$447,361 In Pick 5 Jackpot For Mandatory Payout Monday At Assiniboia Downs

The $447,361.22 carryover for the Assiniboia Downs Jackpot Pick 5 pool will be paid out on Monday, July 6.

“The stage is set now for the mandatory payout event,” said Darren Dunn, CEO of the Winnipeg, Canada, track.  “Assiniboia Downs has the highest carryover for any pool in North America right now and we are paying it all out on Monday.”

The single winner Jackpot Pick 5 pool has not been won after 18 consecutive racing programs and it is scheduled for a mandatory payout day. A mandatory payout day requires that the entire jackpot and the current day's pool must be paid out to the winners that day. These events draw substantially more wagering as everyone is trying to win their share of the jackpot bonus.

“Players have been chasing the jackpot for weeks now and have been eager to claim a share of that carryover,” said Dunn.  “They know the wagering will be huge on that day, which just adds to the excitement.  This will most likely be a record setting day.”

Estimations for the pool size vary widely but it could possibly exceed $1,000,000 for that one pool.

The Jackpot Pick 5 bet requires the selection of the winners of the last 5 races in the program.  The cost of a ticket is only 20 cents.

Assiniboia Downs racing product is available throughout North America and it is now being broadcast internationally to places such as Australia and Europe.

The Downs also has a Jackpot Hi-5 bet with a carryover now of $63,000. This pool requires the correct selection of the first 5 finishers of the last race of every racing program.

Racing continues every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday through September 15 at 7:30 pm (Central Time).

Assiniboia Filly’s Win Streak Halted

Hidden Grace (Going Commando), a Manitoba-bred who had won nine consecutive stakes to start her career, got edged out by her own stablemate in a quest for a perfect 10-for-10 race record in Wednesday night’s $25,000 Canada Day S. at Assiniboia Downs.

Miss Imperial (Maclean’s Music), off as the as the .55-1 favorite, battled through a three-way fight for the lead and then had enough left to hold off the onrushing 1.35-1 Hidden Grace to post a one-length win. The four remaining entrants were scattered nine lengths behind the top two in the 7 1/2-furlong open stakes.

Both 4-year-old fillies are trained by Murray Duncan, but they do not share similar career paths.

Hidden Grace is owned and was bred by Cam Ziprick, Charles Fouillard and Barry Arnason. She has raced exclusively in Manitoba (nine starts) and Alberta (one start), with five of her nine victories coming against provincial-bred or sales-restricted company.

Hidden Grace’s breeder and owner partnerships are comprised of some of the same people who bred and raced fellow Manitoba-bred Escape Clause (Going Commando). That mare retired last autumn with 20 wins after emerging from Assiniboia to win stakes at Del Mar and Santa Anita before losing only by a nose to Midnight Bisou (Midnight Lute) in the 2019 GI Apple Blossom H. at Oaklawn.

Miss Imperial, owned in partnership by her trainer and the Estate of Garylle B. Stewart, now sports a 9-for-19 record after starting her career on the New York, Fair Grounds, and Oaklawn circuits. Duncan claimed her at Oaklawn Apr. 11 for $25,000, and since shipping to Winnipeg, Miss Imperial has now won three straight open stakes.

9-For-9 Assiniboia Downs Filly Seeks Perfect 10 in Canada day S.

Hidden Grace (Going Commando), a 9-for-9 Manitoba-bred, will seek a perfect 10th straight stakes victory in her 4-year-old debut Wednesday night in the $25,000 Canada Day S. at Assiniboia Downs.

Hidden Grace has raced exclusively in Manitoba (eight starts) and Alberta (one start), with five of her nine stakes victories coming against provincial-bred or sales-restricted company. Essentially, she has wrapped up every single one of her wins by the eighth pole, having never been headed in the stretch.

Her breeder and owner partnerships are comprised of some of the same people who bred and raced the hard-trying overachiever Escape Clause (Going Commando). That mare retired last autumn with 20 wins and $866,100 in earnings after emerging from small-circuit racing in Canada to win 2018 stakes at Del Mar and Santa Anita before losing only by a nose to the powerful Midnight Bisou (Midnight Lute) in the 2019 GI Apple Blossom H. at Oaklawn.

Hidden Grace is owned and was bred by Cam Ziprick, Charles Fouillard and Barry Arnason. As a yearling, Ziprick consigned her to the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Manitoba Division) sale, then bought her right back for $11,919. This transaction made her eligible to compete in the stakes program for horses sold through that auction.

In addition to her provincial- and sales-restricted stakes dominance, Hidden Grace has also won four $30,000 open stakes at Assiniboia. She’s been off since October and will make her first start for a new trainer, Murray Duncan, after being previously trained by Michael Nault in 2019 and Don Schnell in 2018.

He main competition in Wednesday’s second race, which is a 7 1/2-furlong open stakes, will come in the form of Miss Imperial (Maclean’s Music), who is also conditioned by Duncan.

Miss Imperial sports an 8-for-18 record after stints in the barns of trainers Jason Servis, Joe Sharp, and Brad Cox on the New York, New Orleans, and Oaklawn circuits. She was claimed three times for decreasing prices between last August and this April ($50,000, $40,000, $25,000), and it was Duncan who most recently dropped a slip for her at Oaklawn Apr. 11. Since shipping to Winnipeg, Miss Imperial has wired two open sprint stakes.
