Six Set For Phoenix Test

Saturday's G1 Keeneland Phoenix S. at The Curragh has attracted a high-class sextet including a duo from Ballydoyle bidding to provide Aidan O'Brien with a 17th renewal. Ryan Moore is booked for the June 15 Listed Windsor Castle S. and July 16 G3 Anglesey S.-winning 'TDN Rising Star' Little Big Bear (Ire) (No Nay Never), with Seamie Heffernan due to partner the stable's May 2 Listed First Flier S., May 21 G3 Marble Hill S. and July 17 G2 Prix Robert Papin scorer Blackbeard (Ire) (No Nay Never). Victorious Racing's June 14 G2 Coventry S.-winning 'TDN Rising Star' Bradsell (GB) (Tasleet {GB}) renews rivalry with Amo Racing Limited's Persian Force (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}), who was second behind him in that Royal Ascot contest before garnering Newmarket's G2 July S. July 7. The Aga Khan's Shartash (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) and E S Racing's Apache Outlaw (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}) complete the field, having been first and third when Blackbeard was second in the course-and-distance G2 Railway S. June 25.

Bradsell's trainer Archie Watson said, “He was obviously very impressive at Ascot and the form has worked out well. He's very, very talented. I do try to keep things understated and let the horses do the talking, but his home work is very good–the best of anything I've trained in terms of what he's done on the gallops. It's very hard to find him a lead horse because he'll just gallop all over Glen Shiel (GB) (Pivotal {GB}), a Group 1 winner, and Tabdeed (GB) (Havana Gold {Ire}), who was second in the Stewards' Cup the other day. They'd struggle to lead him very far at all.”

Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Catalogue Features A Half-Sister To Eddie’s Boy

A total of 313 yearlings have been catalogued for the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale on Sept. 6. Bradsell (GB) (Tasleet {GB}), the winner of the 2022 G2 Coventry S., is a graduate of the inaugural sale last year, as is Weatherbys Super Sprint victor Eddie's Boy (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}), and listed winner New Collection (GB) (Brazen Beau {Aus}). There are full- or half-siblings to 58 group and listed performers. In addition, 43 yearlings are out of mares who earned listed or group black type while racing.

Lot 66, a Washington DC (Ire) half-sister to Eddie's Boy from Bearstone Stud is a lot of note. Some of the other highlights include a Profitable (Ire) half-brother to G2 Shannon S. winner Yonkers (Medaglia d'Oro) (lot 125) from Lynn Lodge Stud; Bearstone will offer a Mayson (GB) half-brother to group winner and G1 Commonwealth Cup S. third Ventura Rebel (GB) (Pastoral Pursuits {GB}) as lot 218; lot 73, a Profitable (Ire) half-sister to G1 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 hero Salute The Soldier (Ger) (Sepoy {Aus}) is part of The National Stud draft; and Dark Angel's lot 49, is a half-sister to group winners Amade (Ire) (Casamento {Ire}) and Nakuti (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) from Castledillon Stud.

All yearlings catalogued are eligible for the £100,000 Tattersalls Somerville Auction S., as well as the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction S., held five weeks later. In addition, 88 fillies are registered for the Great British Bonus Scheme and are eligible to win up to £20,000 in bonus prize-money per qualifying race.

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said, “It is a fitting tribute to the sale's ethos of precocious, well conformed yearlings that the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale and its predecessor the Tattersalls Ascot Yearling Sale have produced Royal Ascot 2-year-old winners for two consecutive years. The strength of last year's sale and the outstanding season enjoyed by its graduates to date has resulted in a catalogue of real quality and depth. We are also looking forward to the inaugural £100,000 Tattersalls Somerville Auction S. which provides an additional incentive to buyers, alongside the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale's burgeoning reputation as a consistent source of top-class juvenile talent.”

Tasleet’s Bradsell Best In The Coventry

Becoming the first of the TDN Rising Stars to emerge successful at Royal Ascot in 2022, Victorious Racing Limited's Bradsell (GB) (Tasleet {GB}–Russian Punch {GB}, by Archipenko) conquered a host of talent to win the G2 Coventry S. under Hollie Doyle. Keen initially from her draw in the centre, the Archie Watson-trained £47,000 Goffs UK Breeze-Up graduate tracked Royal Scotsman (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}) to two out and after taking over soon after forged away for a 1 1/2-length verdict over Persian Force (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}), who edged Royal Scotsman by a neck for second.

Tasleet’s Bradsell Tabbed a ‘TDN Rising Star’ At York

Bradsell (GB) (Tasleet {GB}) was making his first start on Saturday and the word was out on the Archie Watson trainee, as he became the first 'TDN Rising Star' for his dual group-winning sire. Racing on the far side of the field, the 2-1 crowd's pick was always part of the early pace discussion less than a length off the leaders. Under a quiet ride from P.J. McDonald, he edged ahead a long way out and put his rivals to the sword by a visually impressive nine lengths without ever being asked a serious question to become the fourth winner for his first-season sire (by Showcasing {GB}), who was also placed multiple times at Group 1 level. Godolphin's Northcliff (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}) emerged the best of the rest in second.

Originally offered by Bearstone Stud at the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale, the February foal brought 12,000gns from Highflyer Bloodstock and Harry Dunlop. He was re-offered by Mark Grant Racing at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale, bringing £47,000 on a bid from Blandford Bloodstock in April.

A son of the listed winner Russian Punch, he is the fourth foal from his dam. Her latest offspring is a yearling colt by Ulysses (Ire), while her 2022 foal by Twilight Son (GB) died. This is the extended family of the G1 Phoenix S. runner-up Run to Jenny (Ire) (Runnett {GB}).
