Bidding Now Open for Fasig-Tipton October Digital Selected Sale

Fasig-Tipton has catalogued 30 entries for its October Digital Selected Sale, which may now be viewed at digital.fasigtipton.com. Bidding is officially open and will close Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. ET.

The catalogue offers selected horses of racing age and breeding stock.

“The October Digital catalogue includes another first for our digital platform – the opportunity to purchase a 50% interest in a Breeders' Cup-bound undefeated 2-year-old filly,” said Leif Aaron, Director of Digital Sales. “Showgirl Lynne B is now a winner of all three of her starts–including a stakes win–and is pointing for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf next.”

“Buyers will also find good quality among the breeding stock entries, at a time of year when breeders are beginning to make their 2023 mating plans,” Aaron added.

Entries catalogued include:

Olive Branch (Hip 6): Young daughter of Speightstown was a debut winner at two at Belmont and graded stakes placed in the GII Adirondack S. at Saratoga. She's a half-sister to graded stakes winner Moonlight d'Oro, and out of a full-sister to graded stakes winner Wilburn. She's offered in foal to Bolt d'Oro, current co-leading first crop sire by black-type stakes winners and black-type stakes performers.

Showgirl Lynne B – 50% Interest (Hip 9): A 2-year-old daughter of Constitution from the family of champion Escena, she's a winner of three races in three starts on both turf and synthetic, including the Sharp Susan S. at Gulfstream. She is pointing for the Breeders' Cup next, with a first preference of the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.

Ulikeapples (Hip 15): Three-year-old racing/broodmare prospect impressively won allowance race on turf at Monmouth on Sept. 17, earning at 12 Ragozin figure. She is next entered to run in the Honey Bee S. this Friday at the Meadowlands. By Nyquist, she is out of graded stakes winner Richiegirlgonewild. She is a half-sister to stakes winner Super Allison, the dam of Bernabreezy, a stakes placed three-year-old filly this year.

Keeneland Opens With a Trio of Breeders’ Cup Qualifiers

Keeneland opens its highly anticipated fall meet Friday with a trio of graded stakes that each provide the winners with a spot in the gate for the Breeders' Cup World Championships to be held in Lexington the first weekend of November.

The highlight of the day will be the GI Darley Alcibiades S., a qualifier for the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Ken McPeek and Brad Cox have taken turns the last few years, each winning two of the last four, and McPeek has the morning-line favorite in last-out GIII Pocahontas S. winner Fun and Feisty (Midshipman).

McPeek also saddles longshot Stellar Lady (Shackleford), who broke her maiden on grass last out at Kentucky Downs Sept. 8. The aforementioned Cox also saddles a grass filly in unbeaten Chop Chop (City of Light), who enters off a win in the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies S. Sept. 3.

DJ Stable's Wonder Wheel (Into Mischief) will likely challenge Fun and Feisty for favoritism. Opening her account with a pair of wins including a dominant score in Churchill's Debutante S. in July, the dark bay checked in second in Saratoga's GI Spinaway S. Sept. 4.

Chad Brown sends out one worth a look at a price in Alpha Delta Stables homebred Raging Sea (Curlin). She rallied to victory in her debut going seven panels at Saratoga Aug. 7. Both her running style and her pedigree suggest she will only improve with more distance.

Juvenile grass fillies get their chance to secure a spot in the Breeders' Cup starting gate one race earlier in the GII J.P. Morgan Chase Jessamine S. Chop Chop would have been favored in this event, but now that will likely go to Towhead (Malibu Moon), who came up a nose short of that foe in the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies S.

Jonathan Thomas saddles a live on in Augustin Stable's Delight (Mendelssohn). The $400,000 OBSMAR buy earned her diploma at Delaware last out Aug. 27 after a pair of thirds in her first two tries.

G. Watts Humphrey's Bling (American Pharoah) took a huge step forward when switched from dirt to turf in her second start at Ellis Aug. 20, earning her diploma by 3 3/4 lengths.

Also worth a look at what is sure to be a juicy price for bettors is NY-bred Recognize (Bolt d'Oro). Her freshman sire now has two graded winners on turf and her Hall of Fame conditioner Bill Mott is known for his patience and ability to get horses to peak at the right time. The bay graduated by 5 1/4 lengths at third asking against fellow Empire-breds at Saratoga in Aug. 18 and checked in third after setting the pace in that venue's P.G. Johnson S. Sept. 1.

Rounding out Friday's Breeders' Cup qualifiers is the GII Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix S. for male sprinters. With champion Jackie's Warrior (Maclean's Music) and Cody's Wish (Curlin), who defeated the divisional leader in the GI Forego S., waiting for the first weekend in November, this event lacks star power. However, the horse who may be improving at just the right time is Sibelius (Not This Time), who enters off a pair of strong victories and triple-digit Beyers, including the Lite the Fuse S. at Pimlico Sept. 10, for which he warned a 106 Beyer Speed Figure.

Special Reserve (Midshipman) captured this event last year, but could only manage fourth in the Breeders' Cup. Off the board in his seasonal debut in the DeFrancis Memorial Dash July 16, he wired the Senator Robert C. Byrd Memorial S. in the slop at Mountaineer last out Aug. 6.

Going To Vegas Faces Tall Task To Defend Her Title In Rodeo Drive

Based in Kentucky, trainer Brendon Walsh's classy Family Way rates top billing among a field of seven distaffers going a mile and one quarter on turf in Saturday's Grade 1, $300,000 Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita.

