Gary King Joins GITLP Board

Gary King has been appointed to the Godolphin International Thoroughbred Leadership Programme (GITLP) board of trustees.

King graduated from the programme in 2010, and is currently Senior Vice President at Thoroughbred Daily News and co-founder (with Vicky Leonard) of The Thoroughbred Report Australia and New Zealand.

King, who received the GFS Business Excellence award at the 2023 alumni conference, joins the board which includes fellow graduates Lisa-Jane Graffard and Tessa Hetherington.

Simon Cox Appointed to TBA Board of Directors

Simon Cox has been appointed to the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Board of Trustees as a co-opted member. Cox is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of Molson Coors EMEA & APAC, a brewing and beverage business of circa €2-billion turnover and 6,500 employees. Already a member of the TBA's National Hunt Committee, Cox has worked in the brewing industry for 32 years. He is also a member of the board of the Professional Jockeys Association and has owned National Hunt horses for a decade. His current string is with Ian Williams. More recently Cox also has ventured into thoroughbred breeding and has mares boarded at Shade Oak Stud. He is a shareholder in Shade Oak's new stallion  Logician (GB) (Frankel {GB}).

Simon Cox said, “I'm first and foremost a passionate racing fan and over the last decade have deepened my involvement in racing through owning and breeding National Hunt racehorses. I'm delighted to join the board of trustees of the TBA and am really looking forward to supporting the ongoing growth and health of the breeding industry. I want to continue to learn about the wider industry but I hope my knowledge of jump racing and my business experience will be of use to the team from the start.”

TOBA Names Officers, Three New Trustees to Board

Brant Laue has been re-elected as chairman of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association Board of Trustees, TOBA announced Wednesday. Also joining Laue on the Board of Trustees to serve three-year terms as new members are Barbara Banke, Carrie Brogden and Tim Cohen. Re-elected to three-year terms were current trustees Greg Bensel, Robert Edwards Jr., Tanya Gunther and Walker Hancock.

“I thank the trustees for their support,” Laue said. “Racing has fared well through the pandemic and some positive trends are continuing in 2021, but the pandemic has created new challenges for the industry that TOBA plans to be a part of the collaborative effort to address.”

Following its annual members meeting, the TOBA Board of Trustees met to elect officers for the association. Officers named for 2021-2022 are: Brant Laue, chairman, David O'Farrell, vice-chairman, Dan Metzger, president; Doug Cauthen, secretary; and Garrett O'Rourke, treasurer.

The TOBA Board also approved the appointment of Dr. J. David Richardson and reappointments of Everett Dobson and Walker Hancock to the American Graded Stakes Committee. The 2021-2022 committee is comprised of TOBA members Everett Dobson (chair), Barbara Banke, Reynolds Bell, Jr., Craig Bernick, Walker Hancock, and DJ. David Richardson and racing officials Rick Hammerle (Oaklawn Park and Kentucky Downs), Ben Huffman (Churchill Downs and Keeneland), Chris Merz (Santa Anita Park), Martin Panza (NYRA) and Thomas Robbins (Del Mar).

TOBA Names Officers, Five New Trustees To Board

The Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association announced today the re-election of Brant Laue as chairman of its Board of Trustees. Also joining Laue on the Board of Trustees to serve three-year terms as new members are Shannon Bishop Arvin, Jeffrey Bloom, Marette Farrell, Dr. J. David Richardson and Stephen Screnci.

Re-elected to three-year terms were current trustees Robert Devlin, Terry Finley, Brant Laue, Bernard McCormack, Charlie O'Connor and Garrett O'Rourke.

“I am honored to serve another term as chair with this board of trustees,” Laue said. “Our great sport has overcome many obstacles and difficulties in the past, and with their help and support we will again.”

Following its annual members meeting, the TOBA Board of Trustees met to elect officers for the association. Officers named for 2020-2021 are: Brant Laue, chairman, David O'Farrell, vice-chairman, Dan Metzger, president; Doug Cauthen, secretary; and Greg Bensel, treasurer.

The 2020-2021 committee is comprised of TOBA members Everett Dobson (chair), Barbara Banke, Reynolds Bell, Jr., Craig Bernick, Walker Hancock, and J. Michael O'Farrell and racing officials Kevin Greely (Indiana Grand), Steve Lym (Santa Anita Park), Ben Huffman (Churchill Downs and Keeneland), Martin Panza (NYRA) and Thomas Robbins (Del Mar).

TOBA, based in Lexington, Ky., was formed in 1961 and is a national trade organization of leading Thoroughbred breeders and owners. TOBA's mission is to improve the economics, integrity and pleasure of the sport on behalf of Thoroughbred owners and breeders. Projects managed by TOBA include the American Graded Stakes Committee, Claiming Crown, Ownership Seminars, Breeding, Conformation & Pedigree Clinics, TOBA Owners Concierge and the Sales Integrity Program. TOBA, in collaboration with The Jockey Club, has also created a free information resource called OwnerView to provide pertinent information to new, prospective and current Thoroughbred owners.
