Curlin Daughter of Indian Blessing Scores at Santa Anita

4th-Santa Anita, $62,000, Msw, 6-4, 3, 4,/5yo, f/m, 6f, 1:11.29, ft, 3/4 length.

HALOSNHEAVEN (f, 3, Curlin–Indian Blessing {Ch. 2-year-old Filly, Ch. Female Sprinter, MGISW-USA, G1SP-UAE, $2,995,420}, by Indian Charlie) shrugged off nearly 10 months on the bench to post a sharp even-money maiden victory at Santa Anita. The Earnhardt homebred wasn't overly quick out of the gate, but was quick to establish position, angling up to third on the outside by the :22.31 first quarter mark. Halosnheaven challenged for the lead while three across at the :44.95 half-mile, swapped leads, got her neck in front at the sizzling :57.66 five-eighths, and pulled clear down the lane under Joe Bravo for a three-quarter length win. Debuting Colette's Joy (Connect) chased her home in second. After two sharp runner-up efforts last summer at Del Mar–first to eventual GSP Satin Doll (Congrats) and then to eventual GISW And Tell Me Nolies (Arrogate)–Halosnheaven returned to the official worktab May 3. Her last three works, including a five-furlong move in :59 (1/29) at Santa Anita, have all been bullets. The winner is a half to Ten Blessings (Smart Strike), GISP, $162,610; and their dam is a dual champion, Breeders' Cup winner, and five-time Grade I winner. Indian Blessing's most recent foals include Dagger Ranch, a 2-year-old full-brother to Halosnheaven, and an Apr. 4 colt by Charlatan.  Lifetime Record: 3-1-2-0, $68,600. Bolt d’Oro Colt Mows Them Down at Woodbine

5th-Woodbine, C$76,426, Msw, 6-4, 2yo, 5f (AWT), :59.02, ft, 1 1/2 lengths.

TRIPLE TREA (c, 2, Bolt d'Oro–Urloveisasymphony, by Forest Wildcat)–who signaled his readiness with a bullet :35 three-furlong move (1/70) May 21 over the Woodbine synthetic, followed by a May 28 half-mile training track work in :49 1/5 (8/21)–may have given his connections a few anxious moments as he broke a step slowly and took his time against a field of fellow first-timers. The dark bay raced in sixth and in the clear through a :23.11 quarter, had just moved up to fifth as the timer tripped in :46.43 for the half, and finally shifted into another gear for the last eighth, inhaling the competition late. The 1 1/2-length margin belied the ease of Triple Trea's victory. Favored Bucyk (Speightstown) finished second. The 7-2 winner hails from the same family as MGSW Phantom Currency (Goldencents). His dam died in 2021. Sales History: $75,000 Ylg '22 FTKOCT. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $32,185. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG.

High-Priced Hejazi Breaks Maiden At Santa Anita

1st-Santa Anita, $68,000, Msw, 1-15, 3yo, 6 1/2f, 1:14.58, gd,1 1/4 lengths.

HEJAZI (c, 3, Bernardini–G Note, by Medaglia d'Oro), the $3,550,000 EASMAY sale-topper, finally got the monkey off his back Sunday, winning a rescheduled maiden special weight contest at Santa Anita. Bested by SW Classical Cat (Mendelssohn) after a slow start when first seen at Del Mar Aug. 20, it took a track-record setting effort by stablemate and GSW Speed Boat Beach (Bayern) to best him again Sept. 10. Third in a Bob Baffert exacta topped by Cave Rock (Arrogate) in the GI American Pharoah S., Hejazi returned to the favorite's role in an overmatched field Sunday as the 1-2 favorite. Breaking just a half-step slow from the inside gate, Mike Smith allowed his mount to move up to set the tempo with Sully (Uncle Mo) pressuring to his outside. Still in command as he swung for home, Hejazi had enough of a gap built up through the final sixteenth to safely hold off a closing Worcester and win by 1 1/4 lengths.

“We gave him some time, gave him a chance to re-boot,” said winning trainer Bob Baffert. “We wanted to get some weight back on him. We put him through a pretty ambitious (three-race sequence). Mike got him to relax a little bit. Once I saw him out there cruising… We're gonna have fun with him.”

G Note, herself a half-sister to the dams of GSW Un Ojo (Laoban) and SW & GSP Fingal's Cave (Carpe Diem), traces back to MGISW Antespend (Spend a Buck) and GI Florida Derby winner Friends Lake (A.P. Indy). She produced a 2-year-old colt by Practical Joke, a yearling colt by Improbable, and was barren to Rock Your World for 2023. Sales History: $3,550,000 2yo '22 EASMAY. Lifetime Record: GISP, 4-1-2-1, $108,200. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG.
