Blue Bresil Gelding Tops The First Day Of The November NH Sale At Fairyhouse

A gelded son of Blue Bresil (Fr) (lot 62) topped the first day of the Tattersalls Ireland November National Hunt Sale at Fairyhouse on Saturday. Out of Tell It To Me (GB) (Kayf Tara {GB}), the bay was offered by David Minton's Mill House Stud and sold for €50,000 to Redbridge Stables. His second dam is the Grade 3 chase winner Liberthine (Fr) (Chamberlin {Fr}), herself a half-sister to three-time Grade 1-winning chaser Long Run (Fr) (Cadoudal {Fr}).

Consignor David Minton said of the March-born yearling, “He is a lovely horse and by the right sire, which was important. He was bred by Robert Waley-Cohen, who is cutting back on numbers now that his son Sam has finished riding.”

Allenstown Stables consigned lot 28, a colt by Soldier Of Fortune (Ire), who caught the eye of Ian Ferguson for €40,000. He is a half-brother to G1 Guinness H. Chase hero Foxy Jacks (Ire) (Fame And Glory {GB})

Two horses brought €37,000 apiece and they both went to T Hillman. The first, lot 60, is a gelded son of Gentlewave (Ire) from Mill House Stud. His dam was placed at listed level over hurdles in France. Loughview Stud offered lot 93, a gelding by Poet's Word (Ire), who is a half-brother to Group 3-winning chaster Ballynagour (Ire) (Shantou) and to the Grade 3-placed chaser Simply Wings (Ire) (Winged Love {Ire}).

A total of 45 yearlings sold from 93 offered (48%) for a gross of €725,150. The average and median both posted big gains at €16,114 (+60%) and €14,000 (+21%), respectively.

The sale continues with National Hunt foals from Sunday through Nov. 10. There is also a broodmare session later in the day on Nov. 10.

Record Price/Clearance at Tattersalls Ireland May Store Sale

The twice-rescheduled Tattersalls Ireland May Store Sale ended on Tuesday with a new record price of €115,000 and a new record clearance rate of 78%. Of the 211 lots offered, 164 sold. The gross was €2,851,200. The average and the median each posted double-digit increases-€17,385 for the average (+43%) and €15,000 for the median (+67%).

A gelded son of Blue Bresil (Fr), offered by Rathbarry Stud, caught the eye of bloodstock agent Aiden Murphy. Lot 121B, a half-brother to Welsh Grand National H. Chase runner-up The Two Amigos (GB) (Midnight Legend {GB}), counts Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed Line As (Fr) (Cadoudal {Fr}) as his second dam.

“He is the one I really wanted today,” said Murphy, the day's leading purchaser. “He is a lovely horse and has a pedigree. He is a great advertisement for the sire, he goes to Olly [Murphy] and is for Diana and Grahame Whateley.”

Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins said, “Only in its fourth year, the May Store Sale has already become recognised as a leading source of winners and today's impressive set of figures have confirmed its importance within the store sale calendar. Although delayed until August for a second year in a row, this year's sale has produced an excellent trade that surpasses pre-COVID times and has achieved a record clearance rate.

We extend our thanks to our vendors who remained patient throughout the disruption to the sales calendar and provided quality stores as well as every purchaser who engaged as they sought to find their next May Store Sale winner. We were delighted to welcome UK buyers back to Fairyhouse following the easing of travel restrictions into Ireland.”

Blue Bresil Filly Takes Top Honours at Goffs Land Rover Part 2

The Goffs Land Rover Sale wrapped on Thursday with a single-session Part 2. Topping proceedings was a 3-year-old filly by Blue Bresil (Fr) (lot 458) from Peter Nolan Bloodstock. The bay, from the family of graded placed hurdler Backinthere (Ire) (Flemensfirth) hammered at €65,000 to Aidan O'Ryan/Gordon Elliott.

Lot 488, another filly, this time Butlersgrove Stud's daughter of Well Chosen (GB), was the second lot to reach or exceed €50,000. She brought €52,000, having caught the eye of Bobby O'Ryan.

From a statistics standpoint, 118 lots sold from 160 offered (74%) for a gross of €1,953,300. The average was €16,553 and the median of €15,000.

“Following a spectacular two-day Land Rover Part 1, today's Part 2 sale took up the mantle and certainly delivered more of the same with advances in all the vital statistics,” said Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby in his end-of-sale statement. “Most noteworthy was the clearance rate which grew by 16 points to a very respectable 74% and, once again, we extend our thanks to our vendors who provided the raw material as well as every purchaser who engaged as they sought to find the next Land Rover star.

“I repeat our thanks to everyone at HRI for their help in working through the protocols to deliver a safe, compliant and vibrant sale. And, as ever, our colleagues at Irish Thoroughbred Marketing have been pivotal to the whole sale as they worked with the Goffs Team to ensure the maximum audience for all three days. We extend our thanks to all our buyers regardless of their spend and wish them the best of luck with their Land Rover purchases as they seek to follow in the hoof prints of so many NH stars of recent years.

“And our vendors. So many of them stepped up with drafts of note and it gave us enormous pleasure to see them rewarded for the faith they placed in the Goffs Land Rover service. It may be a repetitive statement but we are nothing without the horses and can't do it without them.
