) was a debut winner in June but is now sidelined via injury. In this continuing series, we take a look ahead at US-bred and/or conceived runners entered for the upcoming weekend at the tracks on the Japan Racing Association circuit, with a focus on pedigree and/or performance in the sales ring. Here are the horses of interest for Sunday running at Chukyo Racecourse, including the return of last-out Group 3 winner Shivaji (First Samurai). Over at Tokyo, a field of 17 is set for the world's richest Derby, the G1 Tokyo Yushun, headed by the undefeated Efforia (Jpn) (Epiphaneia {Jpn}):

PRECIOUS GOLD (f, 3, Speightstown–Pressurizing, by Henrythenavigator) debuts in the Sunday Racing colors and was acquired in utero after her dam was led out unsold on a bid of $875K at the 2017 Fasig-Tipton November Sale. Pressurizing is a daughter of Vertigineux (Kris S.), the dam of Horse of the Year and three-time Eclipse Award winner Zenyatta (Street Cry {Ire}); MGISW Balance (Thunder Gulch); and Where's Bailey (Aljabr), the stakes-winning dam of MGSW She's Not Here (Street Cry {Ire}). Precious Gold's year-older full-sister Precious Girl was sold for $375K at the same FTKNOV sale and is a winner in Japan. B-Northern Farm (KY)

10th-CKO, Azuchijo S.-Listed, ¥47.6m ($437k), 4yo/up, 1400mT
SHIVAJI (h, 6, First Samurai–Indian Bay, by Indian Charlie), a $90K Keeneland September yearling that blossomed into a $540K OBS April juvenile, has amassed an excellent record of 6-5-3 and has banked better than $1.7 million from 22 Japanese starts, the nine most recent of which have come on the turf and capped by a 1 1/4-length success in the G3 Silk Road S. at this venue Jan. 31 (see below, gate 13). The 6-year-old is out of a daughter of GSW Buy the Barrel (E Dubai), the dam of English GSP Mise En Rose (War Front) and MSP Stave (Ghostzapper). B-Hinkle Farms (KY)

In this continuing series, we take a look ahead at US-bred and/or conceived runners entered for the upcoming weekend at the tracks on the Japan Racing Association circuit, with a focus on pedigree and/or performance in the sales ring. Plenty of activity this weekend, so we'll begin with Saturday's runners at Tokyo and Chukyo, where the promising Careerism (Upstart) will try to build on an impressive maiden victory from three weeks ago:

4th-CKO, ¥9,680,000 ($88k), Maiden, 3yo, 1400mT
ROARING (f, 3, California Chrome–Warbling, by Unbridled's Song) looks to become the fourth winner from five to race for her dam, winner of the 2010 GII Inside Information S. and placed in the GI Princess Rooney H. and GI Ballerina S. before fetching $1.1 million at Fasig-Tipton November that fall. Warbling's stakes-winning full-sister Arianna's Passion is the dam of MSW & MGSP Distorted Passion (Distorted Humor). Roaring was a $260K purchase at Keeneland September in 2019. 6th-CKO, ¥13,830,000 ($126k), Allowance, 3yo, 1800m
CAREERISM (c, 3, Upstart–Out of Goodbyes, by Out of Place) ran too good to lose in finishing runner-up in each of his first two trips to the post over the winter and most recently overcame a bit of a slow start from a double-digit gate to graduate by seven lengths over this track and distance in strong time May 8 (see below, gate 14). An $85K FTKNOV weanling purchase, the February foal fetched $120K at FTKJUL in 2019 and $200K as an OBS March breezer last year. Yuichi Fukunaga has a return call. B-Golden Pedigree LLC (KY)

MYTYL (f, 4, Verrazano–Blue Bird Lady, by Congrats) was perfect in two starts going this distance last term, winning her maiden impressively at first asking over this track in February (see below, gate 1) before overcoming an impossible trip to take a one-win class allowance (N1X) from a high draw at Hanshin in June (video, gate 14). A $100K KEENOV weanling and $130K OBSMAR juvenile, Mytyl is out of an unraced half-sister to SW Yes She's A Lady (Yes It's True) and the further female family includes MGISW Pure Clan (Pure Prize), the dam of SW & GSP Princesa Carolina (Tapit); and MGSW Greater Good (Intidab).
