416 Entries Set for Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale

A total of 416 entries have been received for the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale to be held at the auction house's Newtown Paddocks complex Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 5 and 6, 2024. Bidding begins each morning at 10 a.m. ET.

The first 300 horses will be offered during the Monday session, while hips 301 and through the conclusion of the supplemental catalogue will sell Tuesday.

“Positioned right before the start of breeding season, Kentucky Winter Mixed annually offers a healthy and active marketplace,” said Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning. “We have an attractive group of racing and broodmare prospects catalogued, and good quality and depth among the covering sire and yearling sire ranks.”

Entries remain open for the supplemental catalogue and Fasig-Tipton will accept additional entries over the next few weeks.

“We have a good number of supplemental entries already in the pipeline and we encourage sellers to consider additional entries- especially horses with a significant pedigree or racing update in the coming weeks,” noted Browning.

The Winter Mixed Catalogue is available for viewing online. Print catalogues will be available beginning Jan. 15 and the catalogue will also be available via the Equineline sales catalogue app.

OBS March Catalog Online

The catalog for the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training is now available at the OBS website at www.obssales.com.

The 2023 iteration of the March Sale has been lengthened to three days and will take place Monday through Wednesday, Mar. 20-22, with sessions beginning at 11 a.m. daily. Hips 1-278 will be offered Mar. 20, Hips 279-566 on Mar. 21 and hips 567 through 833 on Mar. 22.

Under-tack previews will take place over the course of four days, Mar. 14 (hips 1-208), Mar. 15 (209-416), Mar. 16 (417-624) and Mar. 17 (625-833). All breeze shows are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and will be streamed live at the TDN website.

The March Sale cover is graced by 2019 graduate Cafe Pharoah (American Pharoah), back-to-back winner of the G1 February S. and currently among the probables for the $20-million G1 Saudi Cup Feb. 25. The half-brother to recently crowned champion turf female Regal Glory (Animal Kingdom) sold for $475,000 and has amassed earnings north of $3.4 million with seven wins–six in black-type company–from his 13 career starts.

The March sale, whose graduates have been on the board in no fewer than 340 stakes races–90 graded–since 2021 also claims as alumni last year's GIII Holy Bull S. hero White Abarrio (Race Day); the fleet Speed Boat Beach (Bayern); and GIII Nashua S. hero Champions Dream (Justify), a top chance in Saturday's GIII Sam F. Davis S.

Keeneland Catalogs 4,147 Horses for September Yearling Sale

Keeneland has cataloged 4,147 horses for the 79th renewal of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The auction, which spans 12 sessions from Sept. 12-24. To view the online catalog, click here. Print catalogs are expected to arrive in the mail around Aug. 20.

“The September Sale is a bellwether event on the annual sales calendar, and we at Keeneland are excited to once again provide a stable and successful marketplace for consignors and buyers,” Keeneland President and CEO Shannon Arvin said. “Last year's September Sale was vibrant from start to finish, resulting in record average and median prices and a record high clearance rate. This year, we look forward to welcoming back more international buyers who haven't been here in a few years due to COVID travel restrictions.”

Similar to the 2021 September Sale, Week 1 of this year's auction will feature Books 1 and 2 during the first four days, and more than 1,100 horses.

“We've been listening to our buyers, both from the U.S. and abroad, and they have expressed a desire that we put forward more horses which are top physicals early on, and so we have emphasized that aspect,” Keeneland Vice President of Sales Tony Lacy said. “Book 1 encompasses more highly graded horses than in recent years, so buyers who come into town for only a short period of time will be able to see a larger percentage of really nice horses.”

  • Book 1 – Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 12-13. Sessions begin at 1 p.m. ET. A total of 362 yearlings are cataloged over the two days.
  • Book 2 – Wednesday-Thursday, Sept. 14-15. Sessions begin at 11 a.m. A total of 751 yearlings are cataloged over the two days.
  • Dark Day – Friday, Sept. 16. No sale will be conducted

  • Book 3 – Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 17-18. Sessions begin at 10 a.m. A total of 828 yearlings are cataloged over the two days.
  • Book 4 – Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 19-20. Sessions begin at 10 a.m. A total of 822 yearlings are cataloged over the two days.
  • Book 5 – Wednesday-Thursday, Sept. 21-22. Sessions begin at 10 a.m. A total of 807 yearlings are cataloged over the two days.
  • Book 6 – Friday-Saturday, Sept. 23-24. Sessions begin at 10 a.m. A total of 577 yearlings are cataloged over the two days.

The September Sale catalog has a total of 2,102 colts, 2,044 fillies and one gelding, including 21 yearlings bred outside North America. Wanamaker’s May Sale Catalog Available

A total of 22 horses been listed for the 2022 Wanamaker's May Sale. The catalog includes newly born foals offered with their dams, yearlings, 2-year-olds, racing prospects and broodmares.

A half-dozen horses will be offered by Windhorse Thoroughbreds LLC, highlighted by the 2-year-old filly Scouting Party (Flat Out). Bred in New York and currently in training in Virginia, the February foal is out of an unraced daughter of Saint Misbehavin' (Sweetsouthernsaint), the dam of SW Mischief Maker (Cape Town) and the granddam of SW Makingcents (Goldencents). Windhorse also consigns the 7-year-old Causin' Trouble (Noble Causeway), a half-sister to Mischief Maker, who has been pronounced in foal to Modernist (Uncle Mo) on a Mar. 13 cover.

Denali Stud is offering a yearling Candy Ride (Arg) colt out of Emerald Quality (Quality Road), a half-sister to GSP Our Dahlia (Belong to Me) and from the family of MGSW & GISP Capital Plan (Rock Hard Ten).
