Jockeys and Jeans to Hold Fundraiser at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas

Jockeys and Jeans is set to host its ninth annual fundraiser at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Saturday, June 24 at 7 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to mix and mingle with a host of Hall of Fame Jockeys, enjoy a seated dinner, and bid on unique racing memorabilia and other valuable prizes in both a silent and live auction.

“This year's event represents an historic step in our evolution,” said Jockeys and Jeans President Barry Pearl. “We hope to set a record for funds raised at a horse racing related charity event. This will also be our first event not held at a thoroughbred track, but all the folks at Caesars Palace are experts at hosting events and are going full tilt boogie to make sure ours is a huge success.”

He continued, “We will also soon announce our a 'Man of the Year.' It will be a person known worldwide to bettors and horsemen alike and one whose speech will draw increased interest in the cause for safety in our sport as well as helping racing's fallen heroes.”

The inaugural event raised $23,000 and in the seven subsequent events and yearly stallion season sales, Jockeys and Jeans has raised a total of $2.6 million. All event proceeds go to the PDJF, a charity that pays a $1,000 monthly stipend to some 60 former jockeys who suffered career ending injuries.

Jockeys And Jeans Stallion Season Sale Reports Gains Over 2022 Totals

The seventh annual sale of stallion breeding seasons–which ended Jan. 25 to benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund–raised $112,050 compared to $72,500 in 2022. The sale marked revenue increases in both the Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse stallion seasons with increases more pronounced in the Quarter Horse breeding industry, accounting for $71,500 of the total proceeds.

The seasons were donated by breeders in six states, including several leading farms in Central Kentucky. To date, the sale has raised over $600,000 for the PDJF.

“The season donors as well as the buyers in both racing industries upped their game this year to help those former jockeys who gave a big part of lives to this sport and we thank them all,” said Jockeys and Jeans President Barry Pearl.

Jockeys and Jeans, founded in late 2014 by five former jockeys, has raised over $2.7 million for the PDJF through an annual fund-raising event and stallion season sale.

Jockeys and Jeans Fundraiser Set for January 10

An auction of no-guarantee Thoroughbred seasons to benefit Jockeys and Jeans will begin on Starquine.com Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023 at 9 a.m. ET, and will run through Thursday, Jan. 12 at 9 p.m. The seasons will be previewed starting Jan. 9. Bidding on Quarter Horse seasons begins Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., and ends Thursday, Jan. 26 at 9:00 pm.

This is the only stallion season auction that brings together Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse Stallions in one sale, and one in which all proceeds go to help former jockeys who suffered catastrophic, career-ending injuries.

The sale features stallions from Kentucky, Florida, New York, California, Texas, and other states. Since the all-volunteer Jockeys and Jeans was founded by a group of former jockeys in late 2014, it has raised $2.6 million for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, including over a half million through the sales of donated stallion seasons.

“Sadly, career-ending injuries happen to jockeys in both industries and this is a great example of the two coming together in a meaningful way to provide funding for those whose lives changed forever while riding races in a sport we all know and love,” said Jockeys and Jeans President Barry Pearl.

The PDJF pays a monthly stipend of $1,000 to 60 riders from both industries who have suffered catastrophic career-ending injuries. Two-thirds of them are quadra- or paraplegics. “They gave a big part of their lives to a sport that made me and many others very successful,” said retired Quarter Horse jockey G.R. Carter. “And all of us owe it to them to give something back.”

Pearl noted today's increased cost of living has hit hard those on a fixed income, which includes nearly all PDJF beneficiaries. “It is no exaggeration to say that for many disabled former jockeys, that $1,000 each month helps keep a roof over their heads and puts food on their tables. But we are thankful so many generous people in both segments of horse racing have stepped up to prove that this is a single community, and one that genuinely cares.”
