Highclere Stallion Parade to Support Racing Welfare

The Feb. 8 Highclere Stud Stallion Parade will now also support Racing Welfare. A donation equivalent to 5% of the nomination sales generated on the day of the parade will be donated to Racing Welfare, Highclere's Jake Warren announced.

“Racing Welfare provides crucial care for the wellbeing of people in the horseracing and thoroughbred breeding community, and we are privileged to support their efforts,” said Warren. “We are hugely looking forward to seeing breeders next week for what should be a very entertaining day.”

The stallion parade is now fully subscribed, and Highclere Stud requests that breeders who sent a reply card in the post after Feb. 1 to check with the stud office that it has been received. Competition entries to win a free nomination to Cable Bay (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) or Land Force (Ire) (No Nay Never) are still open, but close on Sunday, Feb. 6. Please visit the Highclere website for details.

2022 Mating Plans: Leah Perry

With the 2022 breeding season right around the corner, we will feature a series of breeders' mating plans over the coming weeks. Breeder Leah Perry shares with us the mating plans for her broodmare band.

ACAPELLA STAR (IRE) (m, 15, Oratorio {Ire}–Opera Star {Ire}, by Sadler's Wells)
A 400 gns private purchase and unraced mare, the George Baker trainee's first foal and only runner Fame n Fortune (GB) (Thewayouare) gained TFR 93 while winning five times. She is also responsible for a filly by Shade Oak stud's Telescope (Ire) who is currently in training with Baker.

Acapella star will be visiting Highclere Stud Cable Bay (Ire). The Nick has already produced Ropey Guest (GB), who recorded a career-high Time Form rating 104.

“Cable Bay would most certainly be the best sire she has visited, and we are really excited by what the match can produce.”

BLUSHING BEAUTY (GB) (m, 10, Youmzain {Ire}-Pink Ivory {GB}, by Sakhee)
Blushing Beauty won in Germany over 10 furlongs and finished third in a maiden in Baden Baden in front of eventual Group 2 winner Shivajia. Her first foal, Bagatelle (GB) (Kendargent {Fr}), won at Kempton over eight furlongs and her 2-year-old daughter, Sid's Annie (GB) (Farhh {GB}), ran second in her Kempton debut over seven furlongs. Blushing Beauty's second dam is Anna of Saxony (GB), the granddam of Anna Salai (Dubawi {Ire}), who is responsible for G1 Epsom Derby and G1 King George winner Adayar (Ire) (Frankel {GB}).

“Blushing Beauty will be visiting Land Force (Ire). Physically, I feel he will really suit her and bring some speed to the pedigree.”

Highclere Stud Releases 2022 Roster and Fees

The 2022 roster and fees for Highclere Stud have been released. Both Cable Bay (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) at £8,000 and Land Force (Ire) (No Nay Never) at £5,000, will stand for Oct. 1st SLF, with both fees unchanged from 2021. Cable Bay's eldest foals are just 4-year-olds, and he is already the sire of six black-type winners including Liberty Beach (GB), who also ran third in the G1 King's Stand S., fellow group winner Collinsbay (GB), and three-time Group 1 placed Dragon Symbol (GB).

G2 Richmond S. hero Land Force will stand his third season at the Newbury nursery and demand for the G2 Norfolk S. third remains high. One of his first foals is a son of Tidal Stream (GB) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}), herself a half-sister to Group 3 winner Reach For The Moon (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) and Thames Pageant (GB) (Dansili {GB}). The last-named is the dam of recent GII Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint heroine Twilight Gleaming (Ire) (National Defense {GB}).

“Cable Bay had another terrific year highlighted by multiple Group-1 performing sprinter Dragon Symbol,” said Highclere's Jake Warren. “He has produced two Group 1 horses from his first two crops and has sired 18 individual group and stakes horses worldwide to date. Land Force has produced some outstanding first foals this year from his first crop of 155 mares which we are very excited about, so much so that 70% of the 118 mares he covered in his second crop were supplied by breeders that used him in year one. Our 50/50 and Euros4Euros terms have been extremely popular and will be on offer again this year.”

Cable Bay’s Liberty Beach Takes the Temple

Making all on her return in Saturday's G2 Temple S. at Haydock, Liberty Beach (GB) (Cable Bay {Ire}) enjoyed the perfect warm-up for a second tilt at the G1 King's Stand S. in which she was third in 2020. Also third in ParisLongchamp's G1 Prix de l'Abbaye when last seen in October, the 13-8 favourite was made to pull out the stops late on by Ainsdale (GB) (Mayson {GB}) but kept finding to score by a neck as Lady In France (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) was half a length away in third. “She's very quick and has won three times first time out,” commented trainer John Quinn, who also saddled the fifth Keep Busy (Ire) (Night of Thunder {Ire}). “The two of them are in the [June 15] King's Stand and they'll go there. She had to be tough and she dug deep–as Jason [Hart] said, nothing passed her after the line.”

Successful in the G3 Molecomb S. and runner-up in the G2 Lowther S. as a juvenile, Liberty Beach had taken the Listed Cecil Frail S. over six furlongs here only nine days before her King's Stand effort due to the compressed nature of the pre-Royal Ascot calendar last term. Also second in the G3 Sandown Sprint S. and fourth in the G2 King George S. at Goodwood before her Abbaye sign-off, she has extra time between this prep and her rematch with Battaash (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) who has had his own problems this Spring. “As you know well, it's nice to get them out and get a run into them,” Quinn added. “Anyone can only do so much at home, so to have a run into both of these is vital really. She has a lot of class and a lot of speed. She could have been unbeaten as a two-year-old. Her last run in the Abbaye was very good. She's won on good-to-firm, good, soft and heavy–both these fillies are very versatile. The two of them are very good.”

Liberty Beach's dam Flirtinaskirt (GB) (Avonbridge {GB}) is kin to three black-type performers including the G3 Dick Poole Fillies' S. winner La Rioja (GB) (Hellvelyn {GB}) and the G3 Princess Margaret S. runner-up Pastoral Girl (GB) (Pastoral Pursuits {GB}), in turn the dam of the G1 Prix Morny and G2 Mill Reef S. third Rhythm Master (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}). Also connected to the G2 Park Hill S.-winning stayer Eastern Aria (UAE) (Halling), Flirtinaskirt has a yearling filly by Massaat (Ire) to follow.
