Jay Goodwin Joins Walmac Farm’s Stallion Sales Department

Jay Goodwin, formerly of Eaton Sales and previously a partner in Select Sales Agency, has been hired by Gary Broad's Walmac Farm and will join the operation's stallion sales department, it was announced today.

“Moving into stallions wasn't something I was even thinking about, but when I spoke with Gary and heard his excitement and the plans that he has for the future of Walmac, it was something that I definitely wanted to be a part of,” said Goodwin. “Although I am thoroughly excited about this exciting new opportunity, I will miss my role with Eaton Sales. I am thankful to Reiley (McDonald) for everything he taught me while I worked with him.”

Goodwin, who moved to Lexington, Ky., in 2005, is no stranger to high-quality bloodstock. Having worked as an account manager for Eaton Sales since 2020 and as a longtime partner with Select Sales, Goodwin is also a breeder and owns Goodwin Farm in Bourbon County where he manages his own mares and those of clients.

Walmac is home to stallions Core Beliefs and Pinehurst. Core Beliefs, a son of Quality Road, won the Grade 3 Ohio Derby and the G2 New Orleans Handicap and banked nearly $1 million during his racing career. His first foals arrive this year and he stands the 2023 breeding season for $7,500 S&N.

Pinehurst, runaway winner of the 2021 G1 Del Mar Futurity at two and impressive winner of the G3 Saudi Derby at three, is a son of Twirling Candy, and he stands his initial season at stud this year for $7,500 S&N.

Mishriff On Recovery Track To Begin Stud Career In March

Dual-surface international star Mishriff is on pace to begin his stud career in March after a minor issue required his debut to come after the traditional start of the breeding season, Racing Post reports.

The 6-year-old son of Make Believe resides at Sumbe's Haras de Montfort et Preaux in France, where he was being well-received by breeders ahead of the season, but a non-life threatening benign pathology that was first announced on Jan. 3 put a temporary halt on when he would start covering mares.

“He has excellent tissue, which has aided his recovery, and everything has gone according to plan,” Sumbe's Mathieu Le Forestier “Pretty much everyone has kept the faith and we have no worries on that score,”  told Racing Post. “Pretty much everyone has kept the faith and we have no worries on that score.”

Le Forestier said the vast majority of breeders that planned on sending mares to Mishriff have agreed to wait for the stallion's recovery, and not booked elsewhere in the interim. Mishriff has been on display to breeders inside his stall.

Mishriff won seven of 21 starts during his on-track career, amassing $16,034,853. The bulk of those earnings came when winning the 2021 Saudi Cup on dirt, which he followed up with a switch to the turf to win the Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic. He also tallied Group 1 victories in France and England over the course of his career, racing for Prince A.A. Faisal and trainer John Gosden.

Mishriff will stand for an advertised fee of €20,000.
