King George Demolition By Enable

Ascot’s match race failed to materialise on Saturday as Khalid Abdullah’s epoch-defining Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) brushed aside the Ballydoyle duo with an ease rarely seen to make history as the first to win three renewals of the G1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Qipco S. At her exuberant best with Frankie Dettori at pains to contain her from the outset, she sauntered around behind Sovereign (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and was several lengths off last year’s G1 Irish Derby hero in the back straight but her rider’s body language said it all. Allowing the Italian a lingering look around as she took control passing two out, the 4-9 favourite needed no encouragement to gallop to a 5 1/2-length success from the long-time leader, with Japan (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) a disappointing last of the trio.

Kingman’s Persian King Back To Winning Ways In the Muguet

Upset on his return when second in the Listed Prix de Montretout over a mile at Chantilly June 10, Godolphin and Ballymore Thoroughbred Ltd’s Persian King (Ire) (Kingman {GB}) was back in shape and on track in Sunday’s G2 Prix du Muguet at Saint-Cloud. Taken straight to the lead by Pierre-Charles Boudot, last year’s G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains hero was threatened and briefly headed by the G3 Prix Bertrand du Breuil winner Pretreville (Fr) (Acclamation {GB}) passing two out. Quickly regaining the advantage, the 3-5 favourite finished full of running to beat that rival by 1 1/4 lengths, with 3/4 of a length back to Skalleti (Fr) (Kendargent {Fr}) in third.

“I knew after his last race that he would come on a lot for it and that’s exactly what happened,” Boudot said. “He was very relaxed in front and when they made their move and he was slightly outpaced but then he quickened and showed a very nice action. I still had something left at the end, he was far from finished so that’s a very good sign and also we know he’ll go a bit further.” Making his first appearance since finishing runner-up in the G1 Prix du Jockey Club when caught out in the Montretout, the imposing Persian King can now go back to the top level after two sharpeners. That could come in the G1 Prix d’Ispahan at Chantilly July 19 according to Boudot. “I think his next target is the Prix d’Ispahan and I am sure that another furlong will be okay for him,” he added.

Persian King’s dam Pretty Please (Ire) (Dylan Thomas {Ire}) is a three-parts sister to the G1 Prix Ganay hero Planteur (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) and a half to the dual listed winner Pilote d’Essai (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}). The third dam Palmeraie (Lear Fan) is kin to three black-type winners, most notably the GII Long Island H. heroine Peinture Bleue (Alydar) who later produced the G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and G1 Prix du Jockey Club hero and leading sire Peintre Celebre.

TDN Rising Star Highest Ground Back With a Bang

The Niarchos Family’s homebred Highest Ground (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), who bounded to TDN Rising Stardom after enduring a bloopers moment at the break in his Sept. 23 debut over seven furlongs at Leicester, faced fellow ‘TDN Rising Star’ and Listed Newmarket S. third Waldkonig (GB) (Kingman {GB}) upped to an extended 10 furlongs for his seasonal return in Wednesday’s Racecourse Live Streams On Racing TV Novice S. at Haydock. The homebred bay, from a family featuring GI Shoemaker Breeders’ Cup Mile runner-up and MGSW sire King of Happiness (Spinning World), maintained his perfect record with an impressive 2 1/2-length success. Starting as the 13-8 second favourite and vocal in the preliminaries, Highest Ground did not repeat his debut mishap and was away on terms this time, stalking the leading duo in a patient third initially. Improving into second before halfway, he joined the pacesetting Waldkonig with three furlongs remaining and stayed on strongly under mainly whipless coaxing inside the final quarter mile to win going away from that rival at the line.

Juddmonte New Sponsor of Irish Oaks

Juddmonte will sponsor the G1 Irish Oaks for the next three years, The Curragh announced via Horse Racing Ireland on Wednesday. The 2020 edition is slated for Saturday, July 18. The distinctive pink, green and white silks have been first past the post three times in the fillies’ Classic-Wemyss Bight (GB) (Dancing Brave) in 1993, Bolas (GB) (Unfuwain) in 1994 and Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) took the 2017 edition. In 2020, Prince Khalid Abdullah’s operation will be represented by homebred fillies G1 bet365 Fillies’ Mile victress Quadrilateral (GB) (Frankel {GB}) and Pocket Square (GB) (Night of Thunder {Ire}). Both of Aidan O’Brien’s 1000 Guineas winners–Love (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the English and Peaceful (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the Irish equivalent–are also set to line up.
