FanDuel Announces $1 Million Fantasy Contest Tied To Breeders’ Cup Mile

The Breeders' Cup, one of Thoroughbred racing's most prestigious international events, today announced a $1 million fantasy contest in collaboration with FanDuel Group, the premier gaming destination in the United States and the official wagering partner of the Breeders' Cup World Championships. Titled the Breeders' Cup $1 Mil Perfect Finish Free Play, the new fantasy contest gives fans the chance to win $1 million by accurately predicting the finishing order of one of the weekend's highly renowned races: the FanDuel Breeders' Cup Mile presented by the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund.

The contest, live now on FanDuel.com and open until 3:15 PM ET on Saturday, Nov. 7, tasks players to slot each of the field's competing horses into a finishing position of 1 through 14. Fans should tune-in to NBC on Saturday, Nov. 7 starting at 2:30 PM ET to watch the race live and view the results in real time. Entrants will collect points for each horse whose placement they correctly predicted. $20,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3,100 participants on the leaderboard. If anyone can correctly predict the finishing order of all 14 horses in the FanDuel Breeders' Cup Mile, they will win or share the $1 Million prize.

“As anticipation builds for the upcoming Breeders' Cup World Championships, we are excited to offer daily fantasy players and racing enthusiasts a free way to have a real stake in the action this weekend,” said Justin McDonald, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Breeders' Cup. “We thank our partners at FanDuel for their support and commitment to creating this fun and interactive contest.”

“FanDuel has been offering free daily fantasy contests to our customers around horse racing's marquee events and we are capping off a successful year with a special $1 million free to play contest to celebrate TVG and FanDuel's partnership with the Breeders' Cup,” said Matt King, CEO of FanDuel Group. “FanDuel Group is committed to growing the sport and fantasy contests for horse racing are a great way to bring new fans to horse racing's premier event.”

FanDuel Group, which includes the TVG and FanDuel brands, was first introduced as an official partner of the Breeders' Cup in 2019. This year, two of FanDuel Group's major charity partners will be incorporated into the naming rights for their sponsored races, officially designating the races as the FanDuel Breeders' Cup Mile presented by PDJF and the TVG Breeders' Cup Juvenile presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance.

The 37th running of the Breeders' Cup World Championships is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky. The event will be broadcast live on NBC, NBCSN, NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app, as well as on BreedersCup.com and the Official Breeders' Cup mobile app. To learn more about this year's event, please visit BreedersCup.com/2020.

Breeders’ Cup To Partner With EquiLottery Games For Two Championships Races

Kentucky Lottery players can be part of the action at this week's Breeders' Cup World Championships as two races will be featured in Kentucky's Win Place Show game. In its first year of operation, the live horse racing lottery game is available at thousands of lottery terminals across the state.

Kentucky Lottery players will be able to buy a quick pick lottery ticket which includes three horses featured in the TVG Breeders' Cup Juvenile presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance on Friday, Nov. 6 and the Longines Breeders' Cup Classic on Saturday, Nov. 7. This year's edition of the Breeders' Cup is being held at the historic Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky.

“It was my first trip to the Breeders' Cup in 2009 that gave me the idea for what it is now Win Place Show,” said EquiLottery Games Founder and CEO Brad Cummings. “I was so captured by the excitement of this two-day event and out of that experience, I was inspired to develop a way to bring new people to a sport that had eluded me until my 30s. Having the Breeders' Cup join our iconic catalog of sports brands is literally a dream come true. We look forward to bringing these exceptional races to players all across the Commonwealth.”

Players will be able to purchase Win Place Show tickets based on the two Breeders' Cup races on Nov. 6 and 7 at any Kentucky Lottery retailer. All tickets are two dollars and quick pick-only which means players do not have to be an expert in horse racing to win money at the races through Win Place Show. Each ticket has a QR code that allows players to download the Win Place Show mobile app. Players will be directed to the NBC telecast for the live stream and back to the mobile app for race replays. As part of this collaboration, the Kentucky Lottery and Win Place Show will be holding social media contests and placing in-store signage in nearly all locations to build excitement and awareness around the game.

“We are excited to be running the upcoming Breeders' Cup World Championships in Kentucky and to be able to bring the races to all Kentucky Lottery players through the Win Place Show game,” said Breeders' Cup Senior Vice President, Marketing Justin McDonald. “As always, the event will showcase the top Thoroughbred talent in the world, and this year fans in Kentucky will have even more reason to cheer and tune-in to NBC Sports thanks to Win Place Show.”

The Breeders' Cup joins a growing list of iconic sports brands that have teamed up with EquiLottery Games to grow this live sports lottery game category. Over the past year, EquiLottery Games has announced licensing agreements with iconic sports brands including Major League Baseball, NASCAR, the National Basketball Association, and the Preakness Stakes. Win Place Show has been developed in partnership with AmTote International and 1 S/T Technologies, the leader in horse racing technology.

Milestone In The Breeders’ Cup? Pletcher Has Five Chances To Hit 5,000 During World Championships

Trainer Todd Pletcher said it would be “kind of cool” to hit his next career milestone during this weekend's Breeders' Cup World Championships. Heading into this weekend's action, Pletcher has saddled a total of 4,999 winners; on his next trip to the winner's circle, the trainer will become be just the eighth in history to reach 5,000 victories.

“It's a tribute to a lot of great horses over the years,” Pletcher said from Keeneland on Tuesday. “A lot of hard work from a lot of people. It really takes a huge team to supervise all that, so we're grateful, we're hoping it happens soon.”

That milestone win could come at Gulfstream Park on Thursday with Seize The Hay in a claiming race, or in a pair of undercard stakes at Keeneland on Friday (Mo Ready and No Word in the Bryan Station, or Farmington Road and You're To Blame in the G2 TAA Stakes, formerly the Marathon).

Should none of those five make their way to the winner's circle, Pletcher will have three shots to hit the milestone during the Future Stars Friday at the World Championships. Those chances include: Mutasaabeq (Juvenile Turf, 5-1), Union Gables (Juvenile Filly Turf, 20-1), and Likeable (Juvenile, 15-1).

Alternatively, a pair of entrants at Aqueduct on Friday (Microsecond and Malathaat) might be his next trainee in the winner's circle.

Another two Breeders' Cup entrants present opportunities on Saturday: Halladay in the Mile (12-1) and Valiance in the Distaff (12-1).

The lowest odds on a Pletcher trainee in this year's Breeders' Cup are the 5-1 morning line chance given to Mutasaabeq in the Juvenile Turf. Considering he won the the Classic last year with Vino Rosso, Pletcher acknowledged that this year's Championships have a slightly different feel.

“Last year we were fortunate enough to not only win the Classic, but coming in we felt like we had a big chance,” Pletcher said. “We're coming in with a little different group this year. We have some young horses that are doing really well, but we don't have that clear-cut standout.

“It seems like a lot of times you get right on the cusp of the milestone and then have trouble getting through. We had five chances at Belmont last weekend and we couldn't quite get there, but I suppose if it were to happen in a Breeders' Cup race, it'd be kind of cool.”

Thanks to the National Turfwriters and Broadcasters Association (NTWAB), which has assembled a group of pool reporters providing independent reporting to members unable to be on the Keeneland grounds this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
