Frankel’s Frankly Darling Wins the Ribblesdale

Having been narrowly denied in the Queen Anne, Frankie was quick to get off the mark at Royal Ascot 2020 on Anthony Oppenheimer’s Frankly Darling (GB) (Frankel {GB}) in the G2 Ribblesdale S. Free early racing in second, the 11-8 favourite had plenty in reserve when sent on with two furlongs remaining and was being eased late to record an impressive two-length success with the Ballydoyle pair Ennistymon (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Passion (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) second and third. John Gosden was enjoying a landmark 50th Royal winner, with Dettori now on 68.

Frankel’s Franconia Impresses In Newbury Oaks Trial

John Gosden again has a now-customary clutch of high-class prospects among his 3-year-old fillies in 2020 and Juddmonte’s Franconia (GB) (Frankel {GB}) was the latest to join in when winning Saturdays Listed Abingdon Fillies’ S. at Newbury in the style of a ready-made Oaks contender. Sent off the 7-4 favourite despite having only finished second in a seven-furlong novice at Chelmsford in November, the homebred travelled strongly in a share of third off the honest pace and when sent to the front passing the two-furlong pole by Frankie Dettori drew away to beat TDN Rising Star Cabaletta (GB) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) by 3 3/4 lengths, with Chamade (GB) (Sepoy {Aus}) 1 3/4 lengths behind in third.

Frankel’s Seventh Kingdom A New Rising Star at Doncaster

It took a while for the penny to drop, but when it did Prince Faisal’s homebred Seventh Kingdom (GB) (Frankel {GB}) was a class above going a shade over seven furlongs in Saturday’s Betway Novice S. at Doncaster, earning a TDN Rising Star tag with a daylight triumph. He was caught napping at the break, but recovered to track the leaders in third after the initial strides. Niggled along to keep his mind on the task at hand from halfway, the well-backed 6-5 favourite swooped for control passing the quarter-mile marker and lengthened further clear of toiling rivals in the closing stages to outclass Longlai (Fr) (Shalaa {Ire}) by a geared-down four lengths in taking fashion.

Kingman’s Lord Campari Powers to TDN Rising Stardom

Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum’s 350,000gns Tattersalls October Book 1 yearling Lord Campari (Ire) (Kingman {GB}) ran sixth behind the ‘TDN Rising Star’ performance of Palace Pier (GB) (Kingman {GN}) over seven furlongs in his Aug. 30 debut at Sandown and exploded onto the scene with a Rising Star of his own when upped to one mile in division one of Saturday’s It’s Not Rocket Science With MansionBet Novice S. at Newbury. The 15-8 second favourite was sharply into stride and on the front end from the outset. In command on the bridle fro the most part, the repsonse was immediate when shaken up approacing the final furlong and he bounded clear in taking fashion to easily account for previous winner Tsar (GB) (Kingman {GB}) by an impressive 4 3/4 lengths.

“He jumped on my foot when I was saddling him, so he has redeemed himself well and the win has made me feel better,” revealed in-form trainer Roger Varian. “We liked him last year, but he is a big, raw horse. He travelled nicely and quickened well and it was a nice seasonal debut. We will see how he is in the morning then take it from there.”

Lord Campari, half-brother to an unraced 2-year-old filly by The Gurkha (Ire), becomes the second scorer from four runners for Listed Boadicea Fillies’ S. winner Blanche Dubawi (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), herself the leading performer out of G3 World Trophy victrix Dixie Belle (GB) (Diktat {GB}). The latter is herself the leading performer out of an unraced daughter of the dual stakes-placed Mareha (Ire) (Cadeaux Genereux {GB}), who in turn is a half-sister to G2 Futurity S. runner-up Chapel Crescent (Ire) (College Chapel {GB}).
