Inaugural Barney Curley Charity Cup To Be Held At Bellewstown

The first edition of the Barney Curley Charity Cup will take place at Bellewstown Racecourse on Wednesday, Sept. 28. This event follows on from the Barney Curley race day at the course last September that raised over €100,000 for the late Curley's charity Direct Aid For Africa (DAFA). Jockey Frankie Dettori and trainer Willie Mullins have been named captains of two teams of seven riders that will go head-to-head over two races. The event is sponsored by Gannon City Recovery & Recycling Services Limited and The Gallagher Group. Points will be awarded to the first eight placed horses on a scale of 15, 12, 10, 8, 7,6, 5, 4 and the team that accumulates the highest number of points across the two races in the challenge will be deemed the winner of the Barney Curley Charity Cup. Great Racing Welfare Cycle Challenge Revealed

The Great Racing Welfare Cycle Challenge will begin at noon on July 16 and last until noon the following day. The cycling event will raise funds for Racing Welfare, with 20 teams of four participating. This challenge sees two people cycling on the route in a 30km-loop, while the other two team members rest at the 'Riders Camp' at Cheltenham Racecourse.

Among those saddling up are former champion jockeys Sir AP McCoy, Richard Johnson, Harry Skelton and Oisin Murphy. Trainer Ben Pauling is fielding two teams, while racing broadcasters Sean Boyce, Vanessa Ryle and Rosie Tapner are also teaming up for Sky Sports. There are also four key sponsors that are supporting the challenge: The Jockey Club, Tattersalls, Unibet and The Racehorse Lotto. The sponsors have agreed to donate 25p to Racing Welfare for all the miles achieved by each team.

At the end of the challenge, the fundraising target is £60,000. A number of 'money can't buy' auction lots have also been donated to support the challengers to meet their fundraising target which you can bid on here. Alternatively, you can text GRWC and the amount you wish to donate to 70450 (eg. GRWC5 GRWC10 GRWC50 etc) to support all those taking part.

Kentucky Race Track Chaplaincy ‘Tees Off’ for Charity

The Kentucky Race Track Chaplaincy will hit the course at the Frankfort Country Club June 27 to raise funds to help continue their mission to minister to the fundamental and spiritual needs of horsemen and women at Kentucky and Southern Ohio racetracks. The golf course is heralded as one of the best in Kentucky and has played host to several events including the Daniel Boone Invitational and the PGA Jr. League.

The $125 entry fee includes the green fee, a golf cart, goodie bag, food and beverages, and door prizes. It is a 2 p.m. shotgun start. Sponsorships are still available for the event. ARC Middleham Open Day A Success

The ARC Middleham Open Day returned after a two-year Covid-19 hiatus on Apr. 15, and over 3,500 people attended. The charity event raised approximately £30,000 for Racing Welfare, with visitors able to visit yards, as well as observe horses training and swim or work on a water treadmill. In 2021, Racing Welfare provided 1,261 instances of support to 149 beneficiaries in the Middleham area.

Chief Executive of Racing Welfare, Dawn Goodfellow said, “It was fantastic to be back for ARC Middleham Open Day after two years due to the pandemic. We're incredibly grateful to all of the trainers and stable staff who so generously welcomed the public to their yards and provided a great day out for all who attended.”
