Indiana Yearling Spotlight Presented By Indiana Thoroughbred Alliance: Filly By Millionaire Palace On Offer At Indiana Fall Mixed Sale

Some of the Indiana Thoroughbred industry's best are being offered during the 2021 Indiana Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association Fall Mixed Sale on Saturday, Oct. 16 in the Receiving Barn at Indiana Grand Racing and Casino.

Consignor Elise Kendall is offering a registered Indiana-bred filly by Grade 1 winner Palace and out of the stakes-placing producer Bring Me Luck during the sale as Hip 61. The bay filly features a well-balanced build and a strong hip.

Grade 1 Forego Stakes winner Palace is a winner of more than $1,586,000 in his lifetime and is the sire of three crops of racing-age foals, all of which earning a total of $2,857,768.

Bring Me Luck has foaled nine horses of racing age, eight of which are money earners, averaging $115,950. The mare's 2010 foal by A.P. Cino (Indy Wind) was a multiple stakes placed runner, earning $427,555.

Galilean, Son Of Uncle Mo, Retires To New York’s Hidden Lake Farm

Galilean, a multiple stakes-winning and graded stakes-placed son of perennial leading sire Uncle Mo from the female family of the influential Smart Strike, has been retired from racing and will take up his new career as a stallion at Hidden Lake Farm in New York where he will stand the 2022 breeding season for a stud fee of $7,000 S&N.

“We are proud of what Galilean accomplished on the racetrack,” said West Point Thoroughbreds' Terry Finley, “and we're excited for him to write his next chapter as a stallion. He was precocious, fast, and he proved his class repeatedly in top company. We believe he has the looks, the pedigree, and the type of dangerous miler speed to make his mark as a stallion. We are committed to supporting Galilean with some of our top mares, and we're excited to offer him to New York breeders.”

Campaigned by West Point Thoroughbreds, Denise Barker, and William Sandbrook, Galilean was bought by West Point Thoroughbreds for $600,000 out of Eddie Woods' consignment at the 2018 Barretts 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale in California.

The handsome bay colt kicked off his racing career in auspicious fashion, competing exclusively in stakes as a juvenile. Galilean won the $100,000 Barretts Juvenile Stakes at Los Alamitos on debut for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. In a determined effort, Galilean proved a game winner in his bow, getting 6 ½ furlongs in a lively 1:15.28 with an interior six-furlong clocking of 1:08.75.

He closed out his freshman campaign with a tremendous performance in the $100,000 King Glorious Stakes, also at Los Alamitos, leading the one-mile test from start to finish. He sprinted to the lead, set the pace down the backstretch, and repelled a bid from his nearest pursuer on the far turn before powering away from his rivals in the stretch to win by nine lengths in 1:35.06 as the odds-on favorite.

Galilean commenced his 3-year-old season with a 4 ½-length victory in the $200,000 California Cup Derby at Santa Anita. After pressing the pace three-wide into the stretch of the 1 1/16-mile event, Galilean drew off under a hand ride from Flavien Prat to win as much the best. The win earned him a trip to Hot Springs, Ark., for the Rebel Stakes (G2) at Oaklawn Park where he finished a close third behind winner Long Range Toddy and runner-up and subsequent multiple Grade 1 winner Improbable.

In 2020, Galilean added three additional stakes scores to his already impressive resume, taking the Soi Phet Stakes at Los Alamitos by four lengths under the tutelage of trainer John Sadler, the California Dreamin' Stakes at Del Mar, and the California Flag Handicap at Santa Anita. He made the final start of his career on Sept. 12 at Los Alamitos, finishing fourth in the E.B. Johnston Stakes. He retires with a record of 16-6-1-3 and boasts a career bankroll of $592,522.

Bred in California by Bar C Racing Stables, Galilean is produced from the El Prado (IRE) mare Fresia, a half-sister to Ontario Derby (G3) and Seagram Cup Stakes (G3) winner His Race to Win, an earner of $509,349. Galilean hails from the prolific Sam-Son female family of Canadian champion Classy 'N Smart, a half-sister to Sky Classic and the dam of Smart Strike, Dance Smartly and others, and the granddam of Dancethruthedawn and promising young sire Speightster.

