Arqana Releases October Yearling Sale Catalogue

Arqana has released a catalogue of 752 lots for its October Yearling Sale from Oct. 18 to 22 in Deauville. Among the highlights on paper are a Roaring Lion colt out of dual Classic and triple Group 1 winner Golden Lilac (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) (lot 10); a colt from the first crop of champion sprinter Harry Angel (Ire) who is a half-brother to two stakes winners, including this year's G3 Prix de Psyche victress Penja (Fr) (Camelot {GB}) (lot 30); a Galileo (Ire) colt out of a full-sister to Zoffany (Ire) (lot 39); a Galileo (Ire) half-brother to G1 Eclipse S. victor Mukhadram (GB) (Shamardal) (lot 55); a Dubawi (Ire) half-sister to G1 Prix Jean Prat scorer Intellogent (Ire) (Intello {Ger}) (lot 77); a half-sister by Recorder (GB) to G1 British Champions Fillies & Mares S. and G1 Prix de Royallieu winner Wonderful Tonight (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}) (lot 108); a Shalaa (Ire) half-brother to G2 Prix Greffulhe winner Gold Trip (Fr) (Outstrip {GB}) (lot 112); a Lope De Vega (Ire) filly out of Group 3 winner and stakes producer Via Milano (Ire) (Singspiel {Ire}), whose descendants also include G1 Hong Kong Mile scorer Admire Mars (Jpn) (Daiwa Major {Jpn}) (lot 160); a Kingman (GB) half-sister to this year's listed-winning 2-year-old New Science (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) (lot 177); a full-brother to dual Grade I winner A Raving Beauty (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) (lot 183); a full-brother to Group 3 winner and multiple Group 1-placed Lope Y Fernandez (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) (lot 205); and a Kingman (GB) colt who is the first foal out of the Listed Dick Hern S. and Listed Coral Distaff third Dancing Breeze (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}) (lot 224).

Graduates of the Arqana October Yearling Sale will be looking to follow in the footsteps of prior graduates like last month's G1 Prix Jean Romanet one-two Grand Glory (Ire) (Olympic Glory {Ire}) and Audarya (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), the latter of which won last year's Romanet and G1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf. The evergreen Lord Glitters (Fr) (Whipper) is an Arqana October graduate, and he added the G1 Jebel Hatta and G2 Singspiel S. in Dubai earlier this year, while on the opposite end of the spectrum exciting 2-year-old Armor (GB) (No Nay Never), winner of the G3 Molecomb S. in July and entered in Friday's G2 Flying Childers S. at Doncaster, also emanated from this sale.

Breeders’ Cup Winner Audarya ‘In Really Good Form’ Ahead Of Nassau Stakes

It is 17 years since James Fanshawe's Soviet Song's came out on top in a thrilling finish in the Sussex Stakes, and the Newmarket handler is hoping that his star mare, Breeders' Cup winner Audarya can herself scale the heights and claim Group 1 glory at the Qatar Goodwood Festival.

The daughter of Wootton Basset made an excellent seasonal reappearance at Royal Ascot when just failing to reel in Love in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, and her trainer is delighted with her preparation for the Nassau Stakes, a 1 1/4-mile British Champions Series contest next Thursday, July 29.

Fanshawe, speaking from his Pegasus Stables in Newmarket on Monday morning, said:

“Audarya seems in really good form. We've had the Qatar Nassau Stakes in mind for a while and she's been training well since Ascot. You never quite know how fit they are after such a long gap between races, but she put in a good performance and we've been steering her towards this race ever since Ascot.”

Fanshawe is hopeful that Audarya will come on for that reappearance behind Love.

“The handicapper kept her rating at 117 after the Prince Of Wales's Stakes but I felt it was a really good performance. I hope she can improve again. It shows how far she's come, given that she started off in a Group 1 this year. Last year, her first win of the season came on her third start when winning a handicap off 99 on the 2nd August at Newcastle, so this season already looks very different.

An undoubted strength of Audarya is her versatility, with Fanshawe very relaxed by both the undulations at Goodwood and the ground.

“She won her Group 1s at Deauville and Keeneland which are both flat tracks, but she did win a handicap at Goodwood over 1-mile as a three-year-old where she proved she can handle the track. In terms of ground, she has run on everything! It was very testing when she won the Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville and they broke the track record on firm ground when she won the Filly and Mare Turf at Keeneland, she's very versatile.”

Talented 3-year-old fillies, including Snow Lantern, Snowfall and Santa Barbara, are all entered into the Qatar Nassau Stakes and if any of them turn, up will receive 9lbs from Audarya.

Fanshawe said: “I was having a look at the record of 3-year-olds in the race which is very good – five of the last six winners have been three. They get 9lbs from the older fillies and mares which is a lot of weight, but it's the same as at Ascot and we go there with a filly who is in good form and hopefully we can overcome that.”

Audarya has had five different jockeys in her 14 career starts but Fanshawe is hoping to retain the services of William Buick who rode her at Royal Ascot.

