Mayson On The Move

Mayson (GB) has been sold to his part-owner and breeder David Armstrong and will leave Cheveley Park Stud after completing 11 breeding seasons.

The 15-year-old son of Invincible Spirit (Ire) is out of the Pivotal (GB) mare Mayleaf (GB) and won five of his 18 starts for Richard Fahey, including the G1 July Cup and G3 Palace House S., as well as being beaten just a neck when second in the G1 Prix de l'Abbaye. At stud, he has been represented by the G1 King's Stand S. and July Cup winner Oxted (GB) and the G2 Sandy Lane S. winner Rohaan (Ire) among 28 black-type winners and a host of decent sprinters.

Chris Richardson, managing director of Cheveley Park Stud, said, “It has been a wonderful partnership between Cheveley Park Stud and David and Emma Armstrong. However, we feel Mayson could now benefit from a change of scenery. His success rate of winners to runners remains solid and we wish Mayson continued success in the future.”

Future stud plans for Mayson are yet to be decided by the Armstrong family.

Order Of Australia One Of The Highlights Of The Tattersalls July Sale Catalogue

The 961-strong Tattersalls July Sale catalogue, featuring GI Breeders' Cup Mile winner Order Of Australia (Ire) (Australia {GB}), is now online. Set for July 11-14, the catalogue is divided between 947 horses and fillies in/out of training and 114 broodmares, six of which have foals at foot.

Consigned as lot 236 as part of The Castlebridge Consignment, the 6-year-old entire is a half-brother to multiple Group/Grade 1 winners Iridessa (Ire) (Ruler Of The World {Ire}) and Santa Barbara (Ire) (Camelot {GB}).

Large drafts from Cheveley Park Stud, Godolphin, Juddmonte, and Shadwell–with the latter consigning through Barton Sales–have 108 lots between them. Of the broodmare portion of the sale, the 114 lots are in foal to a variety of sires like Churchill (Ire), Cracksman (GB), Dandy Man (Ire), Dream Ahead, Kodiac (GB), Mehmas (Ire), Nathaniel (Ire), Saxon Warrior (Jpn), Sea the Moon (Ger), Showcasing (GB), Sir Percy (GB), Starspangledbanner (Aus), Teofilo (Ire) and Wootton Bassett (GB).

Godolphin's 59 lots are led by G1 Fillies' Mile winner White Moonstone (Dynaformer) (lot 154) in foal to Teofilo (Ire); Shadwell's Qaafeya (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}) (lot 193), herself a daughter of Tanaghum (GB) (Darshaan {GB}), dam of Group 1 winner Matterhorn (Ire) (Raven's Pass) and five further group/listed performers including G2 Dante S. hero The Foxes (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}) is in foal to Ghaiyyath (Ire); while Juddmonte consigns  Source (GB) (Kingman {GB}) (lot 782), a full-sister to Grade I-placed Masen (GB) out of a daughter of dual Grade I winner Intercontinental (GB) (Danehill) as one of their 18 lots. Cheveley Park offers Sylvia Beach (GB) (Ulysses {Ire}) (lot 178) a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Advertise (GB) in foal to his sire Showcasing (GB).

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said, “The Tattersalls July Sale has an extraordinary record not only for producing high-class horses in training, but also broodmares of the very highest quality on the international stage. The dam of leading Australian 3-year-old filly Amelia's Jewel (Aus) (Siyouni {Fr}) is the latest example of the quality to be found at the sale, and this year's Tattersalls July catalogue features the usual compelling combination of well-bred fillies and in foal mares, high-class horses in training and significant consignments from leading owner-breeders, all of which look set to attract plenty of interest from domestic and international buyers alike.”

Cheveley Park Stud’s Sacred Powers To Chartwell Triumph

Cheveley Park Stud's Sacred (GB) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}–Sacre Caroline, by Blame) had failed in three prior attempts at Group 1 level, but top-table options remain open after she collected a third pattern-race triumph in Saturday's recalibrated G3 Fitzdares Chartwell Fillies' S. at Lingfield.

She was making her first start on a synthetic surface here and 2021's G3 Nell Gwyn S. and G2 Hungerford S. victrix returned to action for this seven-furlong heat coming back off a second over the same trip in October's G2 Challenge S. at Newmarket.

Sacred went postward as the well-backed 13-8 favourite and was steadied to employ patient tactics in rear after an alert getaway. Shaken up to close into the short home straight, she quickened in impressive fashion to pounce out wide with 100 yards remaining and powered clear in style from there, hitting the line strong and 2 1/4 lengths clear of familiar rival Sandrine (GB) (Bobby's Kitten).

“We've kept her in training to try to win a Group 1 with her, remembering she was only beaten a length in the Jubilee last year,” explained Cheveley Park's Max McLoughlin. “She's a high-class filly and a Group 2 winner, and it was great to see her do it so impressively. She will go to [Royal] Ascot and could have another crack at the [G1] Jubilee. She's also in the Duke of Edinburgh.”

Ryan Moore, having notched a second win in the race, added, “She's a lovely filly who has won multiple Group races, and the all-weather round here suited her. She quickened up very well and I was impressed with her.”

Pedigree Notes
Sacred is the first of five foals and one of two winners from three runners out of a winning half-sister to MGISW US champion distaffer Lady Eli (Divine Park), GIII Regret S. and GIII Mint Julep H. victrix Bizzy Caroline (Afleet Alex) and GIII Jimmy Durante third Princesa Caroline (American Pharoah). The April-foaled bay is a half-sister to the unraced 2-year-old colt Joycean Way (GB) (Ulysses {Ire}) and a yearling filly by Frankel (GB). Descendants of her third dam Kazadancoa (Fr) (Green Dancer) include MGISW distaffer Spiced Perfection (Smiling Tiger), G1 Racing Post Trophy-winning sire Palace Episode (Machiavellian), GISW Canadian champion Spring In The Air (Spring At Last) and GI Spinaway S. winner Sweet Loretta (Tapit).
