Celebration Of Life For Herbener To Be Held At Fasig-Tipton

A celebration of life for Kentucky horseman James M. Herbener, Jr. will be held in Fasig-Tipton's Lexington, Ky., sales pavilion this coming Saturday, Oct. 23.

The celebration of life will begin at 5 p.m., and will be immediately followed by a reception in the pavilion's upstairs bar. All those that wish to celebrate the life of Jim are welcome to attend.

Churchill Schedules Memorial For Doc Richardson On Oct. 2

A public memorial to celebrate the life of the late Dr. J. David “Doc” Richardson will be held Saturday (Oct. 2) at Churchill Downs.

Richardson, the distinguished Louisville surgeon who was an owner, breeder and widely-respected leader in the horse racing industry, died Sept. 7 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. from complications due to a breakthrough COVID infection. He was 76.

The celebration will take place Saturday from 2-4 p.m. (all times Eastern) in the Starting Gate Suites 4th Floor. Guests should enter Churchill Downs via the Executive Gate, which is located next to the Kentucky Derby Museum near the Barbaro horse statue.

Saturday's sixth race, which is scheduled to run at approximately 3:18 p.m., will be dedicated to “Doc” and the “J. David 'Doc' Richardson Celebration of Life” trophy will be presented to the winning connections.

Celebration of Life for Recio at Keeneland Oct. 1

In lieu of a funeral, a Celebration of Life for Mike Recio will be held at the Thoroughbred Club of America next to Keeneland on Friday, Oct. 1, from 6:30-9:00pm. Everyone who was a friend, family, business associate, etc., is invited to come tell some stories, and celebrate his life. Food and drinks will be served. Bloodstock agent and consignor Mike Recio passed away Sept. 16, at the age of 46 after battling sepsis.

The son of respected Ocala horseman Bill Recio, he had been involved in the Thoroughbred racing and breeding industry for the majority of his life. He leaves behind his wife Nancy, his twins Wesley and Addison, whom he adored, his mother Lynn and father Bill, as well as his brother Gene, sister Katie Cauthen, brother-in-law Doug Cauthen, and niece Campbell Cauthen.
