Mark Casse sent out Mrs. Barbara in search of her first stakes win in the Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario. After finishing third in the Catch a Glimpse and fourth in the G1 Natalma, the daughter of Bodemeister broke through in the G3 stakes, rallying in the stretch to win by a half-length.
On a snowy Toronto day, the field of nine broke evenly on the all-weather course at Woodbine, Chocolateaddiction showing her head in front first. Around the first turn, Chocolateaddiction had a half-length lead over Kanta with Guileful and Aubrieta stalking. Jockey Rafael Hernandez kept Mrs. Barbara on the rail down the backstretch, moving up to the outside on the far turn to find a clear running lane.
Out of the far turn, the field caught up to Chocolateaddiction, with Moira sneaking through between horses on the rail as Mrs. Barbara was set down to a drive in the center of the track. Mrs. Barbara was able to take over inside the final sixteenth, Moira unable to catch her in those final strides. At the wire, Mrs. Barbara had a half-length advantage over Moira, with Guileful third. Souper Hoity Toity, Sake, Queen Judith, Kanta, Chocolateaddiction, and Aubrieta rounded out the order of finish.
The final time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:44.64. Find this race's chart here.
Mrs. Barbara paid $11.20, $4.10, and $3.40. Moira paid $3.10 and $2.80. Guileful paid $10.20.
Bred in Kentucky by Jim Dandy Stable, Mrs. Barbara is out of the Housebuster mare Destroy. She is owned by Spruce Stable. Her win in the G3 Mazarine is her second win in six starts, with career earnings of $144,809.
