Champion Midnight Bisou, In Foal To Tapit, Supplemented To Book 1 Of Keeneland November Sale

Keeneland has announced that champion and $7.4 million earner Midnight Bisou, a 7-year-old daughter of Midnight Lute who is in foal to Tapit, has been supplemented to Book 1 of the 79th November Breeding Stock Sale on Nov. 7. Midnight Bisou is consigned by Hill 'n' Dale at Xalapa.

Midnight Bisou won the $1 million Grade 1 Cotillion and G1 Santa Anita Oaks in addition to three other graded stakes at three. She was named the champion older dirt female at four in 2019 following a dominating campaign that produced seven wins in eight races. Among her seven graded stakes wins that year were victories in the G1 Personal Ensign at Saratoga, G1 Ogden Phipps at Belmont and G1 Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn.

Midnight Bisou returned in early 2020 to finish second in the $20 million Saudi Cup against males and win the G2 Fleur de Lis at Churchill Downs.

Winner of 13 races – all stakes – in 22 starts over four seasons, Midnight Bisou earned $7,451,520 during her illustrious racing career.

“It's impossible to describe what she's meant to me, my family and my partners,” Jeff Bloom of co-owner Bloom Racing Stable said. “She took us on an incredible journey and created so many amazing experiences for us across the globe. All those memories I will treasure the rest of my life.

“She effortlessly transitioned to life as a broodmare with the same elegance, class and intelligence that she displayed as a racehorse.”

Out of Grade 3 winner Diva Delite, by Repent, Midnight Bisou is a half-sister to recent G1 Champagne runner-up and FanDuel Breeders' Cup Juvenile candidate Verifying.

“Midnight Bisou represents the very best of Thoroughbred racing,” Keeneland Vice President of Sales Tony Lacy said. “She is a world-class racehorse from an active, talented family who is in foal to one of the industry's premier stallions. Keeneland is delighted to offer her during Book 1 of our November Breeding Stock Sale.”

Diva Delite, who is in foal to Gun Runner, also is cataloged to Book 1. Out of the winning Tour d'Or mare Tour Hostess, she is consigned by Hunter Valley Farm, agent.

Book 1 starts Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. ET. Keeneland will accept supplements to Book 1 until the auction begins.

Onetime Triple Crown Prospect Forbidden Kingdom Returns For Santa Anita Sprint Championship

Richard Mandella's classy sophomore Forbidden Kingdom, idle since the Grade 1 Runhappy Santa Anita Derby in April, returns to action this Saturday at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif.,  and looms the horse to beat among a field of seven 3-year-olds and up in the Grade 2, $200,000 Santa Anita Sprint Championship.

By 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, Forbidden Kingdom, on the strength of powerful victories in the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes Jan. 29 and the Grade 2 San Felipe March 5, was the even money favorite in the Santa Anita Derby April 9, but ended up sixth and last, beaten 14 ½ lengths by top-tier colt Taiba.

Owned by MyRacehorse and Spendthrift Farm, LLC, Forbidden Kingdom has won two of his three Santa Anita starts and is 6-3-1-1 overall as he likely prepares for a berth in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Sprint at Keeneland Nov. 5 with regular rider Juan Hernandez up.

Although Forbidden Kingdom may be the new kid on the block in the Sprint division, C Z Rocket is anything but.  A miracle $40,000 claim on April 30, 2020 at Oaklawn Park, this 8-year-old City Zip gelding took the 2020 Santa Anita Sprint Championship and was subsequently second in that year's Breeders' Cup Sprint at Keeneland some 11 races back.

Most recently a troubled eighth in the Grade 2 Pat O'Brien Stakes going seven furlongs on Aug. 27, C Z Rocket's most recent win came two starts back in a six-furlong allowance at Del Mar on July 23.

Based at San Luis Rey Downs with trainer Peter Miller, C Z Rocket is owned by Altamira Racing Stable, Madaket Stables, LLC, Gary Barber and former Glendora, Calif., youth football coach Tom Kagele.  With one win and a third from three Santa Anita starts, C Z Rocket is 33-12-4-5 overall with earnings of $1,572,641.  He'll be ridden by Ramon Vazquez, who guided him to victory in the Del Mar allowance July 23.

‘He Had Plenty Left’: Packs A Wahlop Powers To Convincing Win In Del Mar Juvenile Turf

The father-son team of Jed and Tim Cohen, who race under the names of Red Baron's Barn and Rancho Temescal, respectively, threw a big punch Sunday with their colt Packs a Wahlop, who sat a pretty trip in second under Hall of Fame rider Mike Smith, then powered away through the lane to win the $104,500 Del Mar Juvenile Turf (G3) at the seaside track.

The gray son of Creative Cause was 4 1/4  lengths best at the end of the one mile test on the Jimmy Durante Turf Course, covering the distance in 1:35.96. The winning trainer was Jeff Mullins.

Finishing second was Valiancer, who came from far back to finish ahead of the other Red Baron's and Rancho Temescal's runner Dandy Man Shines.

Don'tthinkjustdoit actually was second across the wire, but was disqualified and placed seventh for interference in the stretch.

Packs a Wahlop returned $18.

The winner earned $60,000 for his good work and now has earnings of $110,000 for his second win in his third start.

MIKE SMITH (Packs a Wahlop, winner)– “Jeff (trainer Mullins) and his crew did a great job getting this colt ready for this race. They were actually only going to run the other one (Valiancer) and this horse was doing, so good Jeff said we got to run them both. He's (Pack a Wahlop) training unbelievable and I came out and worked him every time, so I feel like I was a part of it. I didn't think they were going to beat this colt, not today anyway. Nice comfortable pace and he had plenty left. ”

JEFF MULLINS (Packs a Wahlop, winner) – “That was kind of the plan along. He showed speed going five-eighths; we figured he would be laying close somewhere in a comfortable position. Mike's worked him every time and he's had all the confidence in this horse, we all have. I was surprised he went off at 8-1.”

FRACTIONS:  :23.00  :47.24  1:12.32  1:24.31  1:35.96

The stakes win was the second of the meet for rider Smith, but his first in the Del Mar Juvenile Turf. He now has 76 stakes wins at Del Mar, 11th best of all time.

The stakes win was the first of the meet for trainer Mullins, but his second (Dry Summer, 2012) in the Del Mar Juvenile Turf. He now has 22 stakes wins at Del Mar.

The winning owners are father and son Jed and Tim Cohen of Red Baron's Barn (Jed) and Rancho Temescal (Tim). Jed resides in Los Angeles, Tim in Del Mar.