A Breeders' Cup “Win & You're In” Challenge Race qualifier, the Rodeo Drive winner will earn a fees-paid berth into the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Keeneland on Nov. 5.

Second, beaten 1 ½ lengths in a Grade 3 going a marathon 1 5/16 miles as the 4-5 favorite at Kentucky Downs Sept. 13, Family Way was a solid third two starts back in the Grade 1 Beverly D at Churchill Downs Aug. 13 and she brings an impressive 2022 resume of 6-1-4-1, all in graded stakes this year.

Trained by Brendan Walsh, Family Way, a 5-year-old mare by Uncle Mo out of the Giant's Causeway mare Susie's Baby, will be making her first Southern California appearance as she seeks her first Grade 1 win in what will be her 19th career start while ridden for the first time by Mike Smith.

Kentucky-bred but raced in France through her first six starts at age three, Family Way, who is owned by Hunter Valley Farm, Debra O'Connor and Marc Detampel, is 18-5-5-3 overall with earnings of $922,860.

Chad Brown's New York-based Fluffy Socks, winless this year in five tries but second in four of those races—three of them graded stakes, rates a huge chance from off the pace with Joe Bravo. A 4-year-old filly by Slumber out of the Kitten's Joy mare Breakfast Time, Fluffy Socks is owned by her breeder, Head of Plains Partners, LLC.

A multiple graded winner, Fluffy Socks seeks her first Grade 1 win as she approaches the Rodeo Drive with an overall mark of 16-4-7-2 with earnings of $669,680.

Last year's Rodeo Drive winner Going to Vegas, was a troubled third in the G2 John C. Mabee Stakes Sept. 10 at Del Mar, has five wins and six seconds from 14 starts over the Santa Anita turf and she has two wins and as many seconds from four tries at the Rodeo Drive distance.

Trained by Phil D'Amato, Going to Vegas, a 5-year-old mare by Goldencents out of the Johannesburg mare Hard to Resist, has three seconds from four starts this year and will be reunited with Umberto Rispoli, who was aboard for last year's Rodeo Drive win.

Owned by Abbondanza Racing, LLC, Medallion Racing and MyRacehorse, Going to Vegas is 27-7-11-3 overall with earnings of $809,151.

Trainer Leonard Powell's consistent French-bred Neige Blanche, who has four wins from nine tries over the Santa Anita lawn, is another multiple stakes winner in search of her first Grade 1 win. Most recently fifth, beaten three lengths as the 4-5 favorite in an ungraded stakes at 1 3/8 miles on turf Aug. 19, Neige Blanche will be handled by regular rider Juan Hernandez.

Owned by Madaket Stables, LLC, Laura De Seroux, Valerie Naify, et al, Neige Blanche has won three of her five starts this year and is 20-9-0-4 overall with earnings of $542,280.

Impressive First-Out Winner Justique Headlines Saturday’s Chandelier

C R K Stable's Justique, an impressive first-out winner that would appear to be much better suited routing, rates top billing among a talented field of seven juvenile fillies who will each be trying two turns for the first time in Saturday's Grade 2, $200,000 Chandelier Stakes at 1 1/16 miles.

A Breeders' Cup “Win & You're In” Challenge Race Qualifier, the winner of the Chandelier will earn a fees-paid berth into the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies on Nov. 4 at Keeneland.

Trained by John Shirreffs and ridden by Victor Espinoza, Justique was off slowly and devoid of early foot in her 5 ½ furlong debut July 31 at Del Mar, but hit her best stride around the far turn and won with consummate ease while geared down some three lengths clear of next-out winner Home Cooking in an eye-catching effort.

By 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify out of the Bernardini mare Grazie Millie, Justique sold for $725,000 as a Keeneland September Yearling and has every right to be any kind of filly.

Huntingcoco, one of two Bob Baffert entrants, was a scintillating first-out maiden winner going 5 ½ furlongs on Sept. 4, winning by 6 ¾ lengths while earning a Chandelier-best last out Beyer Speed Figure of 77. She'll get a new rider in Edwin Maldonado, as Ramon Vazquez has apparently opted to stick with G1 Del Mar Debutante winner And Tell Me Nolies.

Owned by Villa Rosa Farm, Inc. and Harlo Stable, Huntingcoco is a Pennsylvania-bred filly by Practical Joke out of the Maria's Mon mare Sulis.

Trained by Peter Miller, And Tell Me Nolies was dismissed at 9-1 in the Del Mar Debutante, but ran down heavily favored Home Cooking to win by a head in a solid effort. A game neck maiden winner going 6 ½ furlongs on Aug. 14, she'll be ridden for the fourth consecutive time by Ramon Vazquez as she tries a route of ground for the first time.

Owned by Peter Redekop B.C., Ltd., And Tell Me Nolies is by Arrogate out of the Exchange Rate mare Be Fair. Kentucky-bred, she earned a 71 Beyer in winning the Del Mar Debutante.

A 9 ¼ length maiden winner going 5 ½ furlongs on Aug. 21, Home Cooking was subsequently off as the 3-5 favorite in the Del Mar Debutante. Although she bobbled slightly leaving the gate, Home Cooking appeared to have the Debutante won as she led by three lengths a furlong out but shortened stride and was tagged on the money by And Tell Me Nolies.

Owned by Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman, Home Cooking, by Honor Code out of the Hard Spun mare Olympic Avenue, has been favored in all three of her races.
