Justify Filly Powers To TDN Rising Stardom At Chantilly

France Galop has boosted a series of 21 premium races for unraced 2-year-olds with increased prizemoney and the first such event, Tuesday's €50,000 Prix du Premier Pas at Chantilly, was bolstered by a 'TDN Rising Star' performance from Christopher Head incumbent Ramatuelle (Justify–Raven's Lady {GB}, by Raven's Pass), a €100,000 Arqana August purchase, who debuted with a stunning display in the straight five-furlong test.

Ramatuelle, sporting the Infinity Nine Horses silks, broke well from an outer stall and raced prominently throughout. Looming large on the bridle approaching the final furlong, the 23-10 favourite was not for catching once hitting the front soon after and powered clear in impressive fashion to easily outclass Dubai Hills (GB) (Adaay {Ire}) by 4 1/2 lengths. She becomes the fifth 'TDN Rising Star' for Justify (Scat Daddy), whose roll of honour includes unbeaten G2 Airlie Stud S. heroine Statuette.

“At this stage she is much more forward than most of my other 2-year-olds,” the winning trainer commented. “She has been working well at home and looks like a nice sort with a future.”

Ramatuelle, half to a yearling filly by Uncle Mo, is the first of two foals produced by G2 Goldene Peitsche and G3 Summer S. victrix Raven's Lady (GB) (Raven's Pass), herself out of an unraced half to G1 Prix d'Ispahan-winning sire Best Of The Bests (Ire) (Machiavellian), G2 Dante S. third Dunhill Star (Ire) (Danehill) and the dam of MGSW G1 Melbourne Cup runner-up Prince Of Arran (GB) (Shirocco {Ger}). The February-foaled chestnut's third dam, G3 Fred Darling S. winner Sueboog (Ire) (Darshaan {GB}), is a half-sister to the dam of GSW G1 Grand Prix de Paris and G1 Prix Jean Prat runner-up Shaanmer (Ire) (Darshaan {GB}) and stakes-winning GI Garden City Breeders' Cup H. second Nordican Inch (GB) (Inchinor {GB}).

Justify Filly Goes Two-For-Two With Chantilly Triumph

Prime Equestrian's €150,000 Arqana August graduate Secretive (Fr) (Justify–Media Mischief, by Into Mischief) backed up a debut success at Deauville last November with a comfortable three-length tally on sophomore return in Monday's Prix du Chateau over one mile at Chantilly. The daughter of $550,000 Keeneland November mare Media Mischief (Into Mischief) is entered in both May 14 G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and June 18 G1 Prix de Diane, with trainer Yann Barberot stating the former is on the agenda after taking in one more run next month.

2nd-Chantilly, €28,000, Cond, 3-13, 3yo, f, 8f (AWT), 1:41.67, st.
SECRETIVE (FR) (f, 3, Justify–Media Mischief, by Into Mischief), a €150,000 Arqana August yearling who accounted for a trio of subsequent winners when annexing her Nov. 29 unveiling over 7 1/2 furlongs at Deauville in her only prior start, was swiftly into stride and accepted a tow in a comfortable second for most of this sophomore bow. Inching ahead at the quarter-mile pole, the 1-2 favourite was shaken up passing the furlong marker and kept on impressively under mild coaxing in the closing stages to easily defeat Dark Zel (Fr) (Zelzal {Fr}) by three lengths. “I am delighted to see her win so nicely as she is one of my best fillies at home,” reflected trainer Yann Barberot. “The form of her first race is very strong and she had come to hand nicely this last week, but she is not yet at her peak and will come on for that. The plan is one more start in April before going for the [May 14 G1] Poule d'Essai des Pouliches [at ParisLongchamp].” Secretive, who also boasts an engagement in this track's June 18 G1 Prix de Diane, is the second foal and scorer produced by a daughter of GII Buena Vista H. and G3 Prix du Bois winner Media Nox (GB) (Lycius), herself kin to three stakes performers headed by MGSW G2 Prix de Malleret victrix Bonash (GB) (Rainbow Quest). Media Nox also threw three pattern-race winners, headed by G1 Prix de Diane and G1 Prix du Moulin heroine Nebraska Tornado (Storm Cat), and her descendants feature last term's G1 Irish Derby victor Westover (GB) (Frankel {GB}). The February-foaled bay's dam Media Mischief was a lucrative proposition in the sales ring and changed hands for 250,000gns at Tattersalls' 2017 December Mares and $450,000 at Keeneland's 2019 January Mixed sale. She was also a $475,000 RNA at the 2018 Keeneland November Foals and Mares sale. China Horse Club International forked out $550,000 for her, carrying Secretive, at the following year's fixture while her 2019 filly Vaccine Of Hope (Pioneerof the Nile), herself a $260,000 Keeneland September graduate, notched two wins in 2022. Unfortunately, her 2021 colt by Siyouni (Fr) died last year. Sales history: €150,000 Ylg '21 ARQAUG. Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, €27,500. Video, sponsored by TVG.

