Woman Reunites With Missing Horse After Eight Years

Kayla Pevytoe of Magnolia, Texas, had been searching for her childhood horse, “Dixie,” for over eight years. Kayla lost track of her horse in 2013, when the mare was sold without her knowledge. Kayla tried to locate the mare using social media posts on her own pages and in other equine groups, and searched on horse sale sites and auction websites to no avail.

In 2021, people responding to Pevytoe's Facebook post encouraged her to contact NetPosse, also called Stolen Horse International. Pevytoe filed a “Searching for Horse” report on the NetPosse website. The website generated a flyer and volunteers issued a NetPosse Alert, similar to an Amber Alert for humans. The alert was posted on social media platforms, included in the organization's e-newsletter and given to network partners.

This time, the plea for information on Dixie was seen by the right person, and one of Dixie's former owners let Kayla know she had sold the mare six months prior to seeing the alert.

Pevytoe updated her report and the information was again disseminated on multiple platforms. Two days after the update went out, she got a call from a woman who thought her friend might have bought Dixie from an auction. The new owners then reached out to Pevytoe and agreed to sell the mare back to her former owner.

Pevytoe and her husband drove nearly nine hours to pick up the beloved mare, who was very thin. Dixie seemed to remember her old owner, perking up at her name.

Pevytoe believes the mare had moved at least six times in nearly eight years.

Thoroughbred Charities Of America Stallion Season Auction Open For Bidding

The 31^st annual Thoroughbred Charities of America Stallion Season Auction is open for bidding. The auction is the largest annual fundraiser for the organization.

Bidding on over 200 stallion seasons from 14 states began today on Starquine.com and will continue through Friday, Jan. 8 with staggered ending times beginning at 4:30 p.m. EST. Seasons available in the online auction include Gun Runner, Ghostzapper, Palace Malice, Liam's Map, More Than Ready, Speightstown, and many more. View all seasons here.

In addition to the online auction, a live auction of select seasons will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 12 in the Keeneland Sales Pavilion after the close of book one, session two of the January sale. Select seasons to Blame, Constitution, Curlin, Game Winner, Laoban, Nyquist (with a 2022 breed back), and Quality Road will be offered. To bid on select seasons, bidders or their authorized agents may bid in person at Keeneland, or they may contact TCA by emailing ecrady@tca.org or calling (859) 276-4989 to arrange telephone or online bidding.

A silent auction of non-season items including halters worn by Enable and Tapit, a John Deere X330 lawn tractor, equine air transportation aboard a Tex Sutton flight, vanning from Sallee and Brook Ledge is also currently underway. Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) was formed in 1990 to raise and distribute funds to charities in the Thoroughbred industry that provide a better life for Thoroughbreds, both during and after their racing careers, by supporting qualified repurposing and retirement organizations and by helping the people who care for them. Jockeys and Jeans Great American Stallion Season Sale to Benefit PDJF

The Jockeys and Jeans Great American Stallion Season Sale will once again benefit the PDJF and this year will offer both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse stallions.

The auction begins Jan. 29 at 9 a.m. and ends Feb. 1 at 5 p.m on Starquine.com. A season preview will be available Jan. 28. All seasons sold, their buyers and their prices are private. All seasons are non-guaranteed and donors have the option of including a breed-back the following year if the buyer’s mare does not get in foal on first cover.

Florida Thoroughbred Charities Auction Ends Nov. 8

Florida Thoroughbred Charities (FTC), the charitable arm of the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association (FTBOA), has kicked off an online auction to benefit Thoroughbred retirement and youth education programs. Sponsored by FTBOA, as well as Horse Capital Television, Florida Equine Communications, and Kathleen O’Connell Racing Stables, the FTC auction has 57 items already up for bid and continues to add more.

Featured items include halters worn by Justify, Speightstown, Wildcat Heir, and the 2019 filly out of Songbird by Arrogate. Original art pieces, racing memorabilia–including 1961 and 1978 Kentucky Derby programs for Carry Back and Affirmed, respectively–and much more, including one-of-a-kind experiences, can be found in the auction.

FTC has raised more than $3.5 million for charity since 1990. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the charity was unable to host its annual fundraisers at the FTBOA Gala and FTC charity golf tournament.
