Caravaggio’s Agartha On Top in the Silver Flash

Joseph O'Brien trainee Agartha (Ire) (Caravaggio) was winless in four prior outings and went postward for Thursday evening's G3 Frank Conroy Silver Flash S. at Leopardstown as an almost unconsidered 16-1 outsider coming back off a two-length second to the 'TDN Rising Star' performance of Homeless Songs (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) tackling this seven-furlong strip at the Foxrock venue earlier in the month. The February-foaled bay had placed behind decent sorts in all races contested to date, including a third to the reopposing G3 Albany S. fourth Prettiest (Dubawi {Ire}) in a May 30 Navan maiden and a second to subsequent Listed Tipperary S. victrix Sacred Bridge (GB) (Bated Breath {GB}) contesting a June 23 maiden over six furlongs at Naas in her penultimate start. The eventual winner was sharply into stride and soon held sway with a two-length buffer. Allowed a breather rounding the home turn, she was asked to stretch passing the quarter-mile marker and was driven out inside the final furlong to shed maiden status in style, becoming the second black-type winner for her freshman sire (by Scat Daddy). Agartha hit the line with 2 3/4 lengths to spare from Juncture (GB) (Dark Angel {Ire}), with a half-length back to Seisai (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}) in third.

“We've always had a very high opinion of her, she's done nothing but improve with each run and she's been running very well,” said winning trainer Joseph O'Brien. “Today we said we'd let her bowl along and she loved it. Maybe we were restricting her a bit much before and letting her bowl along today allowed her to get into a great rhythm. She galloped, they didn't let her go and they followed her along all the way. She's a good filly and I'd say she'll go further too. The dam won a mile-and-six [furlong] Listed race so she could certainly go a mile at two anyway. We'll probably head for the [G2] Debutante with her now.”

Agartha, half-sister to a yearling colt by Churchill (Ire), is the first of two foals produced by Listed Stanerra S. victrix and G3 Irish St Leger Trial third Arya Tara (Ire) (Dylan Thomas {Ire}). Arya Tara is the leading performer out of a winning half-sister to G1 Prix Ganay-winning sire Astarabad (alleged) and Listed Trigo S. victrix Asmara (Lear Fan). Descendants of the latter include MG1SW sire Azamour (Ire) (Night Shift), MG1SW Australian champion The Autumn Sun (Aus) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}) and G1SP G2 Futurity S.-winning sire Arazan (Ire) (Anabaa).

Summer Southern Hemisphere Breeding Season Rates Set For Domestic Ashford Stud Residents

Ashford Stud has revealed its 2021 Southern Hemisphere season fees for its stallion roster remaining at the Versailles, Ky., farm over the summer, the South American publication Turf Diario reports.

A total of 10 stallions will be on offer for breedings on Southern Hemisphere time, led by champion Uncle Mo, whose advertised fee for the season is $30,000.

The 13-year-old son of Indian Charlie's Southern Hemisphere runners are led by Man From Uncle, who is a multiple group stakes winner in Australia. Other runners of note on that side of the world include Australian group-placed Moqueen, St Covet's Spirit, Miss Moana, and Sister Sledge.

Two young stallions will stand for $10,000: the international runner Caravaggio, whose first foals are 2-year-olds of 2021, and Belmont Stakes winner Tiz the Law, who recently completed his first Northern Hemisphere season at stud. Tiz the Law was initially scheduled to stand in Chile this summer, but he will remain in the U.S.

Maximum Security and Classic Empire will stand for $7,500, while Air Force Blue, Cupid, Echo Town, and Mo Town will stand for $5,000.

Dizzy Bizu a Black-Type First For Caravaggio

Peter Savill's 2-year-old filly Dizzy Bizu (Ire) (Caravaggio) posted a May 11 debut score tackling five furlongs at Chantilly and returned over the same strip to remain perfect in Sunday's Listed Prix La Fleche, providing her freshman sire (by Scat Daddy) with a first black-type success. Breaking sharply to race in a prominent second from flagfall, the 21-5 chance came under pressure on all sides passing the quarter-mile marker and was driven out inside the final furlong to assert by an ultimately comfortable 1 3/4 lengths from Anterselva (Fr) (Fast Company {Ire}).

“She wasn't that impressive when winning first time out, but she is a sweet little filly and has improved a lot in her work at home since,” explained trainer Stephane Wattel. “Her dam was a precocious type, who won at Listed level as a 2-year-old, and at this stage she's all speed. I trained for Mr Savill some years ago, without getting the best results, but I think he has forgiven me. He now keeps his mares in France, this is a great result and I'm delighted for him. We will follow the programme and shall target the [G3] Prix du Bois and [G2] Prix Robert Papin. After that, we'll see.”

Dizzy Bizu, who hails from the family of G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas heroine Platinum Witness (Aus) (California Dane {Aus}), is the lone foal out of Listed Prix Six Perfections victrix Izzy Bizu (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), herself a half-sister to MGSW G2 Goldene Peitsche winner Donnerschlag (GB) (Bahamian Bounty {GB}) and G3 Round Tower S. placegetter De Boss Man (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}). The February-foaled grey's second dam, Listed Prix Occitanie third Dame Hester (Ire) (Diktat {GB}), is kin to G2 King's Stand S. third Funny Valentine (Ire) (Cadeaux Genereux {GB}) and to the dam of G3 Sandown Sprint S.-winning sire Resplendent Glory (Ire) (Namid {GB}). Descendants of her third dam Aunt Hester (Ire) (Caerleon), herself a half-sister to G3 Prix Daphnis-winning sire L'Irresponsable (Ile de Bourbon), include G2 Norfolk S.-sire winning sire Prince of Lir (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}).
