MyRacehorse to Offer Shares in Yearlings with $2M Bonus

MyRacehorse will offer ownership in six yearlings that were purchased at the recent Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale of selected yearlings. The yearlings, referred to as the “Fasig Select Six, each come with a $2-million bonus designed specifically for horses purchased by MyRacehorse at the 2021 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale. For colts, the bonus would be paid if any were to win the GI Kentucky Derby and for the fillies, the bonus would be paid for a GI Kentucky Oaks victory. Unlike past MyRacehorse offerings, where bonuses were split in partnership with co-owners, these bonuses would be paid out exclusively to MyRacehorse shareholders.

“Our goal is to provide fans access to horses that have the opportunity to become classic horses; elite horses, racing on the biggest days for the biggest prizes,” said Michael Behrens, CEO & Founder of MyRacehorse. “The Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale provided us the opportunity to navigate through a select set of impeccably bred, well-conformed horses that are sure to have several champions amongst the crop. We walked away with many of our favorites and are excited so many fans will have the opportunity to participate in this level of quality.”

The Fasig Select Six is comprised of:

  • Who Runs the World, a Quality Road filly out of Lucy N Ethel for $104/share
  • Tufnel, a colt by Into Mischief out of Count to Eleven for $62/share
  • A first-crop Justify filly out of Essential Rose for $105/share
  • Classic Cut, an Empire Maker colt out of Bluejeans for $51/share
  • Balletic, an Into Mischief filly out of RicketyRacketyRuss for $80/share
  • A Quality Road colt out of Song of Bernadette for $97/share

Over $500,000 In Participation Incentive Awards Available At Canterbury Park

Canterbury Park racing officials, with support from the Minnesota HBPA, have announced new 2021 participation incentive programs designed to reward owners that send horses ready to race at the start of the meet. In addition, trainers and owners wishing to participate at the Shakopee, Minn. track may apply for a loan to be used for the transport of horses arriving prior to the start of the 65-day season. In total, more than $500,000 will be made available to assist and support the arrival of a race-ready horse population in advance of the 2021 season which runs May 18 through Sept. 16.

Owners of Thoroughbred starters in open-company overnight races during the first eight days of racing from May 18 through May 31 will earn an additional $1,000 participation bonus per start. This bonus applies to each start a horse makes during that time and will be paid directly into the owner's account through the bookkeeper's office.

“We want horses to arrive at Canterbury Park ready to enter and compete,” Vice President of Racing Operations Andrew Offerman said. “This participation bonus puts extra money in the hands of racehorse owners in addition to purse money they may earn and is designed to directly offset transportation expenses incurred to get to Minnesota.”

In 2020, Canterbury Park saw total handle increase by 68 percent despite running 21 percent fewer races. The $68.4 million in handle was a record for the track. Per starter handle was up 115 percent to $18,902. Field size averaged 7.24 thoroughbreds per race.

“It was important last year to start strong and make an impression on the national racing audience. Offering large and competitive fields accomplished that and we are prepared to build on this growth in wagering interest in 2021,” Offerman said. “The bonus not only assists owners in covering expenses at the start of the season, it grows field size and thus handle which in turn drive purses.”

Canterbury Park recently announced across the board increases in its overnight purse structure which meet or in some cases exceed 2019 overnight purses. In total, purses are anticipated to average approximately $230,000 per race day or a nearly 20 percent per day increase in 2021 as compared to 2020.

The shipping loan program is offered to qualified applicants who arrive prior to the start of the 2021 season. Shipping loan applications will be due with stall applications by April 2 and will be reviewed by the stall allocation committee which includes Director of Racing and Racing Secretary Robert Junk. The committee will authorize up to $25,000 per owner to cover the cost of horse transportation to Canterbury Park. The loan will be repaid through an agreement between the successful applicant and the track.

$1 Million ‘Wild West Bonus’ Created For Winner Of Big ‘Cap, Gold Cup, Pacific Classic

Santa Anita Park and the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club have announced they have joined forces to create the $1 Million Wild West Bonus. This will provide $1 million in additional money to the winning connections of any horse that manages to sweep three of Southern California's most prestigious Grade 1 races; the $400,000 Santa Anita Handicap on March 6, the $300,000 Hollywood Gold Cup (at Santa Anita) on May 31 and the $750,000 TVG Pacific Classic at Del Mar on Aug. 21.

Including the $1 million bonus, any horse sweeping these three races would bank a total of $1,870,000.

All three races are run at the North American classic distance of a mile and one quarter. The Santa Anita Handicap, which will be run for the 84th time, is for horses aged four and up, while the Hollywood Gold Cup and TVG Pacific Classic are open to horses three and up.

Santa Anita has also announced that it will boost the $75,000 China Doll Stakes, to be run on Big 'Cap Day, March 6, by $25,000, from $75,000 to $100,000. The China Doll, for 3-year-old fillies at one mile on turf, is one of five stakes, four of them graded.

Additionally, Santa Anita will raise purses on all overnight races to be run on Big 'Cap Day by $15,000 per race in an effort to ensure big fields and to reward those owners and trainers that continue to support Santa Anita on its biggest days.

The Haskell will be contested for the 53rd time on July 18 when it headlines a stakes-filled program. The $3 million Kentucky Derby has been re-scheduled to Saturday, Sept. 5, from its traditional first Saturday in May slot due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
