Stallion Seasons Auction Open for Canadian Hall of Fame

The Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame has opened a stallion services auction, beginning Thursday and running until Wednesday, Jan. 18. All proceeds from the fundraiser will support the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame's ongoing mission to recognize the best in Canadian racing.

The second annual “Continuing Hall of Fame Legacies Auction” features not only Thoroughbred, but also Standardbred stallions, with stallions from both Canadian- and Kentucky-based farms. Among the major U.S. farms contributing seasons are Darley, Spendthrift, Lane's End, and Crestwood Farm.

Ocala Stud Sets 2023 Stallion Roster

Ocala Stud has set 2023 stud fees for its roster of 10 stallions for the upcoming breeding season, led by GI Santa Anita Derby winner Roadster, who will stand his initial season at stud for $7,500 S&N. Also new to the roster for 2023 is GISW Gretzky the Great, who will stand for $3,000 S&N.

Awesome Slew, Florida's No. 1-ranked First Crop Sire, will once again stand for $4,000 S&N.

Seeking the Soul, a Charles Fipke homebred, will stand for $5,000 S&N. He welcomed first foals in 2022.

Win Win Win, like Seeking the Soul, saw his first foals hit the ground in 2022 and will stand the upcoming breeding season for $5,000 S&N.

Stud fees for Adios Charlie, Jess's Dream, and Noble Bird will be $3,000 S&N, and Dak Attack and Battalion Runner will stand for $2,500 S&N.

Breeding Season Prep Workshop to Be Offered By ITBA

The ITBA Educational Programme 2021: Breeding Season Preparation Workshop, was announced on Tuesday. Free to attend, the workshop lasts from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 16. Topics that will be covered are: assisting mares during foaling (Patricia Markey), preparing mares for foaling and postnatal care (Andrea Ryan), the best nutritional plan for pregnant mares during and post foaling and nutritional plans for foals (Lorraine Fradl) and smart approaches to getting mares back in foal plus the importance of selecting the most suitable stallions (Micheal Orlandi). Commenting, ITBA's Kerry Ryan said, “Over the last numbers of years, the ITBA Breeding Season Preparation Workshop, supported by the Department of Agriculture, under its Equine Technical Support & Breeding Scheme Project, has become a key fixture in [the] ITBA Educational Programme. Trio of Mares In Foal to Persian King

Three-time Group 1 winner Persian King (Ire) (Kingman {GB}) has enjoyed a good start to his initial covering season, as the first three mares he bred have been pronounced in foal, Haras d'Etreham announced on Tuesday. Among the threesome are listed winner Cap Verite (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}) and Elodie (GB) (Dansili {GB}). The latter is a full-sister to champions We Are (Ire) and With You (GB). The son of Kingman's fee is set at €30,000 for 2021.

Limited to 140 mares, the G1 French 2000 Guineas victor will also receive Group 1 producers Taranto (GB) (Machiavellian), Golden Lily (Fr) (Dolphin Street {Fr}), Princess Sofia (UAE) (Pennekamp), and Milena's Dream (Ire) (Authorized {Ire}). Also successful in the G1 Prix d'Ispahan and G1 Prix du Moulin, his book will feature Group 1 winners Rosanara (Fr) (Sinndar {Ire}) and Waikika (Fr) (Whipper).