War Front’s Ancient Rome Returns In Style At Chantilly

Coolmore and Westerberg's dual Group 1-placed 4-year-old colt Ancient Rome (War Front–Gagnoa {Ire}, by Sadler's Wells) returns off a ninth in June's G1 Prix du Jockey Club when last seen and registers a stylish comeback win at Chantilly in his first start for over nine months.

6th-Chantilly, €18,000, Cond, 3-7, 4yo, 9f (AWT), 1:50.78, st.
ANCIENT ROME (c, 4, War Front–Gagnoa {Ire} {MGSW & MG1SP-Fr, G1SP-Ire, $597,492}, by Sadler's Wells) snagged the G3 Prix des Chenes and placed in the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere and G1 Criterium International as a juvenile, but had not been seen since running ninth in last June's G1 Prix du Jockey Club on the turf here. Lope De Vega’s Algolia Powers To TDN Rising Stardom At Chantilly

Andre Fabre's team has hit the ground running as winter slowly transitions to spring and the veteran maestro unleashed G1 Prix de Diane entry Algolia (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}–Viva Rafaela {Brz}, by Know Heights {Ire}) to claim 'TDN Rising Stardom' with a scintillating performance in Tuesday's Prix du Soissonnais over one mile at Chantilly.

Her victory was the middle leg of a Fabre hat-trick on the card, the trainer also successful with the dual Group 1-placed Ancient Rome (War Front) coming back off a nine-month break and capping a treble initiated by Swing Vote (GB) (Shamardal) in the colts' and geldings' division of the one-mile maiden. Fabre is also responsible for Europe's first Rising Star of the year, Pensee Du Jour (Ire) (Camelot {GB}), who impressed on debut at the same venue last month. The stable's thermostat is set to hot and running at over 40% with 13 wins from 32 attempts this year.

The 3-1 second choice broke smartly from the outside stall and stalked the tempo in a close second for most of this debutantes' heat. Nudged along to seize control passing the quarter-mile pole, she quickened clear approaching the final furlong and powered further away from stablemate Firyali (GB) (New Bay {GB}) in the closing stages to hit the line with an impressive five-length buffer, becoming the 10th Rising Star for her sire (by Shamardal). Lope De Vega's 'Rising Star' roll of honour also features GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and GI Just A Game heroine Newspaperofrecord (Ire), National Stud resident Lope Y Fernandez (Ire), who placed five times at the highest level, and another GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf victrix in Aunt Pearl (Ire).

Algolia is the fifth foal and scorer produced by G1 Grande Premio Diana (Brazilian Oaks) heroine and GI Flower Bowl third Viva Rafaela (Brz) (Know Heights {Ire}), herself a daughter of G1 Grande Premio Marciano de Aguiar Moreira victrix Linda Rafaela (Brz) (Bin Ajwaad {Ire}). The April-foaled homebred chestnut is a half-sister to last term's Listed Prix Charles Laffitte scorer Babala (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}). Viva Rafaela, whose family features a swathe of Brazilian elite-level performers, is kin to the Group 1-placed duo Baby Go Far (Brz) (Elusive Quality) and Unique Zuca (Brz) (Northern Afleet). The latter threw GSW G1 Grande Premio Cruzeiro do Sul runner-up Galaxy Runner (Brz) (Drosselmeyer) while another half-sister, Awesome Rafaela (Brz) (Elusive Quality), is the dam of GII Edgewood S. victrix New Year's Eve (Kitten's Joy).
