Wesley Ward has a pair of Keeneland-based juveniles entered in this spot. Breeze Easy’s Roderick (Into Mischief) was a $550,000 KEESEP yearling and is a full-brother to two-turn GSW One Liner. He hails from the extended female family of highest-level winners Albertus Maximus, Daredevil and King Charlemagne. Roderick’s stablemate Copley (Air Force Blue) is from a Ned Evans family that includes the likes of Grade I winners Swagger Jack and Malibu Prayer. Winfromwithin (Into Mischief), just a $100,000 September yearling, was produced by a half-sister to turf MGSW and MGISP Shakis (Ire) (Machiavellian). Zebra Cake (Runhappy), yet another September buy ($200,000), is out of a half to GSW Mo Tom (Uncle Mo) and SW and MGISP juvenile Beautician (Dehere). Further down the page is talented GII Black-Eyed Susan S. winner Red Ruby (Tiznow). Bob Baffert will saddle a pair of well-bred fillies here. Newcomer Provocation (Into Mischief), a $350,000 OBS April pick-up last year (:20 3/5), is out of GISW Meadow Breeze (Meadowlake), making her a half to ‘TDN Rising Star‘ and turf GSW Magic Star (Scat Daddy) and GISP juvenile Royal Copy (Bodemeister). Meadow Breeze is half to GISW Overanalyze (Dixie Union), GISP Majesto (Tiznow) and GSP Mighty Monsoon (Forestry). Grand Farm Family’s Himiko (American Pharoah), a $1-million Fasig-Tipton November weanling, was eighth with some trouble when debuting in a turf sprint here May 16. She’s a half to the talented GISW and fellow Baffert pupil Bodemeister (Empire Maker). GSW and GISP dam Untouched Talent (Storm Cat), a $5,000,000 Fasig-Tipton November seller in 2012, is also responsible for MGISP Fascinating (Smart Strike). Collusion Illusion Headlines Short Field in Lazaro Barrera

Collusion Illusion (Twirling Candy) tops a five-horse renewal of the GIII Lazaro Barrera S. Saturday at Santa Anita. Opening his account with a pair of wins last summer at Del Mar, including the GII Best Pal S., the bay was pulled up and walked off in the GI American Pharoah S. when trying two turns at Santa Anita Sept. 27. Cut back to six panels for his sophomore bow in Arcadia May 17, he scored a decisive three-length victory.

Ragtime Blues (Union Rags) represents the powerhouse barn of Bob Baffert. Runner-up to the reopposing Howbeit (Secret Circle) on debut at Los Alamitos in September, the bay graduated next out at Oaklawn Apr. 24 and followed suit with an optional claimer score in Arcadia May 25.

Alcools (Gemologist) won on debut on the synthetic at Woodbine for owner/trainer Wayne Rice last August, after which he was privately purchased by Pantofel Stable, Wachtel Stable and Gary Barber and transferred to Peter Miller. Ninth in the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Turf Sprint S. Sept. 7, he was sixth next out sprinting on dirt at Keeneland Oct. 5 and romped by 6 3/4 lengths going two turns on the Churchill main track 22 days later.

Rounding out the field is Phantom Boss (Shackleford), winner of the GIII Bashford Manor S. last term. He was last seen finishing fourth when trying turf in the local Desrto Code S. June 6 and the aforementioned Howbeit was also fourth last time in a main track optional claimer her May 25.

Unbeatens Meet Grade I Winner in Acorn

Unbeaten ‘TDN Rising Star’ Gamine (Into Mischief) will look to take her record to a perfect three-for-three while making her stakes debut in the GI Longines Acorn S. at Belmont Park Saturday.

The highly regarded $1.8-million Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-old sale topper debuted with the easiest of victories as the 1-9 favorite sprinting at Santa Anita Mar. 7, then gamely held off the hard-knocking subsequent GII Santa Oaks runner-up Speech (Mr Speaker) by a neck in front-running fashion in her two-turn debut in an optional claimer at Oaklawn May 2. The even-money morning-line favorite will be on the engine from her rail draw with Hall of Famer Johnny Velazquez in the irons.

“We took our time with her, let her develop,” Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert said of the Michael Lund Petersen colorbearer. “Her two races have been really nice races. I could have stayed home and run her here two turns in the [Santa Anita] Oaks, but I wanted to give her a couple extra weeks. I thought the Acorn with the bigger, wider turns, I think she’ll like that. And it’s a lot of prestige.”

Perfect Alibi (Sky Mesa), heroine of last summer’s GI Spinaway S. at Saratoga, is the seven-horse field’s lone graded winner. A well-beaten second behind British Idiom (Flashback) in the GI Darley Alcibiades S. at Keeneland Oct. 4, she kicks off her sophomore season following a fourth-place finish behind last year’s champion 2-year-old filly in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita.

“She’s been ready to run for about three months,” newly minted Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse said. “She’s always been very, very professional. If anything, she’s a little better work horse than she was. Last year, if you wanted to give some confidence to another horse you’d just work them with her because she’d let anybody beat her–except when they run in the afternoon. This year and recently, she’s been a little more aggressive in her works.”

The lightly raced and unbeaten Casual (Curlin) paired up 90 Beyer Speed Figures in a pair of hard-fought tallies, including an optional claimer going seven furlongs at Churchill Downs last time May 22. She makes her stakes debut for Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen here.

Collusion Illusion, Ragtime Blues Faceoff In Lazaro Barrera Stakes

Fresh off a huge allowance score going six furlongs, trainer Mark Glatt's talented Collusion Illusion will stretch out  a half-furlong and make his second start off an extended vacation as he heads Saturday's Grade 3, $100,000 Lazaro Barrera Stakes at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif.  The Barrera, named for the late Hall of Fame trainer, has attracted a field of five sophomores going 6 ½  furlongs.

Bob Baffert's speedy Ragtime Blues, a winner of his last two starts, will get the first time services of Mike Smith and also figures prominently in what will be his fourth career start.

An impressive winner of the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar in his second start on July 21, this Florida-bred colt by Twirling Candy was then eased in the Grade 1, 1 1/16 mile American Pharoah Stakes at Santa Anita on Sept. 27 and didn't resurface until May 17, whereupon he was a dazzling three-length allowance winner from off the pace going six furlongs.  With Flavien Prat engaged to ride him back, Collusion Illusion looms large in the Barrera.

Second in his 5 ½-furlong debut at Los Alamitos on Sept. 21, this colt by Union Rags made his next start on April 24 at Oaklawn Park, as he led throughout and broke his maiden by a head going six furlongs.  Ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr., at Santa Anita on May 25, Ragtime Blues was the 4-5 favorite in a six furlong allowance, a race he again went gate to wire in, winning by 2 ¼ lengths.  With Smith taking over in his fourth start, he'll try to stretch his speed another sixteenth of a mile and will hope to hold the top choice off in deep stretch.
