June 26 Insights: Tapit Colt Out of Havre De Grace Unveiled in New York

The Whisper Hill Farm homebred has a steady line of works for Todd Pletcher, including most recently a four furlong move in :48.81 over the main track June 19. To Saint Tapit's immediate outside is $300,000 KEESEP Juddmonte purchase Mount Craig (Arrogate), bred by W S Farish and in the barn of Bill Mott. Mount Craig claims Good Magic (Curlin) in his female line. Breaking to the far outside of the group will be well-bred Flute Master (Gun Runner), a colt out of a Juddmonte-bred daughter of their GI Kentucky Oaks heroine Flute (Seattle Slew). Casa Creed Right At Home in the Jaipur

Sent off at a fraction of the 10-1 mutuel he returned to his supporters 12 months ago, Lee Einsidler's LRE Racing and Mike Francesa's JEH Racing Stable's Casa Creed (Jimmy Creed) enjoyed a beautiful inside trip in defense of his title in the GI Jaipur S. Saturday afternoon and, once tipped out a furlong from home, ran down an alibi-free favorite Arrest Me Red (Pioneerof the Nile) to score at 4-1.

Making his U.S. reappearance on the back of strong turf sprint efforts in Saudi Arabia and Dubai, Casa Creed settled in about a midfield position as 14-1 True Valour (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) cut out a reasonable tempo of :22.36 for the opening section in advance of Arrest Me Red, who would have been giving Irad Ortiz, Jr. any number of positive vibes while matching motors to the outside. Ridden for luck by Luis Saez, Casa Creed remained hard against the hedge as they raced into the final quarter mile and took advantage of an opening inside of the mare Change of Control (Fed Biz) with a furlong and a half to travel. Roused right-handed at the eighth pole, Casa Creed was steered out into the three path at and closed powerfully–particularly after switching his leads–to be along in time. True Valour held nicely for third, with Change of Control the long-odds superfecta kicker. The victory secures Casa Creed a fees-paid berth into this year's GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Keeneland Nov. 5.

Casa Creed stretched back out to a mile to be third to Got Stormy (Get Stormy) in the GI Fourstardave H. last August and was fifth to Gear Jockey (Twirling Candy) in the GIII Turf Sprint at Kentucky Downs Sept. 11 before running on to be eighth, beaten 3 1/2 lengths, in last year's GI Breeders' Cup Mile. The bay rallied to run recent G1 Yasuda Kinen heroine Songline (Jpn) (Kizuna {Jpn}) to a neck in the G3 1351 Turf Sprint Cup in Riyadh Feb. 26 and was exiting a respectable fifth behind A Case of You (Ire) (Hot Streak {Ire}) in the G1 Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan Mar. 26. The latter heads to next Saturday's G1 Platinum Jubilee S. on the final day of the Royal Ascot meeting.

The lone Grade I scorer for the under-appreciated Jimmy Creed, Casa Creed is out of an unraced daughter of four-time graded winner Wild Heart Dancing (Farma Way), the dam of MSPs Unbridled's Heart (Unbridled's Song) and Leopard Rock (Speightstown). Third dam Star of Wicklow was responsible for GISW Man From Wicklow (Turkoman). Achalaya is the dam of Jimmy Creed's 2-year-old full brother, a yearling by Omaha Beach and a filly by Horse of the Year Authentic foaled Apr. 15.

Golden Glider Works for Belmont

Golden Glider (Ghostzapper), most recently second in the GIII Peter Pan S., tuned up for Saturday's GI Belmont S. with a four-furlong work in :49.90 (33/84) at Belmont Park Sunday. NYRA clockers caught the colt, with exercise rider Kylie Wellington up, through a quarter-mile in :26.20 and a gallop-out in 1:02.80.

“I thought he worked really well. He settled early, which is what you want out of a Belmont horse, and flew home,” trainer Mark Casse said.

