Hello You Earns Breeders’ Cup Berth In Rockfel Stakes

Amo Racing Limited's Hello You (IRE) announced herself as one of the best 2-year-old fillies in Europe, as she quickened clear in Friday's Unibet Rockfel Stakes (G2) at Newmarket's Rowley Mile course. Her 1 ½-length success secures a guaranteed start into the US$1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) as part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series.

The Breeders' Cup Challenge Series is an international series of stakes races whose winners receive automatic starting positions and fees paid into a corresponding race of the Breeders' Cup World Championships, which will be held at Del Mar racetrack in Del Mar, California, on Nov. 5-6.

Hello You, a bay daughter of Invincible Spirit (IRE) out of the Pivotal (GB) mare Lucrece (GB), won impressively on her debut at Wolverhampton back in May but had been unable to get her head in front in four efforts since. Ridden by her regular partner Rossa Ryan, Hello You sat just off the pace set by the George Boughey-trained pair Oscula (IRE) and Cachet (IRE) before accelerating past them both to give young trainer David Loughnane a second Group 2 success of the season, after Go Bears Go (IRE) claimed the GAIN Railway Stakes (G2) at The Curragh in June.

Hello You moved yards from Ralph Beckett to Loughnane at the start of August and her new trainer acknowledged Beckett's work with the filly.

Loughnane said: “She's strengthened up loads over the last month. She arrived with us from Mr. Beckett's in great order, and we're very privileged and lucky to have a horse of her caliber in the yard. I think she'd go on any ground. I said beforehand that she's a Group horse and deserved a Group win beside her name – and I'm delighted she's proved herself today. The Amo team have thought a lot of her from day one. She was very impressive on debut, and you couldn't knock what she did at Royal Ascot.”

When asked about Hello You's future plans, Loughnane declared that connections have their sights set on a trip to the Breeders' Cup.

“I know Kia (Joorabchian) is very keen to potentially have a crack at the Breeders' Cup (Juvenile Fillies Turf) in Del Mar in November. We've always felt she'll be better over 1-mile and she's just outstayed them today over the 7 furlongs.”

Newmarket trainer George Boughey has enjoyed a fantastic season, and he saddled both Cachet and Oscula to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Hello You (7/1) finished the 7-furlongs in 1:23:12, defeating eight rivals over a course listed as good-to-firm.

As part of the benefits of the Challenge Series, the Breeders' Cup will pay the entry fees for Hello You to start in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, which will be run at 1-mile over the Del Mar turf course. Breeders' Cup will also provide a travel allowance of US$40,000 for all starters based outside of North America to compete in the World Championships. The Challenge winner must be nominated to the Breeders' Cup program by the Championships' pre-entry deadline of Oct. 25 to receive the rewards.

Masekela Heads ‘Win And You’re In’ Royal Lodge Saturday At Newmarket

Mick and Janice Mariscotti's Masekela (IRE) heads a field of seven in Saturday's Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes (G2) at Newmarket. The 1-mile contest, restricted to 2-year-old colts and geldings, offers a guaranteed fees-paid berth into the US$1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) as part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series.

The Breeders' Cup Challenge Series is an international series of 84 stakes races whose winners receive automatic starting positions and fees paid into a corresponding race of the Breeders' Cup World Championships, which will be held at Del Mar racetrack in Del Mar, California, on Nov. 5-6.

The Andrew Balding-trained Masekela (IRE) boasts impressive form ahead of this Group 2 contest. A winner on debut, the son of El Kabeir finished fifth to subsequent Group 2 winner Point Lonsdale (IRE) in the Listed Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot, before placing second by a short head behind Native Trail (GB) in the bet365 Superlative Stakes (G2) at Newmarket on July 10. Godolphin's Native Trail (GB) recently enjoyed top-level success in the Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes (G1) at The Curragh on Sept. 12, with Point Lonsdale (IRE) in second.

