Ghostzapper Colt Tops Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December Mixed, Horses of Racing Age Sale

A weanling colt by Ghostzapper topped a variety of offerings at the 2023 Midlantic December Mixed and Horses of Racing Age sale, held Tuesday at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Md. The sale's top five hips included two weanlings, a broodmare prospect, and in-foal mare, and a horse of racing age.

A late May colt by Ghostzapper (Hip 29) topped the sale when sold for $82,000 to Machmer Hall from the consignment of Northview Stallion Station (David Wade), agent. The bay colt is first foal out of the unraced Exaggerator mare Dance All Day, a half-sister to graded stakes placed Queen's Plate winner Safe Conduct and to Dancing Duchess, a two-year-old stakes winner this year. Hip 29 hails from the immediate family of Canadian Horses of the Year Fatal Bullet and Pink Lloyd and was bred in Maryland by Owen Kiernan.

Truancy (Hip 127) was the sale's top broodmare prospect, sold for $55,000 to Country Life Farm, agent, from the consignment of Bill Reightler, agent. A two-time winner by Run Away and Hide out of the stakes winning Successful Appeal mare Successfully Sweet, Truancy is a half-sister four other winners, including graded stakes winner Confrontation and stakes placed Catch a Thrill. The 4-year-old filly hails from the immediate family of Grade 1 winner Mo Town.

Abracadabra (Hip 2), in foal to Practical Joke, sold for $52,000 to Cash Is King from the consignment of Northview Stallion Station (David Wade), agent for James F. Thames (Horse Play Racing). A winning daughter of Speightstown, the sale's top broodmare has already produced one winner from two foals of racing age; her two-year-old of this year has not yet started. Abracadabra is one of five winners out of the winning Ghostzapper mare Wicked Charm, who also produced graded stakes winner Bobby's Wicked One and graded stakes placed Wicked Fast. She hails from the immediate family of champion and multiple Grade 1 winner English Channel.

The top-priced horse of racing age was Paynter's Prodigy (Hip 200), sold for $40,000 to Flatbird Stable from the consignment of Marshall W. Silverman, agent. A 2-year-old son of Paynter, Paynter's Prodigy was a winner on November 11 at Laurel Park in his debut and only start to date. Out of the unraced Midnight Lute mare English Chocolate, Paynter's Prodigy is a half-brother to Kupp, a four-time winner this year of nearly $150,000. He hails from the immediate family of Grade 1 winners Manistique and Unbridled Command.

Overall, 148 offerings changed hands for $1,518,000. The RNA rate was 21%.

Super Stock Retired To Leadem Farm In Arkansas For 2024

Super Stock, a Grade 1 winner who ran in the 2021 Kentucky Derby, has been retired from racing and will enter stud at Leadem Farm in Leola, Ark., for the 2024 breeding season.

The 5-year-old son of Dialed In finished his career with four wins in 20 career starts, earning $1,279,077 for owners Erv Woodley and Keith Asmussen, and trainer Steve Asmussen.

Super Stock broke his maiden in his third career start as a 2-year-old, graduating in the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity at Lone Star Park. He then graduated to graded stakes competition, finishing his juvenile season with third-place efforts in the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes and the G1 Breeders' Futurity, and a runner-up finish in the listed Street Sense Overnight Stakes.

The spring of his 3-year-old season was spent at Oaklawn Park, where he became a division leader following a 2 1/2-length victory in the G1 Arkansas Derby. That win earned Super Stock a spot in the Kentucky Derby, where he finished 16th.

The second half of Super Stock's sophomore season saw him earn victories in the listed Ellis Park Derby and Zia Park Derby, along with a third in the G3 Oklahoma Derby.

Bred in Kentucky by Pedro and P.J. Gonzalez, Super Stock is out of the winning Closing Argument mare Super Girlie, who is also the dam of Grade 1-placed Boujie Girl.

Kalidasa, World’s Most Expensive Yearling Of 2022, Makes Debut Wednesday At Kempton

Kalidasa, the world's most expensive yearling sold at auction in 2022, will make his debut Wednesday at Kempton Park Racecourse, Racing Post reports.

The 2-year-old son of Frankel was purchased by Godolphin for 2.8 million guineas (US$3,703,988) at last year's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. Bred by Watership Down Stud, Kalidasa is out of the Group 3-winning Dubawi mare So Mi Dar, from the family of multiple Group 1 winner and Darley stallion Too Darn Hot and multiple Group 1 winner Dar Re Mi.

William Buick will ride the colt in the one-mile race over an all-weather surface for trainer Charlie Appleby.

Despite the massive sale price, Kalidasa will be competing for a modest purse in his debut, with £3,672 (US$4,619) going to the winner. He'll be part of an 11-horse field.

Hog Creek Hustle Moves To War Horse Place For 2024

Grade 1 winner Hog Creek Hustle will relocate to War Horse Place in Lexington, Ky., for the 2024 breeding season, BloodHorse reports.

The 7-year-old Overanalyze horse will stand for an advertised fee of $5,000.

Hog Creek Hustle previously stood at Buck Pond Farm in Lexington, where he entered stud in 2022.

A winner in four of 24 starts for earnings of $774,546, Hog Creek Hustle was stakes-placed at two, and he came back at three to win the Grade 1 Woody Stephens Stakes. His 3-year-old campaign also included runner-up efforts in the G1 H. Allen Jerkens Stakes, the G3 Pat Day Mile, and the G3 LeComte Stakes. At four, he finished in the money in the G2 Gulfstream Park Mile Stakes.

Hog Creek Hustle is out of the unraced Candy Ride mare Candy Fortune, whose three winners from four runners also includes Grade 3 winner Majestic Dunhill.