Dam Of Breeders’ Cup Winner Newspaperofrecord To Be Offered At Tattersalls December Sale

Outstanding broodmare Sunday Times, the dam of American superstar filly Newspaperofrecord, is to be offered for sale at the forthcoming Tattersalls December Mares Sale which takes place Nov. 29 – Dec. 2.

The 12-year-old daughter of Holy Roman Emperor is carrying a Lope de Vega own sibling to Newspaperofrecord whose unbeaten 2-year-old career culminated in a breathtaking seven-length romp in the 2018 Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Churchill Downs. Purchased at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and trained by Chad Brown, Newspaperofrecord raced in the colors of Seth Klarman's Klaravich Stables and added to her Grade 1 tally with another effortless win over a mile in last year's G1 Just A Game Stakes at Belmont Park.

Quoted after Newspaperofrecord's extraordinary Breeders' Cup performance Chad Brown said; “Today she showed how good she really is and for her to win as easy as she did is remarkable,” while Thoroughbred Daily News columnist Bill Finley wrote that “her performance might well be regarded as one of the best in the history of the series.”

Newspaperofrecord is the third foal out of Sunday Times, herself a top-class race filly who won the G3 Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster for her owner Allan Belshaw as well as finishing second in the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes. Her first foal Classical Times, by Lawman, who was also raced by Belshaw, won the Listed Cecil Frail Stakes at Haydock beating the high-class Group 2 and Group 3 winners Raven's Lady and Different League, before being sold to Juddmonte Farms, and her fourth foal, the winning Gleneagles filly Daily Times, in foal to Lope de Vega, will also be amongst the highlights of the forthcoming December Mares Sale.

Sunday Times' Listed placed Shamardal half-sister Question Times is equally illustrious, having produced six winners to date including 2018 G1 Irish Derby winner Latrobe, the G3 Gladness Stakes winner Diamond Fields and the Listed winner Pink Dogwood who was second to Anapurna in the 2019 Oaks and third in the Irish Oaks.

Both Sunday Times and Daily Times will be offered on behalf of Allan Belshaw from Richard and Sally Aston's Goldford Stud. Commenting on the sale of Sunday Times, Richard Aston said

“Sunday Times is a truly outstanding broodmare with a great future. She was a very smart race filly, she has produced a champion 2-year-old, she has a current classic pedigree which will appeal to breeders from all over the world and she is gorgeous. It is a rare combination and Mr. Belshaw will be racing Newspaperofrecord's yearling own sister and this year's Kingman filly foal which is why he has decided to sell both Sunday Times and Daily Times.”

Mischevious Alex Retired To Stand In Japan

Grade 1 winner Mischevious Alex has been retired from racing, and he has been purchased by the Japan Bloodhorse Breeders Association to stand in that country, per a JBBA release.

A 4-year-old son of Into Mischief, Mischevious Alex retired with seven wins in 15 starts with earnings of $734,355. He was trained by John Servis and Saffie Joseph Jr., for owners Cash Is King and LC Racing.

Mischevious Alex started in the Servis barn, where he won on debut as a juvenile at Parx Racing and finished that season with a win in the Parx Juvenile Stakes. He started off his 3-year-old campaign with a pair of Grade 3 wins in the Swale Stakes at Gulfstream Park and the Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct.

The colt was moved to the Joseph barn for his 4-year-old season, where he won his first three starts of the season: a Gulfstream Park allowance optional claiming race, the G3 Gulfstream Park Sprint Stakes, and the G1 Carter Handicap. He also finished third in the G1 Metropolitan Handicap.

Bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm, Mischevious Alex is out of the winning Speightstown mare White Pants Night. His extended family includes Grade 3 winner Hebbronville.

Mischevious Alex is expected to arrive in Japan in November, and he will stand at Shizunai Stallion Station in Hokkaido. He joins a JBBA roster that also features stallions with North American ties including Creator, Aldebaran, Came Home, Cape Blanco, David Junior, Eskendereya, Johannesburg, Squirtle Squirt, and Stravinsky.
