Lady Mystify Gets First Graded Stakes Win In Remington Park Oaks

Lady Mystify made the trip from California to Oklahoma a winning one with a pace-stalking performance in the Grade 3 Remington Park Oaks at the Oklahoma City, Okla., track.

In her only previous try at graded stakes company, Lady Mystify, trained by Peter Eurton, was fifth in the Grade 3 Torrey Pines at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in Del Mar, Calif. in late August. In the G3 Oaks, facing a field that included G3 Fantasy Stakes winner Pauline's Pearl and Cathryn Sophia Stakes winner Lovely Ride, Lady Mystify broke cleanly, jockey Flavien Prat putting her third behind front-runner My Girl Red early in the 1 1/16-mile stakes.

Around the far turn, Prat pulled his filly even with My Girl Red as Ricardo Santana, Jr. moved Pauline's Pearl on the outside of horses to start her bid in the stretch. At the top of the lane, Lady Mystify took over the lead as Pauline's Pearl tried to challenge on her outside. The Eurton trainee was too much for Pauline's Pearl, drawing away to win by three lengths. Amendment Nineteen was third and Bobbin Tail fourth.

Lady Mystify paid $14.00, $5.00, and $2.80. Pauline's Pearl paid $2.80 and $2.10. Amendment Nineteen paid $2.10.

Bred in Kentucky by Scott Dilworth and Evan Dilworth, Lady Mystify is by Bernardini out of the Unbridled's Song mare J. Quirk. She is a 3-year-old filly owned by Exline-Border Racing LLC, SAF Racing, and Richard Hausman. Lady Mystify was purchased by Exline-Border Racing from consigner Niall Brennan Stables for $325,000 at the 2020 Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. With her win in the G3 Remington Park Oaks, Lady Mystify has three wins in five starts in 2021, for a lifetime record of 6-3-1-1 and career earnings of $217,520.

Pioneerof the Nile Filly Impressive at Ellis

6th-Ellis, $51,000, Msw, 8-20, 2yo, f, 6 1/2f, 1:15.87, ft, 4 1/2 lengths.
MATAREYA (f, 2, Pioneerof the Nile–Innovative Idea {GSW, $229,343}, by Bernardini), whose dam's signature win came in the 2016 GIII Groupie Doll S. here, was coupled in the wagering at 9-5 with Brendan Walsh-trained fellow Godolphin homebred Dreamalot (Ghostzapper). Straight to the front, the bay doled out splits of :22.09 and :45.07 and turned for home in command. Dreamalot came with a fence run and briefly looked like she'd give Matareya a challenge, but the front-runner shut the door and galloped home under wraps to win with promise. Dreamalot held second to complete the one-two finish not only for her owner/breeder but for late broodmare sire Bernardini. The winner's second dam is MGSW/GISP Golden Velvet (Seeking the Gold) and her third dam is MGSW Caress (Storm Cat). This is the family of Bernstein and Sky Mesa as well as a current Godolphin standout in the Walsh pupil Maxfield (Street Sense), who is also out of a Bernardini mare. Lady Kate Seeks A Second Groupie Doll Win At Ellis Park

Anderson Stables' Lady Kate, the 2020 RUNHAPPY Group Doll winner, is the only return winner from last year's five dirt stakes on the RUNHAPPY Ellis Park Derby Day card at Ellis Park in Henderson, Ky. Then again, she's the only who could, with the other four stakes limited to either 2-year-olds or 3-year-olds.

Lady Kate also is seeking to become the first two-time winner of the stakes, which dates to 1987. Even Groupie Doll, the two-time Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint and champion female sprinter, only won the stakes now named for her once, that coming in 2011 as a 3-year-old. Groupie Doll also was third in 2013 en route to her second championship.

The 5-year-old Lady Kate, with Adam Beschizza to ride, goes up against familiar faces in last year's Groupie Doll runner-up New Roo and third-place Istan Council.

“She's doing well,” trainer Eddie Kenneally said of Lady Kate, who recently shipped over from his Keeneland barn. “She seems to like it here, and she was successful in the race last year and got it done first time running on this track. She's been here a few days and settled in nicely. She's been doing her breezes at Keeneland. It's a loaded race, quite a few runners in there. But I think it was a good big field here last year as well.”

After the Groupie Doll, Lady Kate finished second to champion Monomoy Girl in Churchill Downs' delayed Grade 1 La Troienne. She tired to 10th after pushing the pace in the Breeders' Cup Distaff, then in her only start this year was fifth in Aqueduct's Grade 3 Distaff Handicap in April.

“She seems to like Ellis and Churchill,” Kenneally said. “So hopefully we can repeat something like we did last year with her. But she's in great shape. She didn't have a prep for the race this year. She hasn't run since the first week of April. So she's coming in fresh with no prep. That's the only concern: She doesn't have a race under her belt coming in against horses that are fit and racing.”

That Grade 1-placing was huge for Lady Kate, a daughter of champion Bernardini who cost $485,000 as a yearling.

“For a filly with a pedigree like her it enhances her value tremendously to be placed at all in a G1,” Kenneally said. “It stamps her value going forward. So it means a lot for those kinds of fillies. She was a high-dollar yearling and thankfully it's turned out.

Multiple Graded Stakes Winner Owendale Dies After Bout With Colic

Multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire Owendale has died after a bout with colic, trainer Brad Cox told bloodhorse.com on Wednesday.

The 5-year-old son of Into Mischief earned $1,538,435 on the track, with a record of six wins, five seconds, and four thirds from 23 career starts. He most recently finished fourth in the G2 Oaklawn Handicap on April 17.

Campaigned by Rupp Racing after commanding $200,000 as a yearling at the Keeneland September sale, Owendale earned Grade 1 placings when finishing third in the 2019 Preakness, second in the 2019 Clark, and third in the 2020 Clark. His graded stakes wins came in the G3 Lexington (2019), the G3 Ohio Derby (2019), and the G3 Oklahoma Derby (2019).

Bred by Stonestreet, Owendale is out of the unraced Bernardini mare Aspen Light, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Great Hunter.
