Fairytale Continues For Shamardal’s Undefeated Cinderella’s Dream In Jumeirah Fillies’ Classic

3rd-Meydan, AED500,000, Cond., 2-2, NH & SH 3yo, f, 1400mT, 1:23.27, gd.
Godolphin's CINDERELLA'S DREAM (GB) (f, 3, Shamardal–Espadrille {GB}, by Dubawi {Ire}) made it three on the bounce with a fine closing effort in the Jumeirah Fillies' Classic Presented By Lincoln Aviator. She defeated stablemate Beautiful Love (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) by 2 3/4 lengths and won without being extended. The final time for the 1400m over the good turf was 1:23.27. Rated near the rear of the field for much of the race, the filly was wound up by William Buick and steered farther out into the course for the stretch drive. Once a gap appearance, she glided right by her rivals, including the stretch leader Frost At Dawn (Frosted). Beautiful Love also found more to take second, but was never catching the winner. Frost At Dawn was another 1 3/4 lengths back in third. “She was there for me the whole way,” said Buick. “She's still learning on the job as she'd only had two previous starts. It was a good performance from a filly who I think is progressive. Mawj (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) won this last year and went on to win the [G1 QIPCO 1000] Guineas, so she's in good company and I wouldn't want to rule anything out.” A winner of her maiden on debut at Lingfield last May, the bay triumphed at Thirsk over 1500 metres in September. The second foal for her two-time winning dam, Cinderella's Dream's latest half-sibling is a 2-year-old filly by Farhh (GB). Picked up by Godolphin for 800,000gns as a weanling during the 2015 Tattersalls December Foal Sale, Espadrille Is a daughter of High Heeled (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}), who won the G3 St. Simon S. and placed third in both the G1 Oaks and G1 Coronation Cup. Lifetime Record: 3-3-0-0, AED339,166. Click for the ERA chart and video.

Trevaunance A First Moyglare Runner In Dubai On Friday

Friday's Meydan card is anchored by the AED700,000 G3 Dubai Millennium S. over 2000 metres on grass, and Jessica Harrington sends out Group 2 heroine Trevaunance (Ire) (Muhaarar {GB}) to face the boys, which includes a strong challenge by Godolphin.

The first runner for Moyglare Stud in the UAE, the G2 Prix de la Nonette winner ran second to India (Ger) (Adlerflug {Ger}) in the G1 Preis von Europa last out at Cologne in September. She carries only 121 pounds in the eight-horse field, anywhere from three to six pounds less than her rivals.

“Trevaunance has travelled over to Dubai very well and Zara, her rider, has been delighted with her,” said Kate Harrington, the trainer's daughter and assistant. “Shane [Foley, jockey] sat on her this morning [Wednesday] and was very happy with how she was.”

G3 Gordon S. winner New London (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), who has been gelded since running second at listed level in September, and Bahraini stakes winner Warren Point (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) are ridden by William Buick and Michael Barzalona, respectively.

“We are hoping that dropping back to a mile and a quarter is going to suit New London,” said trainer Charlie Appleby of the Godolphin pair. “This race has always been the plan for him and, if you take the best of his 3-year-old form, he looks a serious contender.

“Warren Point proved what he could do in Bahrain and Qatar last year. He has wintered out in Dubai for a couple of years without actually running at Meydan, but I think the trip and track will suit.”

Supporting Cast Anchored By Dubai Sprint

The AED500,000 Listed Dubai Sprint attracted a strong field of 14, and 2022 GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Mischief Magic (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) returns after running fourth in the Listed Ertijaal Dubai Dash in December.

“Mischief Magic came out of the Ertijaal Dubai Dash well and coming back to six furlongs should play to his strengths,” said trainer Charlie Appleby of the Godolphin runner.

The one-for-one Nadelia (Fr) (Spanish Moon) will attempt to emulate subsequent dual top-level scorer and G1 1000 Guineas heroine Mawj (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) in the Jumeirah Fillies' Classic. In the male equivalent, the Jumeirah Guineas also over 1400 metres of turf, Team Valor International's Shamrock Glitter (Fr) (Shalaa {Ire}) squares off against Godolphin's Legend Of Time (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) once more after running second to that foe at the beginning of January over this course and distance.

“She's a [half-]sister to [Group 1 winner] King Gold (Fr) (Anodin {Ire}) and we do like her, that's why we've brought her to Dubai,” said assistant trainer Marine Henry of Nadelia, who is trained by her husband, Nicolas Caullery. “She did a piece of work really well last week and we're looking forward to her race.”

Another Group 1 Winner For Frankel As Measured Time Brings Up Jebel Hatta

Fresh off seeing his Inspiral (GB) named the 2023 Eclipse Champion Turf Female, the success kept coming for Juddmonte's Frankel (GB), as his MEASURED TIME (GB) (c, 4, out of Minidress {GB}, by Street Cry {Ire}) surged to a good-looking victory in the G1 Jebel Hatta Presented by Longines at Meydan Racecourse on Friday. It was the 34th worldwide top-level winner for Frankel. Godolphin and trainer Charlie Appleby were winning their third group race of the evening after half-siblings Mysterious Night (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) and Star Of Mystery (GB) (Kodiac {GB}) won the G2 Al Fahidi Fort and G2 Blue Point Sprint, respectively, earlier on the card.

The pick of William Buick despite the presence of G1 1000 Guineas heroine Mawj (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}), the 4-year-old perched just one off and one back of that rival's shoulder for much of the Jebel Hatta's 1800-metre trip. The duo tracked fellow Godolphin runner Highland Avenue (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) for the duration, who at one point had as many as eight lengths on the field. Buick gave Measured Time his cue in upper stretch, and he soon reeled in Highland Avenue, before striding out a 1 3/4-length winner. The fourth Godolphin runner in the nine-strong field, Ottoman Fleet (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) unleashed a strong late burst to take second, three-quarters of a length in front of G2 Zabeel Mile winner San Donato (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) in third. Mawj received a check near the furlong pole and dropped out of the race to finish tailed off. The final time for the 1800 metres over good turf was 1:47.89. The winner is a half-brother to GI Breeders' Cup Turf winner Rebel's Romance (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}).

Kodiac Filly Unleashes Scintillating Turn Of Foot To Stun G2 Blue Point Sprint Foes

Just two races after her half-brother Mysterious Night (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) won the G2 Al Fahidi Fort, Godolphin's 'TDN Rising Star' STAR OF MYSTERY (GB) (f, 3, Kodiac {GB}–Mistrusting {Ire}, by Shamardal) picked up strongly in the closing stages to take the AED850,000 G2 Blue Point Sprint by 1 3/4 lengths. Her case had looked fairly hopeless for much of the 1000-metre turf sprint as she raced near the tail of the field, but Mickael Barzalona steered his charge up in between horses and her finishing kick was so potent she made up several lengths in the final 100 metres to win going away. Ponntos (Ire) (Power {GB}) ran second, with Tajalla (Ire) (Kessaar {Ire}) a neck back in third. The final time for the race was a sharp :56.14. Lifetime Record: 7-4-0-0.
