Youalmosthadme Dominates Keeneland’s Myrtlewood

Cut loose in the lane and rolling home, Youalmosthadme (f, 2, Oxbow–Good Gator, by Good and Tough) gave them the slip on the cut back from a mile and dominated the Myrtlewood S. to pick up her second career black type victory.

Last seen finishing second behind long-gone GIII Pocahontas victress 'TDN Rising Star' V V's Dream (Mitole), who finished second to Candied (Candy Ride {Arg}) in the GI Darley Alcibiades earlier in the month, Youalmosthadme already tallied an open length maiden score over this track in the spring and won the Kentucky Juvenile S. in May at Churchill after moving from John Hancock to Brad Cox. She also hit the board in Ellis Park's Debutante S. in August.

Breaking well and stalking from second as the pacesetter put up brisk early fractions of :22.77 and :45.63, she took a short lead passing the half before opening up on the field heading for the line. Under moderate urging, she sailed home seven lengths best over familiar foe Hot Beach (Omaha Beach) and Fibber (Frosted) ran on strongly to round out the trifecta.

Conditioner Brad Cox had high praise in the winner's enclosure for his filly's ability to go from routes to sprinting: “Obviously [it takes] a very sound [horse] and an intelligent one, and she's both. I'm very proud of her performance today. [Jockey] Tyler [Gaffalione] did a good job. He put her into position and she fired.”

“She's been acting in the mornings that–without a doubt–she'd improved over the last month or so. I like what I've seen from her since the GIII Pocahontas (at Churchill Downs Sept. 16, when she finished second going a mile), and I think the cutback helped out a good bit today as well.”

While not willing to commit to limiting Youalmosthadme to one turn races, Cox did confirm that she would stay there for the near future.

Out of Good Gator, Youalmosthadme is the most successful of her siblings thus far, and the third winner from four to the races. She also has a yearling Get Stormy half-sister. The victress hails from the female line of GSP May Gator, who also claims MGSW Miz Ida (Proud Citizen) and SW Gator Zone (Sharp Humor) to her tally. Curlin’s Rocketeer Wins Nicely In Keeneland Debut

8th-Keeneland, $100,000, Msw, 10-26, 2yo, 7f, 1:28.82, ft, 4 lengths.
ROCKETEER (c, 2, Curlin–Thirteen Arrows {MSW, $277,375}, by Indian Charlie) went off at 3-1 in this debut spot and was forwardly placed just off pacesetting World Fair (Tapiture). The top pair moved through opening fractions of :22.97 and :46.63 before Rocketeer made his run to strike the front with an outside move passing the quarter pole. The class of the field in the run to the wire, the Brad Cox trainee cruised home to win by four lengths over 25-1 longshot D Day Sky (Omaha Bech). $1.5m yearling Stop the Press (Uncle Mo) was never a factor after a slow beginning and came home sixth. Thirteen Arrows, a $575,000 broodmare purchase out the 2016 FTKNOV sale, is a half-sister to GISW and sire Cross Traffic (Unbridled's Song) and also to the dam of SW/MGISP Gulfport (Uncle Mo). Her Into Mischief yearling colt brought a final bid of $525,000 from Repole Stable at this year's KEESEP sale and she reported a filly by the same stallion this Spring before visiting Life Is Good for 2024. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $57,350. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by FanDuel TV.

Beautifully Bred Bernardini Filly Airs En Route To ‘Rising Star’ Honors

Godolphin homebred Tarifa (f, 2, Bernardini–Kite Beach, by Awesome Again), possessed of a pedigree that says longer and maybe a bit later, defied both of those premises to graduate over an extended seven-furlong trip Wednesday at Keeneland, winning off by open lengths to become the newest 'TDN Rising Star' and 21st overall for her sadly departed sire.

Backed like a good thing to be off at odds of 14-5 (2.83-1) from a 6-1 morning line, the dark bay was a forward factor just in behind the early pacesetters and jockey Florent Geroux had his work cut out for him to prevent his filly from running up on heels. Given her head with about 3 1/2 furlongs to race, Tarifa continued to travel ominously well on the turn and weaved her way through a bit of traffic to be right there when the real running began at the top of the lane. She put favored Snow Dance (Commissioner) to the sword at the three-sixteenths pole and opened up at will from there to take it by a half-dozen very convincing lengths.

Godophin acquired Tarifa's second dam Tizdubai (Cee's Tizzy) for $950,000 at the Keeneland November about two months after her full-brother Tiznow recorded the second of his two consecutive victories in the 2001 GI Breeders' Cup Classic. She was also a full-sister to MGSW and Classic runner-up Budroyale.

Kite Beach, whose half-sister Fancy Day (Ire) (Shamardal) produced MGSW Cabo Spirit (Pioneerof the Nile), was purchased by M T Stable at KEENOV in 2021 and to Calumet Farm for $115,000 at the 2022 Fasig-Tipton February sale. The mare produced a full-sister to Tarifa who sold to Matthew Davis for $105,000 at this year's Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July sale and foaled a colt by Knicks Go this season. The latter's sire Paynter is by Awesome Again and out of Tizso, another full-sister to Tiznow. Kite Beach was bred to Lexitonian this year.
