Olympic Glory’s Grand Glory Untouchable in the Allez France

Haras de Hus's Grand Glory (GB) (Olympic Glory {Ire}), who registered a personal best in last term's G1 Prix Jean Romanet, ran second in the G1 Prix de l'Opera and fifth in November's G1 Japan Cup and had since realised the second-highest price at Arqana's December fixture when selling for €2.5-million. She went postward for Sunday's G3 Prix Allez France Longines coming back off a pipe-opening score in last month's Listed Prix Zarkava and justified odds-on favouritism with a powerful display in the 10-furlong test. The 1-2 chalk tracked the leaders from off the pace in fourth through halfway. Looming large off the home turn, she was shaken up to seize control passing the quarter-mile marker and powered clear of toiling rivals thereafter to easily outclass Zarkava second Burgarita (GB) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) by an impressive 3 1/2 lengths.

“That was perfect, just perfect,” beamed trainer Gianluca Bietolini. “She did everything right and she didn't have a hard race. It was a race with a proper pace and Cristian [Demuro] did right to position her in fourth behind the second favorite of Mr Fabre [Burgarita]. It was the perfect lead and, from the one pole, she extended herself beautifully. She is heavier than she was at the same time last year, she is still maturing and getting stronger. The G2 Prix Corrida is the next step, but we could have a other plans. Options could include the [G1] Prince of Wales's S. [at Royal Ascot], but she is not yet entered in that, or another race with the [G1] King George [VI & Queen Elizabeth S.] in mind. I shall have to see how she comes out of the race and will discuss matters with the owner and [racing manager] Anne Sophie Yo.”

Grand Glory, kin to last term's Listed Prix du Ranelagh winner Bois d'Argent (GB) (Toronado {Ire}), notched her sixth black-type win here and is the leading performer produced by a daughter of Listed Coupe des Pouliches runner-up Maria de la Luz (GB) (Machiavellian). Maria de la Luz, who also threw GII Canadian S. victrix Minakshi (Fr) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}), is a half-sister to the dual stakes-placed dam of G1 Crown Oaks heroine Arapaho Miss (Aus) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}). Arapaho Miss, in turn, is the dam of G1 VRC Oaks heroine Miami Bound (NZ) (Reliable Man {GB}). Grand Glory's third dam Light of Hope (Lyphard) is a full-sister to GSW sire Alzao (Lyphard) and hails from the family of Preakness S. hero and champion sire Tom Rolfe (Ribot {GB}).

The catalogue for the Arqana Breeze-Up Sale grew by seven more lots with the addition of wildcards on Friday. Slated for May 13, with the breezes to be held the day prior, the new recruits include: lot 146, a filly by Oasis Dream (GB) from the family of the Group 1-placed Titian Time (Red Ransom) from Yeomanstown Stud; Bloodstock Connection will send a colt by Siyouni (Fr) through the ring as lot 149, who is a half-brother to a pair of black-type horses; Glending Stables' lot 150, a Night of Thunder (Ire) half-brother to stakes winner Battalion (Ire) (Authorized {Ire}); Yeomanstown will also offer a colt by Lope de Vega (Ire) (lot 152) who is out of a half-sister to GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf hero Line of Duty (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}); lot 147, a son of Dabirsim (Fr) from Sherbourne Lodge; a colt by Zoffany (Ire) (lot 148) consigned by Mocklershill; and lot 151, a son of Sea The Moon (Ger) from the draft of Knockanglass Stables. Miramar Pounces Late For G3 Prix Sigy Triumph

Off the board in two prior starts at black-type level, Carlos and Yann Lerner trainee Miramar (GB) (Profitable {Ire}) lined out for Wednesday's 5 1/2-furlong G3 Prix Sigy at Chantilly coming back off an Apr. 4 conditions second over the track's six-furlong strip on seasonal return and she swooped late to snag a career high in ultimately snug fashion. Last term's Listed Prix Zeddaan fourth raced off the tempo in rear through halfway. Scrubbed along to close passing the quarter-mile pole, the 67-5 chance came under sterner urging thereafter and kept on relentlessly out wide to deny last term's G2 Flying Childers S. victor Caturra (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) by 3/4-of-a-length nearing the line.

“She was an easy Class 1 winner last year and we never had any doubt about her quality, but everything went wrong when we ran her in a Listed race on her last start of 2021,” revealed Yann Lerner. “We then gave her a long break off on the farm and decided to target this race when she returned to training as there are so few Group 3 races for 3-year-olds over this type of distance. She ran great on her first start [of the year], but we knew she needed the race and had improved a lot. She proved us right in very good style. Let's see how she comes out of this race before committing to any targets, but she will be kept in sprint races and we might be tempted by a race abroad in due course.”

Miramar, who hails from the family of stakes-winning matriarch La Meilleure (Ire) (Lord Gayle), is the fourth of six foals and one of three scorers from as many runners out of a winning full-sister to G3 Leopardstown 1000 Guineas Trial third What A Style (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}). The March-foaled bay is a half to Listed Silver Tankard S. third The Rosstafarian (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}), the hitherto unraced 2-year-old fill Harriet's Angel (GB) (Harry Angel {Ire}) and a yearling filly by Blue Point (Ire).

Lope de Vega’s New Science Strikes For Newmarket Success

Charlie Appleby trainee New Science (GB) (Lope de Vega {Ire}), who ran seventh in Royal Ascot's Listed Chesham S., followed up a first black-type win in July's Listed Pat Eddery S. with a fourth in ParisLongchamp's Sept. 5 G3 Prix La Rochette and lined up match fit for Tuesday's Listed bet365 European Free H. coming back off a third in Meydan's Feb. 4 Listed Jumeirah Classic. Godolphin's €260,000 Arqana Select yearling was steadied to race in fourth after the break and remained there through halfway. Looming large at the quarter-mile marker, he was shaken up for control approaching the final furlong and was ridden out on the climb to the line to assert by 1 1/4 lengths from G3 Horris Hill S. third Tacarib Bay (GB) (Night of Thunder {Ire}) for a second stakes triumph.

“We were disappointed in Meydan when he got beat, but we have been there before and were confident he would come forward and he has,” commented Charlie Appleby. “He is a set model and has got some good 2-year-old form which, thankfully, he has brought to the table this afternoon. I was pleased with his homework, Paul Eddery rides him at home, and I have to give credit to the team as he has very shallow feet and had very poor growth on them. He has been back here the last two weeks and we were confident that run in Dubai brought him forward coming into today.” Looking ahead to the possibility of skipping the track's G1 2000 Guineas at the beginning of next month, the trainer added, “I'm not going to be bold and say he will see out a mile as he has shown a lot of pace there. Personally, I think he is a tailor-made [Royal Ascot G3] Jersey horse.”

New Science is the fourth of five foals and one of two scorers produced by G2 Park Hill S. and G3 Lillie Langtry S. placegetter Alta Lilea (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), herself a half-sister to the dual stakes-placed Mistress Quickly (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) and Listed Feilden S. runner-up Fighter Boy (Ire) (Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}). The March-foaled bay is a half-brother to a 2-year-old filly by Kingman (GB).
