Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge Registration Kicks Off

Registration for the 2022 Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC) opened Thursday. In its 14th year, the challenge will crown the winner with the highest accumulated bankroll at the end of the two-day Breeders' Cup World Championships. This year's Breeders' Cup will be held at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky., Nov. 4-5.

The 2022 BCBC total cash prize pool is expected to be $1.25 million based upon a minimum of 500 players registered. Players may participate in the BCBC from Keeneland (host site), official satellite locations at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J., and Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif.

Players can also participate online at www.TVG.com–the official wagering partner of the Breeders' Cup–Xpressbet.com, NYRA Bets (non-New York State residents only), 4NJBets.com (New Jersey residents only) and HPIbet.com (Canadian residents only).

For the 2022 BCBC, a $2,500 buy-in and $7,500 betting bankroll ($10,000 total) are required of each player. All buy-in monies are applied to the prize pool. Players can bet into the Win, Place, Show, Exacta, Trifecta, and Daily Double pools with their $7,500 bankroll over the two days (22 races) and keep all monies earned from their betting.

Zhou Captures 2022 Belmont Stakes Challenge

Tournament veteran Tony Zhou bested a field of 68 horseplayers to capture the 2022 Belmont Stakes Challenge, which was contested online via NYRA Bets and on-track at Belmont Park during the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival.

Zhou, a 38-year-old New York City resident, took home $85,800 in prize money plus $52,945.50 in live bankroll for a total of $138,745.50. With the victory, Zhou secured a seat at the 2022 Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge in November at Keeneland.

The Belmont Stakes Challenge was a live-money contest featuring a $5,000 Entry Fee [$3,500 in Live Money Wagers/$1,500 to Prize Pool], contributing to a prize pool that the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) seeded with $50,000 – including $40,000 to the winner and $10,000 to the runner-up.

Contestants were permitted to make Win, Place, Show, Exacta, Trifecta, Quinella, and Daily Double wagers and required to wager a minimum of $200 per race on at least five separate Challenge Races conducted on Friday; and an additional $500 per race on a minimum of five separate Challenge Races conducted on Saturday.

“After 3rd and 2nd place finishes in previous years, getting this win in a major brought pure joy,” Zhou said via Twitter. “My 1st day at the races was Belmont Stakes 2010 when I left with an empty wallet. I vowed to figure out the game and with some hard work and deliberate practice, things do work out!”

Nick Cosato Wins Del Mar Fall Challenge, 2022 BCBC Entry

Nick Cosato from Sierra Madre, CA, scored huge in the last race of the Del Mar Fall Challenge played on-track at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in Del Mar, Calif., or online through TVG.com. Cosato, lying second going into the last race, vaulted into the lead and more with large exacta and trifecta payoffs totaling more than $18,000 for a final score of $29,602.

In addition to Cosato's bankroll winnings, he receives $20,500 in cash and a $10,000 Breeders Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC) 2022 entry.

Second place finisher Michael Webb of Jessup, MD ended with a bankroll of $19,624 and a cash prize of $10,500. Kevin Bogart finished third good for $7,500 in prizes. Both Christy and Kevin also receive $10,000 BCBC entries.

Third and fourth-place finishers Dylan Donnelly from Rancho Cucamonga and Jorge Palza of Richmond, CA both won BCBC $10,000 entries.

Donnelly and 5th place finisher Eric Roth win 2022 National Horseplayers Championship (NHC) entries.

The live money Challenge had a buy-in of $3,000 with $2,000 going to the player starting bankroll and $1,000 to the prize pool.

Registration for Thoroughbred racing's biggest live-money handicapping tournament ― the 2021 Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC) ― is now open.

The Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge, now in its 13th year, annually draws the top horseplayers from around North America, and will crown the winner with the highest accumulated bankroll at the end of the two-day Breeders' Cup World Championships. Marshall Gramm of Memphis, Tenn., won the tournament hitting a cold exacta of Authentic and Improbable in the Longines Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), which earned him 170,250 points. Combined with his first-place prize of $322,500, Gramm had total winnings of $492,750.