Stepping up to race over 1-mile for the first time, Masekela (IRE) was last seen taking the 7-furlong listed Denford Stakes under Oisin Murphy at Newbury on Aug. 14. Murphy has the ride again with connections hoping the 2-year-old colt can continue the stable's good form.

Trainer Andrew Balding said: “He's been working well at home and is in good form. I think the extra furlong should really suit him in this race. We're looking forward to the Royal Lodge and fingers crossed he can put in another good performance.”

Royal Patronage (FR), a two-time winner this season, heads the opposition for trainer Mark Johnston. The son of Wootton Bassett (GB) was last seen scoring a big upset in the Tattersalls Acomb Stakes at York on Aug. 18, winning by 2 ¼ lengths at 25-1. Jason Hart takes the ride.

Owned and bred by Godolphin, Coroebus (IRE) makes a significant jump up in grade after winning in his sole start to date – a novice stakes at Newmarket on Aug. 13. The Charlie Appleby-trained son of Dubawi (IRE) will be partnered by William Buick.

Four-time Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf-winning trainer Aidan O'Brien fields Howth (IRE), who was a close-up fourth in the “Win and You're In” KPMG Champions Juvenile Stakes (G2) at The Curragh last time out. O'Brien's son Donnacha saddles Atlantic Thoroughbreds' Unconquerable (IRE). In his most recent start, the son of Churchill (IRE) placed third in the Japan Racing Association Tyros Stakes (G3) at Leopardstown on Jul. 22. Frankie Dettori has the mount.

Completing the line-up are Oneforthegutter (GB) and Seattle King (GB). The Ian Williams-trained Oneforthegutter (GB) placed second by a head in the Circus Maximus Prix Francois Boutin Stakes (G3) at Deauville last time out, while Seattle King (GB), trained by Ralph Beckett, steps up in company after finishing fourth behind Masekela (IRE) in the Denford Stakes.

As part of the benefits of the Challenge Series, Breeders' Cup will pay the entry fees for the Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes winner to start in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, which will be run at 1-mile on the Del Mar turf course. Breeders' Cup will also provide a travel allowance of US$40,000 for all starters based outside of North America to compete in the World Championships. The Challenge winner must be nominated to the Breeders' Cup program by the Championships' pre-entry deadline of Oct. 25 to receive the rewards.

‘She Owes Us Nothing’: Cox Reflects On Monomoy Girl’s Career

Spendthrift Farm and trainer Brad Cox announced Wednesday afternoon the retirement of multiple champion mare Monomoy Girl. Cox reflected Thursday about Monomoy Girl and what she's meant to his career.

“She's simply a remarkable mare and has meant the world to my career,” Cox said. “She's given her owners a lot of joy throughout her career. We knew as a barn we weren't going to do anything with her if she wasn't 100 percent. It took us awhile to get her back last year. She's rewarded us in such a big way. She owes us nothing and will always be special to us. She was our first (Kentucky) Oaks winner and Breeders' Cup winner and a multiple champion. She matured a lot throughout her career. Going into the Breeders' Cup (in 2020) she trained with such a purpose each day. It was hard to imagine her works being better than when she was a 3-year-old but she was more aggressive in her training and really blossomed on the racetrack.”

Owned in partnership by My Racehorse Stable, Spendthrift Farm and Madaket Stables, Monomoy Girl – a sure-fire future Hall of Famer – retired Wednesday with $4,776,818 in career purse earnings with an outstanding record of 17-14-3-0.

The speedy daughter of Tapizar grew to stardom after starting her career a perfect 3-for-3. Following a neck defeat in the 2017 Golden Rod (G2), Monomoy Girl stormed to victory in five straight races including the 2018 Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1). She ended her 3-year-old campaign with one-length win in the Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1). At the end of the season, she was awarded the Eclipse Award for outstanding 3-year-old filly.

Monomoy Girl spent the next 18 months on the sidelines due to injury but returned for her 5-year-old campaign which included victories in the La Troienne (G1) and Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1). She was awarded the Eclipse Award for Older Dirt Female in 2020.