“Circumstances have meant that we've had a few different jockeys ride her, but William (Buick) seemed to get on well with her in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes and hopefully he can ride her next Thursday.”

One other significant James Fanshawe runner at the Qatar Goodwood Festival could come in the shape of Fresh, who finished secondin the Wokingham Handicap on the final day of Royal Ascot. The 4-year-old will head to the Unibet Stewards' Cup on Saturday, July 31, so long as the ground isn't too fast.

Speaking about the son of Bated Breath, Fanshawe said: “Fresh is in really good form, he worked nicely on Saturday. One proviso with him is that he needs to have some ease in the ground, he's just a better horse with give in the ground. Hopefully we'll get plenty of rain after the Nassau Stakes – it can chuck it down as much as it likes on Friday before the Stewards' Cup!”

Love, Audarya May Face Off Again In July 29 Nassau Stakes

Love and Audarya could lock horns again in the 10-furlong G1 Qatar Nassau Stakes (29 entries) for fillies and mares on Thursday, July 29.

The duo both ran mighty races on their seasonal returns to finish first and second against the boys in the G1 Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot, with Love coming out on top by three-parts of a length.

Audarya was having her first start since providing trainer James Fanshawe with a memorable first Breeders' Cup success in the G1 Filly & Mare Turf at Keeneland in November. The daughter of Wootton Basset also captured the G1 Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville in August.

Fanshawe said: “Audarya has only been doing steady canters since Royal Ascot, but she seems very well.

“The Prince Of Wales's Stakes was her first run of the year, so you are never totally sure what to expect, and the same applied to Love obviously, but I was just really pleased with her performance and the way she has come out of the race.

“She has a couple of other entries beforehand, but the Qatar Nassau Stakes is a really nice race to aim for. Thanks to the support of Qatar, the prize money is fantastic, and it usually throws up a good clash between the three-year-olds and the older fillies and mares.”

Love's trainer Aidan O'Brien has a formidable eight-strong team in total, with Love joined by Classic winners Snowfall, Mother Earth, Joan Of Arc and Empress Josephine.

Snow Lantern (Richard Hannon) could tackle a mile and a quarter for the first time following her encouraging second in the G1 Coronation Stakes, as could G1 Lockinge Stakes runner-up Lady Bowthorpe (William Jarvis).

Ebaiyra (Alain de Royer-Dupre) is the sole French-trained entry following a decisive success in the G2 Prix Corrida at Saint-Cloud in May.

The Qatar Nassau Stakes is part of the British Champions Series.

Love Shows Her Heart In Prince Of Wales’s Stakes

Love was all heart when making all under jockey Ryan Moore in the G1 Prince Of Wales's Stakes, the highlight on day two of Royal Ascot. The victory earned her an expenses-paid berth to the Breeders' Cup Turf this fall at Del Mar.

Racing for the first time in her 4-year-old campaign, much was expected of the 11/10 favorite following victories in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas, Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks last season. Ridden with confidence by Moore – who was recording a 63rd Royal Ascot win – Love kept finding more to repel all challengers and run out a comfortable three-quarter length winner from 2020 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf winner Audarya (10/1).

Love provided trainer Aidan O'Brien with a 75th Royal Ascot success, and owners Coolmore were celebrating a fourth win in this prestigious ten-furlong contest, following Highland Reel, So You Think and Duke Of Marmalade.

O'Brien said: “Obviously this was her first run of the year and we had to be very cautious. We knew that she was going to come on a lot from the run and Ryan gave her a beautiful ride.

“We'd obviously would have preferred to have a run, but that's her first time over a mile and a quarter and we were over the moon with her.

“She's very genuine, very brave. Ryan was trying to balance it, and he knew that Armory was going to be very fancied, so he was just trying to do enough, and not to do too much. He was trying to do the right thing for Love. We are over the moon.

“We knew that her head was out and down and looking at Ryan's body language, he hadn't gone for everything. He was trying to let her win and give her as easy time as he could.

“She will come on a lot [for that]. Obviously, we had prepared her two or three times and stopped and started again, which is far from ideal, but I'm delighted that the lads decided to do this – to wait until the ground came right. It was a lovely place to start, Royal Ascot – there's nowhere better.”

Regarding her next target, he added: “I think everything is open to her, the King George, the Eclipse, whatever the lads decide and whatever they want to do.”

Moore said: “It is great to have Love back. She was a wonderful filly at three, and it's a long time since she ran in the Yorkshire Oaks. That is her first run since last August and she's beaten a Breeders' Cup winner.

“It was great to get her back today and I'm sure she will come on for the run. She's a very honest filly with a lot of ability and hopefully she will be better as the year goes on.”

James Fanshawe said of the second: “I am delighted with Audarya; it's her first run of the season, as it is for Love, and we weren't sure how she'd get on. She's proved she's progressed again from last year and I'm thrilled with her. Actually William [Buick] said the pace wasn't that strong; I don't know if that made any difference.

“I'm not sure what's next – I'll go home and think about it. You'd say keep her against her own sex, but she's been beaten by her own sex, but whether we go for the Romanet or the Nassau or something like that, I'm not sure.”