Casse won the 2019 Belmont with Sir Winston (Awesome Again), who also finished second in the Peter Pan heading into the Test of the Champion. The Hall of Fame trainer expects Golden Glider will have no trouble with the Belmont's 1 1/2-mile distance.

“I'm not worried about the mile and a half, it's just how long it's going to take him,” said Casse, with a laugh. “He's a one-paced type of horse, so I'm hoping he'll have a similar trip like Sir Winston. In his previous races, Sir Winston used to come from the clouds, but in the Belmont, Joel Rosario kept him close enough and I could see the same thing happening Saturday with Dylan [Davis].”

Also working Sunday ahead of Saturday's stakes-packed card at Belmont, Speaker's Corner (Street Sense) went four furlongs in :48.01 (5/117) over the training track ahead of an engagement in the GI Hill 'n' Dale Metropolitan H.

“I let him pick it up a little more,” trainer Bill Mott said. “He shaded :24 coming home today. He was off nice and I had him in :47 3/5. The gallop out was just normal. We let him finish up to the wire.”

Speaker's Corner, a Godolphin homebred, won the GIII Fred Hooper S. at Gulfstream in January, the GII Gulfstream Park Mile in March and is coming off a win in the Apr. 9 GI Carter H.

“We've had a nice schedule. We've got a good foundation and plenty of time to be fresh for this race, so hopefully it works out,” Mott said. “He seems to be doing well and we got all our works in and been fortunate enough that we haven't missed anything. We did what we wanted to do.”

Trainer Chad Brown sent out GI Resorts World Casino Manhattan S. hopeful Rockemperor (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) to work five furlongs in 1:01.80 (1/3) over the inner turf course at Belmont Sunday.

“He worked really good,” Brown said. “He likes Belmont quite a bit and the key with him is firm turf. If the turf is firm on Saturday, he will run.”

Rockemperor won the GI Joe Hirsch Turf Classic S. over the Belmont lawn last year.

Also working for the Manhattan, Gufo (Declaration of War) worked four furlongs in company in :49.60 (9/19) over the inner turf course at Belmont Sunday.

“Gufo worked great and is ready for the Manhattan,” trainer Christophe Clement said. “He tried very hard and ran very well in the Man o' War.”

Third in last year's Manhattan, Gufo is coming off a runner-up effort in the May 14 GI Man o'War S.

LNJ Foxwoods Re-Focuses Stable

The Roth family's LNJ Foxwoods announced plans to move its Southern California-based horses east and re-focus its racing stable on the East Coast, Canada and Kentucky circuits. A Sunday afternoon tweet from Jaime Roth read, “LNJ Foxwoods has made the difficult decision to take a break from having horses stabled year-round in Southern California. With our family based in New York and one of our advisors, Alex Solis, II of Solis/Litt, having relocated to Lexington, we would like to focus on the East Coast, Canada and Kentucky circuits at this time. Our horses in training in Southern California will be moved east to continue their careers under the care of Josie Carroll, Brad Cox, Bill Mott, Todd Pletcher, and Brendan Walsh.”

Roth continued, “We have thoroughly enjoyed our time in Southern California and celebrated many milestones there, including winning the GI Breeders' Cup F&M Sprint with Covfefe at Santa Anita. In particular, we would like to thank Richard Mandella and his team for their tireless work and dedication to our horses and all those in his care. Richard has done a terrific job for our stable and we have enjoyed so much success together.”

In the same tweet, Roth announced the retirement of the family's multiple graded stakes winner United (Giant's Causeway). Trained by Mandella, the 7-year-old gelding won the 2020 and 2021 renewals of the GII John Henry Turf Championship S., as well as the 2021 GII Eddie Read S. He was second in the 2019 GI Breeders' Cup Turf. On the board in 15 of 22 starts, United won 10 times and earned $1,813,549.

“He will remain a part of the LNJ family and is being retired as our riding horse in Kentucky, where we hope he will enjoy his second career just as much as his first,” Roth tweeted.LNJ
