Claiborne Farm, Kentucky Quarterback Will Levis Form NIL Partnership To Promote War Of Will

Sports management company Athlete Advantage is announcing a newly formed NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) partnership agreement between Claiborne Farm's syndicate-owned stallion War of Will, and University of Kentucky football's most prominent player, quarterback Will Levis.

The agreement will consist of a multimedia advertising campaign that will center on the athleticism of both football players and racehorses and will represent the first NIL deal for any collegiate student-athlete with a syndicate of owners of a Thoroughbred stallion to promote the selling of breeding seasons.

Walker Hancock, president of Claiborne Farm, details the synergy of this partnership and the importance of being the first in his billion-dollar industry to partner with a collegiate student-athlete.

“We are thrilled to be the first farm to partner with a Division I athlete in this newly created NIL space,” he said. “Having a star quarterback help promote one of our young and promising stallions is a new way of advertising that we think provides a perfect synergy of our brands. Will's athleticism and performance displayed on the football field mirrors what we saw with War of Will on the racetrack and the reason he is such an exciting stallion prospect.”

Will Levis is the starting quarterback at the University of Kentucky and is from Madison, Conn. Last year, Levis threw for over 2,820 yards and is attributed with 24 touchdowns.

In his first season in Lexington, Levis earned the reputation as a hard-nosed athlete and leader with unequaled tenacity, both on and off of the field, allowing him to help lead Kentucky to double-digit victories on the way to their second win in the VRBO Citrus Bowl making the past season one of their most successful on record.

War of Will was a Grade 1 winner on both the turf and dirt with earnings exceeding $1.9 million. With his victory in the 2019 Preakness Stakes, War of Will became the first American classic winner sired by internationally renowned stallion, War Front, who also stands at Claiborne Farm. War of Will stands for a fee of $25,000 and his first foals are being born this spring.

Claiborne Farm, which serves as the syndicate manager for War of Will, has been a leader in the Thoroughbred business for over a century. The historic farm in Paris, Ky. has been home to some of the most influential horses to ever grace the turf and dirt, including Bold Ruler, Forego, Personal Ensign, Ruffian, Seabiscuit, Swale, and Secretariat, who is considered by many to be the greatest racehorse of all time.

In the United States alone the Thoroughbred industry has a multi-billion-dollar economic impact, with the vast majority of the breeding operations being located in Central Kentucky right alongside the University of Kentucky and its storied athletic programs.

Representatives of Athlete Advantage, the NIL company responsible for fostering the deal, are excited about the prospects of this partnership.

“We are extremely excited to be a part of such a substantial deal that establishes the connection between the amazing student-athletes at the University of Kentucky and the Thoroughbred breeding business, one of the signature industries of the Commonwealth,” said Athlete Advantage president Ryan Miller. “We believe that Will Levis and War of Will will be considered pioneers in the NIL space, blazing a trail for all those following behind them. We are grateful that Walker and his team at Claiborne Farm had the foresight to see the value in partnering with Will Levis and are confident that all parties involved will be tremendously pleased by the positive impact created by an opportunity of this significance.”

Grade 1 Winner Majestic Harbor Dies Suddenly At Age 14

Majestic Harbor – who won nearly $1.3 million in a brilliant race career that included 10 wins and a memorable and stirring victory in the 2014 version of the Grade 1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita – has died at Harris Farm in Coalinga, Calif.

The stallion – who was California's leading freshman sire in 2020 and was the #1 stallion among all California sires in 2021 in both average earnings per runner and median earnings per runner – would have turned a full 14 years old on Wednesday, April 6.

According to Jonny Hilvers, Harris Farms' general manager, Majestic Harbor collapsed and died suddenly in the breeding shed due to a suspected heart attack. Majestic Harbor will be buried at Harris Farms.

“As you can imagine, we are all in shock and completely devastated,” said Lori Hebel-Osborne, who owned Majestic Harbor along with her husband, David, and her mother and father, Carol and the late Charles W. Hebel, Ron Beegle and Ray Beegle. The owners raced the colt under the partnership name of Gallant Stables. “Rocky was just a huge part of our life, and he gave us so much of his life to make ours bigger and brighter. He had so much personality. He had so much talent. He had it all. We all loved him so much. Hard to believe that he is gone so soon.”

Majestic Harbor – who was affectionately nicknamed “Rocky” as a nod to his sire Rockport Harbor and for all his comeback fights throughout his racing years – was a true warrior on the racetrack. He started 42 times and he compiled an impressive record of 10 wins, eight seconds, and seven thirds at 10 different racetracks that spanned from Kentucky to California.

The colt was trained by Paul McGee in Kentucky and Sean McCarthy in California. Majestic Harbor won graded stakes for both McGee and McCarthy. Both trainers credited the horse's success to a combination of class, intelligence, tactical speed, and soundness.

Majestic Harbor, who raced until he was an 8-year-old, won four graded stakes: the 2014 G1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita; the 2014 G3 Tokyo City Cup Stakes; the 2016 G3 Mineshaft Stakes at the Fair Grounds; and the 2016 G2 Alysheba Stakes at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby Day.

In addition, he placed in the G1 Stephen Foster Handicap; the G2 Marathon Stakes; the G3 Greenwood Cup Stakes; the G2 Hawthorne Gold Cup, the G2 Californian Stakes and the G2 San Pasqual Stakes.

