Arqana Releases Autumn Catalogues

Arqana has published the catalogues for its Autumn Sale, which will be held in two stages next month.

The first catalogue comprises 254 flat-bred yearlings which will go under the hammer on Nov. 14. This catalogue has been organized in partnership with Osarus, which opted to cancel its traditional September Yearling Sale in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and re-route its entries to this sale and Arqana’s October Yearling Sale.

Following a two-day break for inspections, 200 flat and National Hunt horses in training will be offered on Nov. 16. Eye-catching flat offerings include this year’s G3 Deutsches St Leger scorer Quian (Ger) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) (lot 424); and Aga Khan 3-year-olds Irshad (Fr) (Raven’s Pass) (lot 393) and Vardani (Fr) (Charm Spirit {Ire}) (lot 394).

The focus will switch entirely to the jumps on Nov. 17 and 18 with a day of stores and a day of National Hunt-bred yearlings.

Gregorian’s Plainchant Makes All in the Criterium

Plainchant (Fr) (Gregorian {Ire}), who registered a May 17 debut third tackling five furlongs at La Teste de Buch, broke through over six furlongs back there in June and followed up with a first black-type score there once more in the July 26 Listed Criterium du Bequet. Narrowly defeated over six in Deauville’s Aug. 22 G3 Prix du Calvados, she returned with a five-length triumph in Chantilly’s Sept. 18 G3 Prix Eclipse and returned to that Paris venue to make all for a career high in Saturday’s G2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte. The even-money favourite was sharply into stride and seized immediate control of the straight dash. Sent clear either side of the quarter-mile marker, she was not for catching thereafter and kept on well under mild coaxing in the closing stages to comfortably hold the late rally of Go Athletico (Fr) (Goken {Fr}) by 3/4-of-a-length. The pair were seven lengths clear of the remainder, headed by Kalahara (GB) (Frankel {GB}).

Plainchant, half-sister to a yearling filly by Reliable Man (GB), is the sixth of seven foals and one of three scorers out of a winning half-sister to three black-type performers, namely G3 Prix de Sandringham winner Laugh Out Loud (GB) (Clodovil {Ire}), Listed Pinnacle S. and Listed Chalice S. victress Suzi’s Decision (GB) (Act One {GB}) and G3 Glorious S. third Baghdad (Fr) (Frankel {GB}). Laugh Out Loud is herself the dam of GII San Marcos S. and G3 Gallinule S. winner Platinum Warrior (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), from a family featuring G1 Derby Italiano-winning sire White Muzzle (GB) (Dancing Brave).

Lena Goedde Wins Best Turned Out Horse Challenge at Arc Sale

Arqana has awarded Lena Goedde with first prize of €500 for the best turned out horse at last week’s The Arc Sale. Goedde looked after Virginia Joy (Ger) (Soldier Hollow {GB}) on behalf of Gestut Auenquelle. Laura Delage, who earned €350 as the runner-up, was responsible for Dick Whittington (Fr) (War Command) for Yann Barberot’s Stable, while Lea Winzenrieth came in third, collecting €150 for Hercule Point (Ire) (Network {Fr}).
All horses were inspected at the sale and a jury rated the quality of their presentation according to the following criteria:
• Availability: each horse must be visible at any time of the day.
• The quality of the presentation: the horse must stand and walk in a straight line with an energetic step.
• The care of the presentation: this criterion concerns both the horse and the person presenting it.

Arc Promise Initiative Earns Over €60,000 in Donations

The Arc Promise, a new fundraising initiative based on the “Breeders’ Cup Pledge, was launched by Au-Dela des Pistes ahead of Arc weeekend. After the results were tabulated, over €60,000 was raised by the connections of every runner that opted to donate a fraction of their earnings in the event of a win or place by their horse(s). The donations will go toward racehorses retired due to injury that need additional support before they can be retrained.

Ecurie des Monceaux donated 30% of its breeders’ premiums, which resulted in a donation of €24,300. Arqana donated €1,000 per winner of its sales graduates, good for €6,000. Other entities that contributed include the Aga Khan Studs, Godolphin SNC, Haras de la Gousserie, Al Asayl, Wertheimer et Frere, China Horse Club, and Ecurie Meiohas, as well as jockeys, jockey agents and trainers.
