Time Test Breeding Right Leads at Tattersalls Online

A breeding right in progressive young stallion Time Test (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) was purchased for 100,000gns by Blandford Bloodstock's Tom Goff to top the Tattersalls Online Sale on Friday. Blandford Bloodstock also teamed up with Wardley Bloodstock to acquire the remaining lot, a breeding right in Ardad (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) for 75,000gns.

Lot 2 was offered on behalf of a gentleman. The National Stud resident has already sired four black-type winners in his first crop led by G3 Dick Poole S. heroine Romantic Time (GB) and German Group 3 winner Rocchigiani (GB). The King's Horses (GB) has won at the listed level in Italy and has also placed in the G3 Premio Primi Passi, while Tardis (GB) captured the Listed St Hugh's S. at Newbury. The winning Sunset Shiraz (Ire) has earned black-type four times and was third in the G1 Moyglare Stud S. Overall, the dual Group 2 winner and multiple Group 1-placed Time Test has sired 11 winners to date.

“The Time Test breeding right has been bought for an overseas investor who wishes to remain anonymous,” said Goff. “They approached us earlier in the week about it. The sire is a fantastic addition to the National Stud's roster and has started very well, achieving more than most people expected of him at this stage. He has some excellent crops sizes to come and it's all ahead of him really.”

G2 Flying Childers S. hero Ardad has also enjoyed an excellent season with his first crop of runners. The National Stud consigned the breeding right (lot 1) in the sire of 21 winners. His pair of black-type winners are led by G1 Middle Park S. and G1 Prix Morny hero Perfect Power (Ire). Eve Lodge (GB) won the G3 Sirenia S. and Ardad also has the G2 Coventry S. third Vintage Clarets (GB). It was announced on Thursday that he will stand for £12,500 at Overbury Stud in 2022.

“I am really delighted to secure the breeding right to Ardad for Wardley Bloodstock,” said Goff. “What the sire has achieved this year is nothing short of sensational. My client is very excited to get involved in what is already a remarkable bloodstock story.”

Claiborne Farm Acquires Breeding Rights To Met Mile Winner Silver State

Claiborne Farm announced today that it has acquired the breeding rights to multiple graded stakes winner Silver State. He will stand at the Paris, Ky., farm upon his retirement from racing.

The 4-year-old son of Hard Spun has won seven of 13 career starts, hitting the board in 12 of those starts, and has made over $1.9 million. In 2021 alone, he is 4-1-1 from 6 starts and has made over $1.6 million.

“We are very excited to stand Silver State in 2022,” said Walker Hancock of Claiborne Farm. “Danzig is one of the legends of Claiborne, and we anticipate his legacy continuing through his grandson, Silver State.”

Silver State is being pointed toward this year's Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Del Mar on Saturday Nov. 6, after earning a “Win and You're In” berth by winning the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap. In the stallion-making Met Mile, he defeated three Grade 1 winners, including Knicks Go, a four-time Grade 1 winner of the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile and Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes.

The highlight of his career thus far is a six-race winning streak spanning 2020 and 2021, which included wins in the listed Fifth Season Stakes and Essex Stakes at Oaklawn Park, the G2 Oaklawn Handicap, and culminating in his signature Met Mile triumph at Belmont Park.

Trained by Steve Asmussen for the partnership of Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC and Willis Horton Racing, the most accomplished son of Hard Spun has posted wins in each of his three campaigns. Silver State won on debut as a juvenile in a maiden special weight during the September meet at Churchill Downs. At age three, a minor setback knocked him off the Triple Crown trail, but he returned to the races later that year to score allowance wins at Keeneland and Churchill Downs.

“He's a tremendous physical,” said trainer Steve Asmussen. “Everyone that's been around this horse is struck by his presence. He really must be seen to be believed.”

Ron Winchell of Winchell Thoroughbreds, who co-owns Silver State with Willis Horton Racing, added, “For any horse to win six races in a row, especially when those victories included races as well-regarded as the Oaklawn Handicap and Met Mile, is pretty incredible and puts him in a special category. Looking ahead to his stud career, we couldn't be more excited about Silver State finding a home at Claiborne. We're looking forward to supporting him with our mares and can't wait to see his offspring.”

A product of the vaunted Stonestreet Farm breeding program, Silver State is out of the Grade 3-placed stakes-winning Empire Maker mare Supreme, and he hails from the family of Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos. He sold for $450,000 as a yearling at the 2018 Keeneland September sale.

An advertised stud fee will be announced at a later date.

Time Test Breeding Right Tops Tattersalls Online Sale

Leading the way at the Tattersalls Online September 15 Sale was a breeding right in first-season sire Time Test (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) as lot 27, which went for 85,000gns to Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock. The stallion, who stands at The National Stud, has been enjoying a purple patch of late with his first juveniles and has celebrated black-type success with Group 3 winners Rocchigiani (GB) and Romantic Time (GB), while Tardis (GB) has already won a listed race and Sunset Shiraz (Ire) ran third in the G1 Moyglare Stud S. on Sunday after placing in the G2 Debutante S. earlier in her career. The 9-year-old also boasts Italian Group 3 third The King's Horses (GB) and has seven winners from 23 starters to date.

Ross Doyle said, “He's a young sire going places, by a top sire in Dubawi out of a well bred Dansili (GB) mare which we love. He's been very well supported in recent years and very well managed by Tim Lane and the team at the National Stud. We have bought it for a client who will support him with some very nice mares.”

“It's a great result and a true reflection on his success to date,” said The National Stud's Head of Nominations and Sales Joe Callan. “The Tattersalls Online platform offered an excellent opportunity for a breeding right to be offered on the back of Time Test's recent outstanding results.”

The second highest price on the day was 35,000gns for a breeding right in proven Group 1 stallion Havana Gold (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) (lot 32), who stands at Tweenhills. Haras du Mont Dit Mont purchased the breeding right in the sire of G1 Flying Five S. victor Havana Grey (GB).

Sophomore filly Espouse (Ire) (Elusive Pimpernel) was snapped up for 32,000gns by agent Alex Elliott, who was bidding from America. A winner in five starts, the bay is a half-sister to the placed juvenile filly Azure Blue (Ire) (El Kabeir), while her dam Sea of Dreams (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB]) is a half-sister to group winners Pincheck (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) and Valeria Messalina (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}).

“My mother part owns the 2-year-old half-sister Azure Blue who was very unlucky on her most recent start and we hope could be stakes class,” said Elliott. “She's a filly from a young family that I like a lot who had plenty of ability so I'm excited to have bought her.”

Patrick Cooper, representing Simmonstown Stud, said of lot 9, “We had a great sale. It was all very easy and for the lower end of the market, online is probably the way forward.”

Overall, 11 lots sold from 25 offered for a gross of 188,200gns. The average was 17,109gns and the median settled at 9,000gns.