All told, Majestic Harbor hit the board in 31 of 42 lifetime starts including 14 times in graded stakes. In 2014, he competed in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Classic. His best speed figure came in the Mineshaft, where he was credited with a 116 rating by Equibase.

Majestic Harbor, a son of Rockport Harbor and the French Deputy mare Champagne Royale, began his stallion career at Swifty Farms in Indiana in 2017.

From his first crop, he produced stakes-winning filly Pearl Tiara, who won an Indiana-bred stakes event in 2021 and stakes-placed winner Diamond Solitaire, who is also an Indiana-bred success story.

After his first two years in Indiana, he was transferred to California and Harris Farm. Majestic Harbor's third full crop and first from California has already produced an open maiden special weight winner in Oneparticularharbor, who broke his maiden at Santa Anita earlier this year.

Buying And Racing In Britain Can Provide The Experience Of A Lifetime

Anyone who has been to a flagship race meeting in Britain will attest to the fact that the atmosphere is every bit as electric as the world-class action on the track. Indeed, much of the appeal of having a racehorse in training in Britain is rooted in the raceday experience, as well as the luxury lifestyle that racehorse ownership in Britain can unlock.

This year, as the world opens up again to full international travel and as racecourses up and down the land celebrate Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, the lure of Britain's flat racing festivals has never been greater.

Ahead of this year's European breeze up season, we review why Britain's appeal as a country in which to buy, raise and race turf Thoroughbreds endures, and how Great British Racing International – British racing's not-for-profit service provider that helps international parties to navigate the industry's networks – can help you to get your British racing venture off the ground.

In 2021 alone, over 50 countries purchased young stock, horses in training and mares at Britain's sales and it's easy to see why. In 2021 British Bloodstock auction houses sold 23 winners of 37 flat Group/Grade 1 races globally.

Britain's bloodstock auction houses are devoted to finding the champions of the future. In 2021, it was the 2-year-old sales in Newmarket and Doncaster in the spring that produced the season's most successful juveniles.

The breeze up sale season's curtain raiser takes place, appropriately, at the home of horse racing, with buyers flocking to Tattersalls in Newmarket for the Craven Sale, in search of exceptional turf pedigrees.

It was at this sale 12 months ago that Godolphin sourced their still unbeaten European two-year-old Champion, Native Trail.

Notably, Native Trail went on to land an additional £125,000 (US$164,429) in bonus prize money for winning his first of two Group 1s, courtesy of the inaugural £250,000 (US$328,839) Tattersalls Craven Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus scheme. Once again in 2022, Tattersalls are offering the generous bonus – £125,000 (US$164,429) to the first winner of one of six juvenile races at Royal Ascot and £125,000 (US$164,429) to the winner of any of the 15 Group 1 races open to two-year-olds in Europe. Further to this, all Craven graduates are eligible for the widely acclaimed £15,000 (US$19,645) Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up bonus.

This year, Craven Sale lots will breeze on the morning of Monday, April 11 on the watered gallop at Newmarket's Rowley Mile Racecourse and will go through the sale ring from 5:30 p.m. on April 12-13, after racing has concluded.

Native Trail under tack at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale.

The second must-attend 2-year-old sale in Britain is the Goffs UK Breeze Up Sale, which will take place April 19-21 in Doncaster. The breeze will take place on the 19th, inspections on the 20th and the sale of 186 cataloged lots on the 21st.

This sale positions itself as the Royal Ascot Breeze Up Sale – and justifiably so. It is on a roll, having produced six Royal Ascot winners in the last six years. The latest acclaimed graduate, the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes winner Perfect Power, cost just £110,000 (US$144,028) and went on to land two Group 1 contests later in the season, cementing his reputation as one of the world's leading turf juveniles.

“If you are in the racing game for the love of the sport, Royal Ascot is one of those events that you only hope you can have a horse run at,” said David Bernsen, who co-campaigned the globetrotting champion Stormy Liberal.

With Royal Ascot on the horizon and the aforementioned domestic sales bonuses to be won – not to mention the lucrative Great British Bonus pay-outs – it is easy to see why many internationals opt to place their breeze up purchases in training in Britain with trainers who hold a deep understanding of the widely coveted turf bloodlines that dominate the European sales.

If you are interested in seeing your colors carried to victory on one of Britain's historic racecourses, Great British Racing International (GBRI) can support you on your journey. Offering a 360-degree service from initial interest to ongoing support, GBRI will provide you with a tailored concierge service, unparalleled knowledge, industry introductions, behind the scenes and luxury lifestyle experiences, and race day experiences will meet your every need.

A colt by Straight Fire was worth the wait at the 2022 Texas Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale breeze show Monday.

Cataloged in the supplement as Hip 144, the colt was the last horse on the track Monday afternoon, delivering the fastest one-furlong breeze, stopping the clock in :10 1/5 on the Lone Star Park oval. Six horses collected a :10 2/5 clocking over the dirt at Lone Star Park, all tying for the second fastest eighth of the day:

“I think the quality horses the consignors sent to us for this sale really put on a show today,” TTA sales director Foster Bridewell said. “The last horse to breeze drops the bullet, we had six go :10 2/5, and 17 stopped the timer in :10 3/5; that's a testament to the horses and the training leading up. We owe a debt of gratitude to the folks that trust us to sell for them and we're thankful for the consignors who have brought these athletes to this sale.”

The breeze results and videos are available online at TTAsales.com. The 2022 Texas 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale is Wednesday, April 6, beginning at noon CT.