There were only two races Monomoy Girl didn't go off as the favorite: the 2017 Rags to Riches (3-1) and Kentucky Oaks (5-2).

Monomoy Girl raced at eight different racetracks and recorded victories on the dirt and turf. Jockey Florent Geroux was partnered with Monomoy Girl for 16 starts. Marcelino Pedroza rode her to victory in her debut at Indiana Grand.

Monomoy Girl was purchased at the 2016 Keeneland September Yearling Sale by BSW Bloodstock and agent Liz Crow for $100,000. Crow reflected Wednesday on social media about the career of Monomoy Girl.

“(She) was the mare of a lifetime,” Crow said. “There is truly no way to thank her for what she's done for everyone involved. Monomoy Girl brought people together and changed lives.”

Cox stated Monomoy Girl will be retired to Spendthrift Farm.

Frankel Filly Majestic Glory Chasing Breeders’ Cup Berth In Friday’s Rockfel Stakes

Mrs. Doreen Tabor's Majestic Glory (GB) will bid to complete a hat-trick of wins in Friday's Unibet Rockfel Stakes (G2) for 2-year-old fillies run on Newmarket's Rowley Mile course. The daughter of Frankel (GB) faces nine rivals in the 7-furlong contest, which offers a guaranteed fees-paid berth into the US$1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) as part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series.

The Breeders' Cup Challenge Series is an international series of stakes races whose winners receive automatic starting positions and fees paid into a corresponding race of the Breeders' Cup World Championships, which will be held at Del Mar racetrack in Del Mar, California, on Nov. 5-6.

The Andrew Balding-trained Majestic Glory won at her third attempt in a Novice Stakes at Newmarket's July course and followed up with a win in the RacingTV Profits Back To Racing Sweet Solera Stakes (G3) last month, defeating subsequent Group 1 winner Wild Beauty (GB) into second. Ryan Moore will be on board the filly for the first time on Friday.

Newmarket trainer George Boughey runs two in the race, Oscula (IRE) and Cachet (IRE), with the latter finishing a disappointing seventh, after missing the break, in the Prix d'Aumale (Group 3) at ParisLongchamp in her last start.

Boughey said: “Cachet was unlucky in France, she was slow out of the gate, which she has been the last twice. I think you'll see a different Cachet on Friday. She looks great now.”

Meanwhile, Oscula will be having her eighth start of the season. The daughter of Galileo Gold (GB) won the Prix Six Perfections Sky Sports Racing (G3) at Deauville in August, before finishing third as the 7-5 favorite in the Prix Du Calvados (G2) at the same track last time.

Boughey said: “I think she'll run a massive race. I think she's up to this level. She's got to handle Newmarket, she wouldn't have done a huge amount of work on the track, unlike most of mine, so that's a little bit new to her. Her style of racing should suit it.”

The Ralph Beckett-trained Girl On Film (FR) was an impressive maiden winner on Newmarket's July course in her Aug. 7 debut for owners John and Tanya Gunther. A daughter of Dabirsim (FR), Girl On Film will be ridden by Frankie Dettori.

Also putting an unbeaten record on the line is the Roger Charlton-trained Jumbly (GB), who made it two wins from two starts with a comfortable success on Kempton's All-Weather track on Sept. 3.

Romantic Time (GB) has won three of her last four starts, most recently the Ire Incentive Scheme Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes (G3) at Salisbury, over 6 furlongs. Marco Ghiani, currently leading the Apprentice Jockeys' Championship, takes the ride.

Hello You (IRE), Sunstrike (IRE), Kawida (GB) and Femme Friendly (GB) complete the field.

As part of the benefits of the Challenge Series, the Breeders' Cup will pay the entry fees for the winner of the Unibet Rockfel Stakes to start in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, which will be run at 1-mile over the Del Mar turf course. Breeders' Cup will also provide a travel allowance of US$40,000 for all starters based outside of North America to compete in the World Championships. The Challenge winner must be nominated to the Breeders' Cup program by the Championships' pre-entry deadline of Oct. 25 to receive the rewards.
